I think skinny people who have never been fat should shut up about who gets body shamed more permanently

The best way I can describe the difference is concern vs disgust. Now that i'm thin again people have made comments that make me uncomfortable but they aren't a reaction of disgust. The thin shaming is uncomfortable but the fat shaming is soul crushing. And you will NEVER forget the switch up from even people you assumed would never be judgmental like that

okay i'll address the screen.

i was at san jose, and i think the show had AMAZING visuals. the lights onstage and the flashing signs on the back wall were really good, fully contributing to the experience. the rainbow-ish lights during miku fiesta were especially great.

as for the screen... i think it was fine. it was big, and the vocaloids running back and forth never clipped offscreen or anything. it blended in with the stage overall fine. i was standing towards the front and in the middle, so i probably got the best angle, but the resolution was great and i could see everything. i do think the screen was intentional, given that sometimes a background was implemented - like luka had white writing behind her as she sang, which wouldn't have shown up on a transparent screen. so i don't think it was a last-minute change, and i don't think they're going to switch to a projection after coachella. (i don't know how much will change for europe.)

i do think a projection would have made the illusion more convincing. i had to actively convince myself that she was actually onstage performing, because mostly it felt like she was like... using zoom. though also the illusion was affected by how fucking tall the vocaloids are. like a full head taller than the human band members. and like, that's great for visibility, i'm not knocking the height at all, it just contributes to how it felt like a recording more than a live performance.

but even without the illusion, it was a fantastic experience. i loved every song that played. the crowd was high energy and very participatory. the live music was loud and incredible, without drowning out the lyrics. it was so SO much fun!!! seeing miku and everyone else perform was incredible, especially when surrounded by other people who also love them. honestly i think anyone trying to sell their tickets right now is overreacting. just go! who cares! you're gonna have a great time! i swear that miku expo was genuinely one of the best days of my entire life!!!!!

What I find really really compelling about Laios' special interest is this:

As a person who's special interest is dogs, I'll tell you right now that I fucking love them. I live in a city full of strays, and I actively go out of my way to pet, play with, and interact with them. It brings me a lot of joy and comfort to be able to be surrounded by puppies.

I will also be the first to tell you that, like it or not, dogs are animals - and animals, ultimately, can be unpredictable. They can be scared, they can be territorial, and they can be impulsive. And while I genuinely believe that there's no such thing as a bad dog or an angry dog - only a scared one - I also don't believe it makes a functional difference once a dog has bitten you what intentions it may have had.

Dogs are dangerous. I've seen people get bitten, I've been bitten, I've had close calls, some of which were my own fault and others which were not.

And Laios reflects this so beautifully, especially in the Kelpie arc. He's not blinded by his love for these creatures, he's not overtaken by baseless empathy - he understands, understands better than anyone, that these are at the end of the day monsters, and they are dangerous, and when push comes to shove sometimes you've just got to kill them. In fact it's his love for them that lands him this knowledge and understanding in the first place - just as I know that there's no room for fear and weakness when it comes to interacting with dogs, he knows there's no room for hesitation and empathy when it comes to interacting with montsers.

It's so fucking realistic of someone who genuinely researches and cares about these creatures, rather than superficially "liking animals" and then trying to assign human qualities to inherently inhuman creatures.

God.

Laios is fantastic fucking representation.
