I tried a different artstyle approach within last week(mainly because I think I draw too messy).

First one with just base colors. Second one with more detail.

The artstyle is clean yes but...

THESE PHASES MAN 😭.

Will I keep this artstyle? No probably not its too much not my style, though maybe I just need to grow with it.

The Core Five of Robot Trains: Except...They are in a Jolibee Core 5 Mascots outfits 😅

[I don't even know why I did this, just that one day in a school ride I said "Lowkey they kinda remind me of the 5 characters in the Jolibee."]

Today, we got Jolibee Kay, Popo Duck, Hetty Selly, Twirlie Alf and Yum Duke.

Its really based on what their character is like really(and also unfortunately, I have to improvise some stuff in designs lol).

I really had fun drawing and coloring all of them :D. I did not have fun making this with the main artstyle though.

The Mascots in Question:

[I have a bigger drawing idea saved for soon(Maybe tomorrow? Who knows), but earlier I decided to use auto translate in an RT episode for fun(in Filipino) and I think one of the translated lines led me to doodle a random drawing.]

"I'll face it"(EN)/ "Haharapin ko"(FIL) is the main translated line that led Alf to well, drawn like that. Heavily inspired in outfit by a certain Filipino Hero, as well as colored like a type of painting I forgot.

Time spent: One and a half hour I think?

This reminded me to continue more planned stuff 😔, I better get going huh?

I don't necessarily practice drawing, but with enough inspiration and references, slowly overtime you'll be able to draw off your mind without much issue.

Process wise, start loose yet readable for your sketches. You don't need to necessarily draw and expect it to look like what you have envisioned. Whether it is a character you have made or another character made by others, understanding the shapes that makes a certain pose work is important.

Don't be afraid to have a messy sketch :).

Also a note is that when you start on the more cleaner sketch, you can still have some more loose lines in them, it gives it a lot more freedom when you color.

On coloring, if there is one thing I never do, it is to go with a high saturation for the base color. Use high saturated colors when its shading or something for a strong highlight. I do reccomenf saturated base color if the style calls for it, but if you want something that complements, go for a little less saturated base.

Also if possible, pick a color pallette from the start :D.

And lastly, the lighting. Any color can work, especially if its complementary colors. Usually, blue and orange is a nice way to end the drawing on a good note :D.

It is an important lighting note that you know where the light source is. In this example, the first drawing has the light source on the left, and in the second, the light source is upwards.

All these techniques I just mixed based off some Youtuber Artists I really love the artstyle or the coloring technique :D. Some of them are LavenderTowne, Kooleen, SamDoesArts and Jazza.

Though most important note of them all, have fun! If you wanna draw everyday even for just one minute a day, go for it. If you have an artist in mind that you really want to learn their artstyle, try to see what you like on their style and implement it. If you want to have multiple artstyles for specific stuff, rock it all :D.
