An interesting demonstration of how the human brain works.
But also something of a lesson regarding perception, and the unreliability of subjective perspective versus objective reality.
You can be extremely certain about how you perceive the world, your "lived experience," that which you "feel it in my heart." But that doesn't mean it's actually true. And it doesn't mean we have to endorse it, or ignore or outright deny objective reality.
That's a "you" thing, not a "we" thing.

BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE ANY CENTS!!!
Anyone wanna go to taco bell and discover the meaning of life and finally find a way to stop the ever expanding black hole in our souls from erroding us further, thus bringing back the childlike wonder and love of life we mightve never felt but trick ourselves into believing we had as a last attempt at staying human? Haha it's ok if youre busy tho no worries
Sorry if it’s a little cramped- had to make this all fit in ten photos. Hope you guys like it….. and again…. sorry Andrew

This is on the short list of Eternal Reblog because it’s fucking legendary.
wanted to share my favorite cover of The World Revolving
like i don't even listen to accordion music but this cover is so good and it fits so well
my friend just told me that there's a secret second dashboard that solely contains posts from people you've turned on post notifications for, and when i click the link in the messages it opens it within the tumblr app, so the tumblr app also has a secret second dashboard for post notification blogs, and the only way to access it is to open the link for it within the app.
i literally love tumblr
At last, the collection is complete
Do you have like, a favorite detail in the series that you think most people don't notice, or just doesn't get enough credit?
you know, i'm not really sure? i thought about it for a while, and i have a couple thoughts, but i don't know if either of them really counts.
first off: kyon being a space-loving dork who's constantly comparing haruhi to stars/constellations/etc; which i've pointed out more than once and really just think is surprisingly sweet. there's not a whole lot of commentary on it that i've been able to find outside of my own 'haha, what a nerd' posts, but admittedly outside of scouring every fanfic-related thing i could find i haven't looked super hard
second on 'we should talk about this more': can we address how haruhi doesn't even question waking up to find kyon literally in her bed for like ten minutes. she was just like 'oh, hey' and i'm sitting here like... hello??? that is just way too chill a response. even if it was someone i knew and liked that appeared in my room while i was sleeping, i'm pretty sure i'd slap them before doing anything else
and this last one is a little bit different, but something i noticed a lot while going through older stuff - posts, youtube comments, that sort of thing - is a lot of people (used to???) seem to be under the impression that kyon actually can't stand haruhi. like, that he outright hates her or at best just tolerates her. and i'm left sitting here wondering if we've even been reading/watching the same series
so i guess the last detail that it feels like people don't give enough credit to is the fact that kyon (as well as his own narration) is blatantly full of shit
on point #2, I feel like that’s definitely where the situation was headed before Yuki, Koizumi and Ms. Asahina showed up. It’s still v. odd though, cause that’s also what I immediately assumed was gonna happen too. On the third point, I can actually kind of understand it? at least why they’d think that way. that is, if they watched the anime the order it released w/o reading the light novels. Because in the original release, Sigh was aired last(I believe), and even I struggle to get through sigh in the anime because of how turbulent Kyon is and how bad Haruhi acts. And for a lot of people, Sigh was the very last bit of Haruhi they saw, before the movie, and even then that wouldn’t be out for a long while. Sigh is actually the sole reason I prefer the LN order over the Chronological order, because like.. how do I put this. The timeline isn’t chronological, but the character development is? if that makes any sense? ‘Cause in the LN’s Melancholy and Sigh are, in my mind the worst of Haruhi, before she really gets any serious development. And that works because they’re one right after the other, and even if Boredom takes place between the two chronologically, from the readers perspective the worst is still behind them. Even though Haruhi still has some questionable behavior(like dressing mikuru up in a cheerleader costume to distract the other teah, and creating closed space because she’s losing), it’s still lightyears better than her behavior in Sigh. But if you’re watching the anime, you have Melancholy, then Boredom, then a lot of fun mostly lighthearted episodes, Endless Eight, which is trouble of a different nature, and Then the final note is sigh(I.E. Haruhi and Kyon at their respective worst). Even if in the end things are kind of okay, it’s still a very.. rough arc, especially when it follows up all of the more lighthearted ones
kunikida’s really out here predicting the breakup of two people who aren’t even together
okay, true
i wonder what the chances are that someone started a betting pool?
right - i’d forgotten about that, too; that’s probably true
my personal theory (for no reason other than it would be funny) is that it’s also spread further than that at this point and that the eventual winner is definitely yuki
that would be the plot twist of the century
yes yes yes
i think they passed “will they or won’t they” in the eyes of everyone else a good few months ago at least
i’d put my bet on around the cultural festival, personally, thank you live a live
(unfortunately they were not included in this revelation and the rest of us must continue to suffer)
i’d imagine there’s probably some very funny and weirdly specific guesses too
just because of how unpredictable haruhi is to everyone else
and then no one ever doubts yuki’s fortune telling skills ever again
it was a beautiful ted talk, thank you for providing it
i am absolutely interested
Alright, so to start off, this entire concept swings on Haruhi realizing she’s into Kyon before they graduate, and that the window of opportunity for the bet ends At graduation, since at that point the class splits up anyways and there’s no real way to collect.
Continuing from the point where the poll spreads throughout their entire graduating class, because Haruhi is Haruhi, she inevitably finds out. Probably sooner than later. And she finds the concept First and foremost, an invasion of her privacy, but second she also finds it funny. Just the concept that she would fall for Anybody, let alone Kyon is so out there to her at this point it’s a joke(This is likely pre-disappearance, around Sigh or boredom). The only reason she really gets involved is because she thinks something along the lines of “The only one allowed to profit off of My personal life is Me”, mostly on principle, although the money is a nice bonus. And so she bets “Haruhi and Kyon will never get together”, and leaves it at that. Fast-forward to Senior year, at some point Haruhi realizes she actually Is into Kyon. And this is a problem. Because not Only should someone else not be able to profit off of her personal life, but they Definitely can’t be right about it. She shouldn’t be that easy to read. Plus she doesn’t want to give anyone like Taniguchi the satisfaction of having been right. So she doesn’t say anything, and rides out all of senior year w/o saying anything about it to anyone. The day of graduation, after the ceremony is over and she has presumably collected the pot, the SOS brigade likely goes out to that same old cafe to celebrate, she confesses(or something. Knowing her it wouldn’t be that simple), and they end up getting together.
Immediately following, a couple of ‘Witnesses’ from their class that were watching this unfold come up and reveal Yuki’s bet, which was, of course: “Haruhi Suzumiya will find out about the pool, and bet that they will never get together. In senior year she will fall in love, and then wait until immediately after she has claimed the pool at Graduation & confess to Kyon”.
Needless to say, Haruhi is furious, and Kyon has only just now found out about the bet. Also because Haruhi loses whatever money was in the pool, Kyon once again ends up paying for everyone else’s meal.
