477 S Mill St, Kansas City, Kansas.

I grew up less than a mile south down the road from here. When I was a teenager I’d head out at twilight with a few of the neighborhood kids and we raced bikes across the gravel. When they put up a chain fence, a hole was immediately cut through it by the local homeless people. They hired more night watchmen and put up those security towers you see in the image. If we were seen, we knew all the places to bike to so we could get away. We had a few scares, but nobody was ever arrested. We had to drive over that bridge to school, so we were all familiar with the train yard.

I was at the deepest point of my depression when they started building up the brick wall. Most of the homeless had long been driven away by police when the company paid them off, and the drug dealers scared away the rest.
