Pocahontas’ real name was Matoaka, and she wasn’t poisoned. She contracted a respiratory infection on the ship back to the americas and her “husband” left her on an island to die along with her child.  She only “converted” to Christianity because her captors threatened to destroy her  tribe. She married John Rolfe to secure the safety of her people. I love the movie, it is beautiful animation. But it has been vastly detrimental to American education. I had an AP U.S. history textbook in highschool that had the Disney version of the story and claimed it as fact. Government curriculum is well known for trying to cover up it’s faults, so it is always a good idea to look up historical facts outside of regulated textbooks.

…They… they claimed the Disney version was factual?

…Did they think people were singing songs as they armed for war?
