At the beginning my art scholarship in April an May 2015 at Geothe Institut Porto Alegre I had the pleasure to coordinate for one week the workshop of this marvellous group of artists from Mercosul, the very South of South America.

We developed together the exhibition topic of "chaos and order". After the workshop the Mercosul artists went back to their home bases. I lead two seminars with students of the UFRGS art and computer science department at the university of Porto Alegre. We set up an temporarily media lab at the Goethe Institut, where I stayed. In this time the exhibtion topic got into the shape of "Observation Space".

The MALM was initated by the Goethe Insitut Porto Alegre as an cooperation project together with the Goethe's Buenos Aires (Argentinia), Montevideo (Uruguay), Sao Paulo (Brasil) and Santiago de Chile.

The MALM project started last year with the invitation of Sandra Becker to the Goethe Institut Porto Alegre where she worked together with Elaine Tedesco.

Thanks a lot to Marina Ludemann from Goethe Insitut Porto Alegre, who invited me for an art scholarship in April and May 2015 and give me the chance make this extraordinarily experience.

Many thanks also to my 10 year old daughter Stella who accompanied me. I appreciate a lot her patience and the confidence how she handled this different life situation.

EIKONAL Peggy Sylopp 2015 interaktive Media-Installation mit zwei Raspberry Pi's und einem Pi2Go, programmiert u.a. in Pure Data

Die Installation greift das Thema Überwachung auf. Titel gebend ist der Skandal um die "Operation Eikonal", bei der der deutsche Geheimdienst (BND) eine enorme Menge privater Daten an die NSA lieferte. Meine Installation spielt mit dem Moment der Überwachung und will ihn sichtbar und damit erfahrbar machen.

Der Begriff „Eikonal“ kommt aus der Physik und beschreibt mathematisch die Ausbreitung von Wellen. Eine mögliche Form kann ein Herz sein, was in die Installation integriert wurde.

Bei der Installation arbeite ich mit dem schönen Schein und der im Verborgenen liegenden ständigen Überwachung. Eine angenehm anmutende grafische Projektion wird kontrapunktiert durch das Überwachungsbild der Besucher, ihrem "Eikon". Ein kleiner Roboter mit Kamera sich an einer fiktiven Grenzlinie in Herzform in Bewegung und streamt das Bild auf die Projektion.

The installation emphasizes on surveillance. The titel is inspirated by the "Operation Eikonal", the German secret service (BND) delivered an enormous amount of private dates to the NSA. My installation plays with the moment of monitoring, makes it visible and experiencable.

„Eikonal“ is a physical term and describes mathematically the expansion of waves. A possible form can be a heart which is integrated into the installation.

A softly moving graphical projection (programmed on Raspberry) reacts on Movements and is opposed by the surveillance video of the visitors, their "Eikon". The robot Pi2Go with a camera follows a ficitve borderline in the form of an heart and streams the video to a Raspberry.
