Silly headcanon: Spider being treated like a stuffed animal by the Sully kids. They can’t sleep without him, he must be there for them to get any semblance of rest.

It starts because Spider used to take naps with them as kids but got sick once and they couldn’t see him for a two weeks. During that time, Kiri and Lo’ak were insufferable. Kiri said the world was too loud and Lo’ak complained that his pillow was too soft. Neteyam also is sleeping less and took to cuddling one of Spider’s loincloths he left behind because it smells like him. Jake and Neytiri were at their wits end when finally Spider showed back up and they find the four of them in a pile, their kids knocked out while Spider seems content being used as a pillow for the next hour.

Tuk is the worst because she’s got attached as a baby. Neytiri broke down once and demanded Norm bring the boy to sleep with them one night when Tuk is sick and won’t stop screaming for him. Every since, he’s been her go to, she will fall asleep on top of him instead of beside him because she’s gonna leech being smaller than him for as long as possible.

Lo’ak goes through a phase where he pretends he doesn’t need Spider to sleep only to toss and turn all night every night and wake up grumpy. It gets to the point where Jake is so fed up that he make Lo’ak sleep at Hell’s Gate since Spider can’t sleep in a mask for long.

Kiri and Neteyam are unashamed in their dependency. They’ll do their night routine and then go find Spider even if he’s not ready to go to sleep. Kiri will normally be fine with staying up until he’s finished whatever he’s doing. Neteyam, on the other hand, will just pick him up and bring him to bed, he’s not sacrificing his beauty sleep for anyone.

No because listen

"A son for a son,"- a threat

"A son for a son,"- a claiming of ownership

Spider's entire role is much like Jake's in the first film. They aren't mirroring each other however they are paralleled. Jake had to earn his place amongst the people, that was his entire arc the first movie. Spider earned his place by protecting his family. He has proven himself. It's Neytiri's turn to acknowledge it. That's the missing piece and the family will be complete. Avatar 2 was merely the first pivot of his adoption story. He's already a Sully.

Please fandom, please you are driving me nuts. Also, when a phrase is repeated its establishing a theme so paying attention to what is said is important to understanding the parts that follow.

Spider Sully is official. Period.

The only good thing he did.

"Your father caused a lot of suffering to me and my people. – Neytiri's voice was hard as stone. – He was a demon and you are his son."

Spider takes a deep breath to keep the sobs from coming out of his throat. The words slicing through her heart like mini-spears. It's not even the worst thing he's ever heard, but damn, it didn't hurt any less, especially coming from someone he harbored affection for.

Neytiri speaks again, her words finally causing Spider to cry, but not out of sadness this time.

"The only good thing he did."

...

James Cameron, please, is that too much to ask? 😭

My personal headcanon is that Tsu'Tey needs to use a cane, cos he definitely didn't just walk of that gigant ass fall he took at the end of the last movie without any serious consequences to his health (both physical and mental), and that at first he kinda despised the fact that he had to use it, cos to him it just proved as a reminder that he no longer is the warrior he use to be, like some things he just can't do anymore or can't do as well as before and it just tears him apart. He becomes distant and can be very irritable at times, especially when his injuries flar up further, and sometimes just wishes he was with Eywa because he doesn't see a point to him even being alive if he can't contribute to the clan as a warrior. Now enter Spider, this little human child who no one seems to particularly care for or acknowledge (except the Sully kids ofc), who he meets by accident one day while he was watching the trainees doing their thing, in a shadow of some tree, brooding, and Spider just casually approaches him asking Tsu'Tey if he wants to play with him and stuff (like Na'vi version of tag or smt), but Tsu'Tey just tries ignoring him and shooing him away, but Spider is a persistent little bean and eventually he just outright tells him he can't play with him cos he's hurt. Upon hearing this Spider just stares at him for a few seconds and leaves. Thinking he finally got rid of him, Tsu'Tey gets back to his usual brooding, before the child reappears mere minutes later with some strange fruit looking thing between his hands (its a basketball he found somewhere in Hells Gate) and he just sits across him and tosses the thing to him. His VERY confused but still tosses it back to Spider, which goes over his head and he has to go get it, but eventually comes back and does the same thing and Tsu'Tey is just, forced to play along. After this Spider starts visiting him at the same spot almost every day and bringing some object with him so he and Tsu can play together and after some time Tsu'Tey doesn't mind it that much anymore, he even starts looking forward to their little meetings every day and even starts telling Spider some common Na'vi stories and he always sits still and listens. Tsu'Tey starts felling mentality and physically better overall, he starts sleeping better, felling less grumpy and starts feeling like less of a burden to his Clan. He also teaches Spider basic survival skills and stuff like how to shoot a bow and such, which he can still to pretty efficiently. Eventually he starts wondering who are the boys parents or at least foster parents, so he goes to ask Jake and that's when he finds out that he's the son of Quaritch, the man who helped destroy their Hometree. Tsu'Tey is in shock, but is not outright rejecting Spider now, just sort of, avoiding him and not spending as much time with him, cos he's still processing how something so kind and precious can be related to a Demon so cruel and evil. Spider takes the whole thing thinking he did something wrong and that his father figure is mad at him for it. This leads to a scenario where goes missing (aka goes into the woods alone without telling anyone) and Norm comes to Tsu to ask him if Spider is w/him and Tsu'Tey starts promptly freaking out when he tells them that he is not and they tell him that Spider is not with them either. They all go to search for him in the woods and at some point Tsu'Tey finds himself alone in some section of it, very desperate, and starts yelling that he is sorry for avoiding him and begging him to come back and Spider actually DOES appear after that, red eyed and with a runny nose, and Tsu'Tey just huggs him so tight and tells him to never do that to him again. After Tsu'Tey explains to him why he was avoiding (and that he is still very very sorry for it) they go back to the search party and everyone is soo relived that they finally found him ALIVE. Later he comes to Jake and, with a straight face, tells him: "Ye so anyway I'm keeping this little nantag pup over here cos no one else seems to care enough to officially do it."

Anywho I'm sorry this got WAY to long but when my brain hyperfocuces ond something I just need to rant it out to someone and I JUST *frustrated autistic noises*

Thanks for listening, hope I didn't bore you in any way! 😅

YOU GOT ME SITTING HERE LIKE:

OMG YOU HAVE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL BRAIN! THE ANGST POTENTIAL FOR THIS, THE FOUND FAMILY, THE FATHER-SON DUO SHENANIGANS! SPIDER BEING JUST AN ADORABLY SWEET LITTLE GUY WHO COAXES TSU'TEY OUT OF HIS SHELL! THEM JUST HELPING EACH OTHER BY EXISTING!

The fact Tsu'tey tries to get Spider to leave him alone but Spider just have a 'you're my friend now' moment, and immediately returns with a ball so Tsu'tey can comfortably play with him! STOPPPPPP! THAT'S SO CUTE! MY HEART! And then before he knows it, this just becomes as DAILY THING, AND TSU'TEY HAS NO BLOODY IDEA HOW. He just wants to be sad but Spider is INCREDIBLY persuasive.

NUUU, THE MIDWAY ANGST OF SPIDER BELIEVING HE'S DONE SOMETHING WRONG!!! And then Tsu'tey at the end being like 'might as well' and just adopts Spider. Bet Jake didn't get a say, despite him being the Olo'eyktan and Tsu'tey technically has to run it by him if he's bringing someone new into the clan. Then again, Jake could probably see how good the pair for were one another and let it slide regardless. (Tsu'tey would have had strong words for him if he had put up a fuss of course).

I would consume the fuck out of this concept if you ever decided to expand! Thank you so much for sharing :)))))

Sully kid childhood headcanons

❤️ Spider and Kiri had been dealing with the seizures for years without knowing what they were - they started when the sky people returned and normally were very small or more akin to falling asleep than anything - essentially the scene where Spider sits over her at the start of the movie

❤️ They dealt with it quietly thinking it was more of Kiri being blessed/weird than a medical concern - Spider almost threw up when he found out it was medical and she could have died

❤️ Spider has a lot of tiny immunities and adaptations on Pandora - some of them are small and almost unnoticeable like allergy adaptions or food tolerances and others almost seem like super powers, like him not being killed by wildlife immediately (something they sort of blame as him being attached to Kiri for most of their childhoods) or his heat resistance (aka how this mostly white ass child has his skin in tact)

❤️ Na'vi don't really have periods so the first period for all of the AFAB kids was ROUGH

❤️ Trans! Spider was first and they thought he was actively dying ,,, like homie wears a loincloth it was bad

❤️ Kiri was ten times worse cause Na'vi are intersex and they were sort of betting on that overriding the human half but then she woke up cramping

❤️ Neytiri damn near killed Jake for not explaining them to her (to be fair, he tried. She thought it was barbaric and something only Spider would deal with and promptly blocked it from her memory)

❤️ Tbh Jake had no idea if he had sons or daughters until their first communions with their parents - it wasn't until joining ques that he really understood how Na'vi understand gender

❤️ Norm taught Spider than Paz was a hero - he didn't find out she was on the enemy side until he was almost 14. Lo'ak almost punched him for it

❤️ Lo'ak was the kid to ALMOST break a bone every other day

❤️ Lo'ak somehow never actually got hurt but Neteyam got hurt every single time trying to stop him

❤️ it's how come Neteyam had the pain tolerance to keep swimming

❤️ Kiri brought something home on a regular basis and had puppy eyes that got Jake and Neteyam to do almost anything - Neytiri was immune to all the puppy dog eyes her kids had...except Tuks. Tuk clocked her with just a hint of a pout

❤️ Kiri would take home anything she found - sometimes for good reason and sometimes because she decided it was her best friend

❤️ Jake likes to tease that Spider was one of such finds, it hurts when they're little but he wears it like a badge of pride when he feels comfortable in his place in the family

❤️ Neteyam has a gorgeous voice but any instrument he plays sounds like a dying wailing cow

❤️ Lo'ak is the opposite - if they could stop bickering, they would be a pretty good duet

❤️ Kiri, lovingly, sucks at both. She can do some spiritual songs for ceremony but it is with a ton of work to sound decent

❤️ Spider can sing well but the instruments are normally about as big as him...he does play a mad triangle when he makes one out of old lab equipment tho

❤️ Neteyam went through a mean phase that lasted approximately a week...he was snippy and just sort of bratty to everyone when he was like 11. It was fine until he made baby Tuk cry and Neytiri gave him the eye opening of a lifetime...he made being the best big brother ever his life goal after that

❤️ Spider and Lo'ak like to teach the ikran tricks - including some that probably should have gotten them both killed

❤️ Spider has a missing nick in his ear and scars on the back of his cheek from a tussle he and Lo'ak got into with the Syaksyuk near hometree - Lo'ak almost lost a couple fingers prying it off his face

❤️ They had to do all of Kiri's chores for a month and half to convince her to fix them up AND cover for them but Lo'ak had dirt on virtually everyone so he convinced her

❤️ Lo'ak was the village gossip - he was horrible at keeping secrets but he knew everything about everyone. His siblings had to censor him to keep him from getting his shit rocked

❤️ Neteyam had a line of kids with crushes on him and was oblivious to it. He was a very eligible bachelor to his age group and many wanted to court him through their teenage years with hopes of being his mate. He picked up on virtually none of it and was a bit of an accidental heartbreaker

❤️ Lo'ak, on the other hand, had a bit of the bad boy thing going until his mom dragged him across hometree by the ear. After that, his dorky side sort of overtook the bad boy look and he was sort of the town mischief maker. Very mixed reception from the older crowd but most of the younger were very fond of him

❤️ Kiri and Spider were always a package deal and the town weirdos. They had some of the youth fond of them but it was more of a distanced friendship than anything. They were mostly close with one another and their siblings.

❤️ "Monkey Boy" was because Jake said that raising the 5 of them was like herding monkeys but Spider was the only earthling so he was the only one who could be a monkey

❤️ Fun fact they do not understand what monkeys are

❤️ Tbr they don't understand a lot of earth things but they feel cool saying it

❤️ All of them are fluent but would probably sound very different with native speakers that hadn't just spent a decade on Pandora

❤️ Spider is BUILT but they all think he's puny cause he's so much smaller than Na'vi. On earth, he would be a pretty impressive athlete and it's literally just from this kid trying to survive

❤️ Lo'ak didn't tell anyone but he got into several fights protecting his siblings over the years. He also got Trudy to teach him to shoot long before Jake was aware...he always had a feeling that war wasn't over with

❤️ Lo'ak was always the best fighter, he just wasn't the best solider, Neteyam was. Jake just never realized the difference

❤️ Teamwork makes the dreamwork and these kids have nightmares

The Barbie Movie is the movie of all time for many reasons, but the core message being "Perfoming gender roles hurts everyone, you should be your authentic self no matter what society says" really knocked it out of the park

spider sully idea that’s giving me brainworms

(this could be in a platonic soulmates au or post atwow)

the first time neytiri ever hugs him is after he was in danger. maybe he was really hurt or sick or just missing but she really thought she was going to lose him forever. and it hurts and she can’t understand why. why does she miss him?

but when she gets gets him back, before she can question it she just hugs him and to her surprise he hugs her back. and it just suddenly clicks, for them and for everyone else. (except kiri who knew all along that they were gonna be besties)

more Tomi Spider Sully HCs

- he's still a year older than Neteyam but Jake gives Neteyam most of the responsibility of protecting and keeping the siblings safe and in line. Spider doesn't think it's fair for his baby bro to take all the responsibility that he, as an older brother, should have. Spider feels as though he isn't true na'vi because even his own father doesn't trust him to keep his siblings safe, that he's too human to be able to guide them. and it's true that Jake does this because Spider is more human than his siblings, but not because he thinks he is unworthy of responsibility, it's because Spider has had too many close calls. While Spider is too human, he is also too na'vi. Jake does this as a form of protection, but he doesn't say it to anyone, not Spider, not Neteyam. And because of this lack of communication, Spider keeps trying to prove himself worthy of being the eldest and not feel like a burden to his baby bro, while Neteyam feels like since he is treated like the eldest, he shouldn't be treated like a baby, and doesn't wanna receive comfort because he 'doesnt need it' (this is one of @lovermyme 's and i wanted to expand on it)

- Spider's first communion with Eywa was how they found out that his queue doesn't work. it simply latches on but that's it. There were whispers during the ceremony, that the child is much too demon for Eywa to accept him. But before Neytiri, sad and angry, hisses at the people, Mo'at takes hold of Spider and brings him close to the roots of the tree, Spider eagerly getting close to the tree, and the place where Spider made contact glowed, and Spider's eyes lit up. Mo'at smiles that knowing smile of hers, "Eywa has accepted the child", she announced, almost pointedly to the whisperers. This was the only time Spider connected. Neytiri and Jake asks questions but all Mo'at answers everytime is: " Eywa has plans for the boy"

- It was actually Neytiri who named Spider 'Tomi' . i like to think that Neytiri only pronounces 'Jake' like more humanly (jjake) is mostly to respect him and his name and because she went to school with Grace who taught them english and english pronunciation, but when she's pissed her accent comes out and pronounces it more na'vi (tsyeyk) the way she prefers to say it, so to Neytiri, it makes sense to name the firsborn of Tsyeyk and Neytiri as Tomi. also yes she heard the name in Jake's memories.

- Spider grew up with a mask almost always around his neck and uses it every few hours or so, so one exopack could last him 3-4 weeks. because of this, Spider has always been the first to wake up and last to wake, despite Neteyam's protest who acts almost competitive on who could wake up earliest, do the most, and sleep the latest.

- definitely, kinda blessed. Didnt get an ikran the way Kiri did, but still managed to get one, with as much difficulty as an adult na'vi would. when the Sully family came to Awa'atlu, (Spider gets taken differenty in this AU because the fall he took in the movie wasn't enough to disoerient him the same way so he wasnt taken. he'll still be taken, don't worry, im still an angst whore to my bones) both him and Kiri would adapt faster, always circled around by the sea creatures, etc.

- the way Spider gets taken in this AU is when Aonung takes Lo'ak and Spider out, but they get separated when they were attacked and Spider was found by some of the human fishermen and thought, "what a freak of nature, how much you'll he'd cost, eh?" which eventually, somehow got him to the RDA and things continue like i. the movie. They plan a search and rescue, obviously doesn't work because, he's been found already, and Lo'ak talks to Payakan, hoping to help find his brother, Payakan doesn't know either because he was too busy fighting of the predator. and again things continue like in the movie.

- The only time Spider's glowy-freckle things glow was his first Communion with Eywa.

- He also doesnt have the body markings na'vi have.

- Weirdly hairless. he only has the peach fuzz both na'vi and humans have. no arm hair, leg hair, no beard too.

- also has a lower body fat percentage, that stockiness he has?? pure fucking muscle, boy is built

- Spider is taller in this, at 16 he is 6'5". the tallest he'll ever be is 7'10". (i legit just searched who is the tallest basketball players and added 2 inches. and i search the average na'vi height which is 9ft) thankfully this doesn't come with any drawbacks like it does in humans, scoliosis, bone diseases, etc. his queue and tail are still too long for him tho.

Au that Max and Norm totes hide who Spider's bio dad is. Like Max and Norm gets this mysterious abandoned baby's DNA test and it turns out he is the son of Colonel Quaritch and a pilot named Paz Socorro. Of course Norm is in complete disbelief, no way a murderer like Quaritch could produce an offspring like this cute kid???

Norm: Run the test again.

Max: I ran them three times!

Norm: No! How can that asshole make this!

(Que an adorable baby Spider cooing at Norm)

Norm knows as soon as Neytiri or any Navi, forget the humans that would hold a grudge against Quaritch, find out about Spider's parentage, this kids life is going to be hell. So both men decide to... not tell anyone who Spider's dad is. The kid looks nothing like Quaritch and takes mostly after his mother, with the big brown eyes and curly hair, except where the mother is brunette, the son is blonde. It takes Norm three hours later to find a semblance of a birth certificate in the rooms the baby was found, in a shoe box under the bed. The paper brings a smile to Norm's face.

Javier Socorro

Born:2154 Pandora

Mother: Pasquella Marie Socorro

Father: N/A

Convenient. Most likely the jackass didn't want to be linked to the only woman who broke the rules of having a child on Pandora or Socorro knew Quaritch's enemies would come after the baby.

Norm and Max decide to erase all evidence of Quaritch from Javi's, Norm's name for the baby, life. The humans that were involved with the conception or birth of Javi are no longer on Pandora, so there is nobody to reveal his parentage. So it's easy for Norm to hit delete on everything about Spider.

Max: We tell absolutely no one of Javi's bio dad, got it? Take it to the grave.

Norm:Bet.

Mo'at, spying from the spirit tree: Bet

Eywa, herself: Bet.

Next with Jake and everyone else. It's not that Max and Norm do not tell Jake of the existence of a human baby on Pandora but just 'forget'.

It's not until Jake comes with a pregnant Neytiri on an unannounced visit, Max and Norm doing work with a white bassinet between them. Both him and Norm freeze when the two Na'vi spot the bassinet and immediately Neytiri is looking at it in alarm. Jake is the one who draws closer, stepping in front of Neytiri. This prompts Norm to hurriedly give an explanation of the presence of a human baby on Pandora, who his parents are (Paz Socorro and an aviation tech Norm knows is dead), and why they can't send the baby to earth. The kid won't survive the journey. Most likely, the kid will die in cryo-sleep. Jake asks more questions about the baby while Neytiri is staring at the baby for so long it puts Max on edge. Finally, the two Na'vi leave and the two scientists believe they are home free.

Until the next day, Jake and Neytiri are back with Jake wanting to hold Javi! Jokes that it's good practice for when the baby comes, even though Baby Spider can fit in the palm of Jake's hand, Neytiri herself just comments how small the child is. The two stay for four hours and both scientists are sweating buckets.

It gets better (or worst depending who you ask) when Neytiri becomes smitten with baby Spider!

Then suddenly Mo'at appears at Hell's Gate like.

Which almost gives Norm another aneurysm until Mo'at's like "chill bro, now give it here."

So in conclusion before I go on a long plot, Spider is given a better lease on life thanks to Norm and Max hiding Quaritch's identity from everyone. Yes, Spider would get slack for being a human but at least it isn't a 'sins of the father' type of hatred but just the mistrust of humans. Max and Norm at first are gonna raise Spider but then Jake and Neytiri fall in love with Spider and want to adopt him.

Jake and Neytiri:

Max and Norm:

Jake carrying baby spider in his arms, says with a smile: Your just like your mama.

Baby Spider gasps, than smiles happily: really?!

Jake kisses his forhead where the mask ends: yep.

*Years later*

Spider hovers protectively over his adopted fathers hurt form, hissing with his teeth and knife in hand. He's protecting him from his biological father. No fear at all.

Jake with blood running down his head, afraid for his kid: yeah just like your mama kid.

I just saw Avatar for the first time since it was in theaters 13 years ago. Some quick thoughts.

1) The CGI (mostly) still holds up. Aside from one sequence near the beginning, I don't think you can really tell this was made more than a decade ago. That's pretty damn impressive since CGI often ages poorly.

2) It's a better film that I gave it credit at the time though it's still quite flawed in some ways (more on that in a bit). But after a decade non stop of Marvel, DC, and Star Wars as the dominant box office brands it stands out a lot more and feels a lot more original.

3) It's hard not to perceive part of the backlash against the film among nerds (which I think the success of Way of Water has shown did not reach into the mainstream) comes from the fact that this film makes the Colonial Marines from Aliens the bad guys. Unequivocally. As someone who thought the Marines were never the most interesting part of Alien or its imitators that doesn't bother me as much.

4) I think another reason people (myself included) backlashed against the movie is that it is overwhelmingly, heart achingly sincere. There is not a sarcastic or self-mocking bone in Avatar's body. Everything it does is done with deliberate, open hearted purpose and frankly a lot of us nerds are uncomfortable with that! But again, after a decade of films aping the wink wink wisecracking of 2012's Avengers, one might argue Avatar's bleeding heart is actually a major plus in its favor.

5) That being said, it's not flawless and one bit of criticism from 2009 remains quite relevant: the film, while unequivocally anti-colonialist, is made with an entirely white lens. The Na'vi are the good guys, yes, but with the exception of Neytiri (and only barely to be honest), they're never the *heroes*. The greatest ass kicking moments, the greatest triumphs and heartbreaking moments belong not to them but to the humans like Jake, Grace, Norm, and Trudy. The Na'vi are sympathetic, but we don't see anything from their point of view: they're accessories to the human characters' emotional journey.

6) That being said, if this was the first movie you saw about colonialism I think you'd be hard pressed to come away from it thinking that was a *good* thing. Cameron is not the least bit subtle about painting Quaritch and RDA as the bad guys nor about drawing comparisons between them and not only historical colonizers but the modern U.S. military (see point 3).

7) One thing I appreciate a lot more now than I did in 2009 is the sheer volume and quality of worldbuilding. It's clear this was a passion project for Cameron and he put every bit of detail he could cram in. It's also a very notable early example of a conlang that isn't either Tolkien or Klingon.

8) Lastly, the movie struck me as faintly religious which is interesting. I don't believe Cameron belongs to any religion but it struck me that Eywa very much represents an idea he would like to believe is true, even if he doesn't actually believe in it.

Anyhow, I might do a more detailed analysis after I watch Way of Water, but for now I'll end by saying Avatar remains a complicated but very well made movie, with a good message muddled somewhat by an exoticizing lens.

I guess the reason I hate the amount of Quaritch thirst, as someone who has many villain/”problematic” faves, is because he’s too real. There are real people out there like him, who are in power like him, and who would do and have done what he’s done.

Miles Quaritch could be a very real person we see in our world. Someone who happily watches the mass destruction and death of a people he deems inferior (people who are also clearly an allegory for real indigenous people). Someone who torches villages and destroys lives because he can. There are real people like that, and that what makes him a compelling villain. It’s also what makes me hate him, and want to see him dead (and major props to Stephen Lang for being able to make me feel that, he’s an amazing actor).

anti quaritch posts are back you’re welcome

the section of this fandom that demonizes neytiri and jake constantly for their treatment of spider but babygirl quaritch constantly will never cease to baffle me

i see people saying neytiri was going to kill spider as a reason for hating her, (which i don’t believe, she was bluffing but that’s beside the point) but don’t hate quaritch for trying to kill so. many. children.

like even if you believe the stupid,“ recom quaritch is a clone so his actions as human don’t count“ argument, kiri, loak, tuk, tsireya, were almost murdered MULTIPLE TIMES by him while a recom and yet his stans see no issue???

and that’s not even getting into the shit he did to spider, the child he, you know, kidnapped from the only people who loved him

quaritch stans make your argument make sense fr fr

Ok but I have this very vivid vision of like olo'eytkans from different clans visiting the Omaticaya and they see Tsu'Tey carrying this tiny human child around with him in a sling and they go ask him about it and it goes something like this:

Some Clan leader: "Is that a-"

Tsu'tey: "BABY IN A BABY SLING, WHAT ABOUT IT."

*uncontrollable screaming* STOPPPP! THIS! I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE! Just baby Spider in his too big exo pack, slung across Spider's front in a little baby carrier, playing with Tsu'tey's kuru which he put over his shoulder for him to occupy himself, whilst his Dad tries to welcome a visiting Olo'eyktan.

May I present the events of this encounter in meme format (with addition of Spider in his toddler exo-mask which Norm had to size-down so it would fit him) :

You know what? Fuck it. We're talking about the Ikran racing au.

We all know that at some point Spider is getting the green light to get his own ikran. Yeah, It's not going to be done how it's usually is, not by a long shot, but it will happen. The people have seen how much he cares for them and how much they thrust him. Everything will be set up for a given date and just the night before it, Spider will get cold feet. Why? Because while (mostly)everyone thrusts and has faith in him, he himself doesn't. He's full on ready to abort the event before Neytiri catches him. What does she do? you may ask. Well, she silently leads him to top of the tree where her own ikran (I don't remember if you said that Seze was alive in this au, I'm gonna say she is but idk) is waiting, all geared up and ready. Spider will be confused, frozen in place as he looks at Neytiri for any kind of indication to her intentions, only for her to pick him up like a toddler and seat him on the saddle. And before he can even say anything, she'll just say "fly" in her usual tone. Of course, Spider will think she is crazy, try to give and kind of and excuse, but just one look at her very much serious gaze will shut him up. Having no other option, he get's to it, nervously petting the ikran on the neck and asking her not to drop him. Taking a few moments to gather up the courage, he finally gives the verbal command, and their off. The two quickly get used to each other, managing to swiftly fly in the night sky as Neytiri watches with a smirk on her face, unaware of the na'vi behind her sharing her expression 😉.

And that's my little HC of how Spider's first solo flight happened.

If you have any more HC for interactions between Spider and Neytiri (And possibly her ikran) or anything else, please do share. God knows we need more Ikran racing au stuff.

I'll have you know that this ask made me shed real tears. I've been putting it off because I wanted to make sure I articulated the best response to this.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME, this is AMAZING. I had this idea sort of that the other Sully kids, probably Neteyam in the nocorro specific one, realize how much he wants to ride his own ikran. Neteyam brings it up to Kiri and she's like "of course he does you idiot." And then Neteyam finds a way to bring Spider to the ikran nests daily on their flights, and he begins to befriend the ikran there until one in particular stands out.

BUT THIS NEYTIRI IDEA??? Her silent support? I am obsessssed with it. I like the idea of Seze living. In this au, the racing being of such importance seems to me to highlight there not being much of an issue with humanity. They wouldn't have time for racing if there was still major colonization efforts. So, I think Seze being a champion ikran, and her bond with Neytiri being legendary, seems most likely to me. I stated before they are so good in the races because their bond is so strong, because Neytiri insists on doing all of Seze's care herself. Spider's methods, although largely self learned and taught, are somewhat based on Neytiri's methods as well. I said before too, he is the only one she trusts Seze's care to besides herself. Letting him ride her? That is a HUGE step, a massive sign of trust. Ikran fly with one Na'vi in their whole life, and even if Spider is not Na'vi, Seze still would never have flown with anyone else. Neytiri knew he needed to be shown that everyone believed in him wholeheartedly, even the ikran. It's really a beautiful idea, thank you anon. We totally do need more ikran riding au things.
