Fish sitter?
So I’m going to be away for about 10 days at Christmas. All my tanks but one can go that long without water changes, as long as I do some before I leave, but I’m a little worried about feeding. I have bettas and snails that should be okay, I think, but everything else is little (microrasboras kubotai and erythromicron, white cloud minnows, pencilfish, cherry shrimp) and I’m not sure they can make it that long without food, especially since some of those are fry about 3 months old.
How long should I expect those fish to be okay without food? I’m planning to hire someone to take care of my fish, but is it okay to just have them come just once in the middle? or should it be twice? Or do I need more than that?
I’m thinking maybe twice? I really don’t want to hire someone to come daily or anything, especially since I’m already hiring a sitter to come twice a day for the cats. But it has to be two people, because the cats need someone able to do meds and subQ fluids, and I don’t know anyone local who is that good with cats and also who I trust not to overfeed and kill my fish.
Get a eheim auto feeder. I was a bit skeptical about it when I first bought it but its quite good. Set it so it releases just a small amount of food, and trial run it for a few days into a bowl or something. Really quite good. I hate people feeding my fish because if anything happened, I'd be well angry at them. But if I mess it up, then it's just me who's an idiot haha.
