So I was exploring the HotDblack subreddit as you do when it’s late and you can’t sleep and one of the many things that I found very frustrating was the idea that team green was obsessed with Jaeheara and Aegon III ending up together.

But the do end up married? It’s short and very sad that these two kids have to marry to secure the end of the war, but that’s how the books show it. I would have liked Jaeheara to survive because she just a kid who lost her mom, twin brother, baby brother, both uncles, her granddads, and her dad is a burned husky of a man set on vengeance for his family. I want this poor girl to be happy and live a good life after all this trauma instead of being thrown through a window.

It would also mirror the war of the roses with two sides of the family coming together to end a long and deadly war that was basically pointless. Both sides were so concerned with having the throne and their children inheriting it but at the end it doesn’t matter because both sides’ descendants end up on the throne.

But you know what, it’s fine. Vaemond Vaelyrion gets his blood on the iron throne through Daenera Vaelyrion.

Can't rewatch episode 9 (The Green Council) without going through major cringe. Like, this episode was literally a joke. 🥴🥴🥴🥴

Sometime thereafter, two men, remembered as Blood and Cheese, snuck into the chambers of Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower in the Tower of the Hand.

As was her custom, Queen Helaena Targaryen took her three children to visit their grandmother at dusk, before they went to bed.

Once Helaena entered the chambers with Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor, Blood barred the door and slew Helaena's guardsman while Cheese snatched Maelor. Cheese told Helaena that they were two "debt collectors", and asked which one of her sons she wanted to lose. The Queen offered herself but the two killers refused, telling her that it had to be a son, a boy. The weeping Helaena eventually named her youngest child, two-year-old Maelor. The grinning Blood slew Prince Jaehaerys instead, striking off the boy's head with a single blow from his sword. The two men did no further harm to Helaena, Jaehaera, or Maelor, fleeing with Jaehaerys's head in hand

Her brow was hard set and her hands gripping her wrists. The steely Queen was back.

“I’m listening,” Aemond said.

“You must marry soon,” the order came, ringing in his ears like the distant toll of bells at the Sept. “Forge an alliance strong enough to double if not triple our forces against the Princess. Can you do this?”

Marry.

Soon.

You must.

The command from the gods could puzzle anyone; even Aemond who was made of more poisonous, hard material.

“I wasn’t expecting this,” he admitted.

After all, what did he know of marriage other than spikes and thorns? It was nothing more than a golden cage to imprison two lost souls or, in Father and Mother’s case, souls that despised each other.

do you have any advice on creating plotlines and planning your story arc to make it easier to write? i almost never have a solid idea of what i want to have, which ends up with me only writing a few paragraphs because i couldn't plot properly.

As a pantser myself, I do not feel qualified to give plotting sort of advice, sorry.

questions to ask yourself to figure out something resembling a plot:

  • what's the goal of what you're writing? is it to examine a character? play in a world you've built? (those are the two most likely, since it sounds like you don't know what your story arc is)
  • what kinds of events would work toward that goal? (doesn't matter if they don't all tie together yet)
  • usually this will help me with the inciting incident OR the climax of a story
  • next, you ask yourself what does this moment cause OR what could cause this climactic moment? causation is important and helps ties things together! it can be emotional or it can be logistical, but that will give you the link between multiple moments/scenes, and that's really all a plot is

other tips: read up on the basics of story structure, if you haven't. ramble at friends - rubber duck debugging is a lifesaver. and pay attention to if you're doing any telling vs showing - there's lots of nuance on this topic, but if you're stuck, any telling you're doing is probably something that can be expanded on to create plot

also, don't delete those few paragraphs you wrote! flesh out any snippets of scenes that pop into your head as you do this, or at least note down the key points of those! that's probably got a good chunk of what you're trying to do, if you're writing them and then stallinig out. the trick is expanding it into a full-length* story

(full-length might be a single scene, or a novel. i write a lot of 1k oneshots and those fully count as writing. don't try to adhere to typical conventions of writing length if you don't want to)

There is no shame in starting over. Or not outlining. Or writing slowly. Or using clichés. Or writing multiple projects at the same time.

You are in charge of your own writing journey. It’s up to you which path to take, and none is less valuable than the other. - D

Dear fellow team green fans, I’ve finally managed to make a list of fanfictions on AO3 that every team green fan should read;

(Most of these aren’t aggressively team green but focus on team green characters and explore them in interesting and respectful ways )

Fist we have the holy trilogy:

1. Burning Jasmine by our national treasure @scalyfreaks and literally anything else that she writes (BJ is a beautifully written Aegon centric alteration of the dance of the dragons)

2. See, what happened was by @daylander1000 / Daylander on AO3 (the best Aemond centric fanfic I have ever read. If you dislike the strong boys and how Baela and Rhaena were done dirty in the show and love angsty preteens and “dark fluff” as the author herself describes it this is the jam)

3. All of @dulcewrites fanfictions are an absolute must for any team green fans (she handles the characters with such care and the humor is amazing)

Then we have the category that I like to call JUSTICE FOR ALICENT:

1. Springs end by Navree (long one shot that explores Alicent’s feelings at the beginning of her marriage to Viserys, beautifully written, I cried)

2. Give me back my girlhood it was mine first by JustA_Person (beautiful multi-chaptered fic that dives headfirst into Alicent’s depression at the beginning of her marriage and does not shy away from roasting the fuck out of Viserys and is currently heading towards a rekindling of the relationship between Alicent and Rhaenyra)

3. In your grave by 136108 (short but brilliant one shot on what Alicent should have told Viserys on his death bed)

Then we have Daemon and Viserys haters must read section staring;

1. Sins of the father by SelfProclaimedUnicorn ( ABSOLUTE MUST for any Daemon haters out there, this is the best there is. This fanfiction centers around two children Daemon has with Rhea Royce at the beginning of his marriage and follows them in their childhood and teenage years (the children are the same age as Rhaenyra and Alicent). This is one of the best written team green fanfictions I have ever read and it tells the story in such an intelligent and thought out way with some perfectly seasoned Daemon bashing sprinkled all over it. It also holds up so well considering that its plot is unlike any other team Green fanfiction out there and centers around characters that aren’t really explored enough. Oh and it also addresses the suffering Aemma went through trapped in marriage with Viserys which is always a great touch)

2. Out of the mouth of Babes by UnknownEnigma ( beautiful six chapter fanfiction exploring Aemonds relationships with Viserys that shows Viserys’ neglect and cruelty in all its glory and ends in a very satisfying way)

And then we have a few more brilliant fan fictions that I don’t really know how to sort into a category:

1. Lose your Ego by Fjlh (this series just started and is about Aegon USING HIS BRAIN and fighting for his claim. Very promising so far)

2. The sky is always red above Valyria au by Aifsaath (beautiful series of one shots about Aegon x Baela that explores the trauma of growing up with a father that maritally rapes your mother)

3. Lady Dreamfrye by Ai_Megurine (story about Sansa Stark being reborn as Helaena)

4. I’m never gonna love ( again ) by @crescenthoax (very interesting Aegon x oc fanfic )

5. My hand was the one you reached for by haught_hightower ( explores Alicent’s relationships with Criston and her children )

6. a poison tree by Juliet_Capulet ( very detailed and well written story about the younger brother of Daemon and Viserys returning to the capital with his daughter, after the death of his wife and witnessing Viserys’ brain dead decisions unraveling while forming a bond with his nieces and nephews. Full of Daemon and Viserys Bashing)

I hope you enjoy, it took me a real long while to find some of these gems

what would you think would happen if the greens just let rhaenyra sit on the throne

at a minimum, alicent's boys would have all been killed.

okay now that i've grabbed your attention, let me explain, and i promise i'll be able to make this entire argument without ever claiming rhaenyra is a bad person who wants to kill her family! the fact is that rhaenyra's rule was always going to face dangerous levels of backlash, because it threatened the lords of westeros's own claims to power in two major ways. as a reminder, westeros is closer to an empire consisting of autonomous kingdoms than a dictatorship, and the lords of westeros retain much more power than most fans seem to understand. alicent's sons would have ended up the pawns and figureheads for unhappy lords seeking to retain their power in the wake of unrest caused by rhaenyra's ascension. i'll explain all of this further below, using a historical example that i think is helpful.

first, we need to understand that rhaenyra's rule would have still been made very unstable because of two factors: her gender, and her very obvious bastard children. (as a side note, i've talked before about how it is literally genetically impossible for the strong boys to be laenor's sons and why we see people treating it like a fact here). why are these two things so impactful? because they threaten the claims of many of the lords and heirs in westeros's current system.
