i can't get over the way this show is repeatedly and not at all subtly saying that john's trauma/grief/loss doesn't excuse anything he did to his children. every character we encounter has experienced some version of it but he's the only one who never breaks out of the cycle. carlos chooses therapy. lata chooses peace. mary tries to choose herself but really ends up choosing to save people. but john chooses violence and he lets it consume his life and his kids' lives. and the thing is that sam and dean choose violence for a long time too. but in the end they do what john never could. sam chooses *screeching finale denying noises* and dean chooses love. and what if i'm crying about it?? what then????
in conclusion:
