Gender Troublemakers Mirha-Soleil Ross and Xanthra Phillipa, 1993, Canada

What happens when two Transdykes get sick of non-transsexual's uninformed representation of their sexualities and their lives? They grab their 8 millimeter home video camera, their last 200 bucks, and come up with an uncompromising in-your-face flick about their shitty relationships with gay men and their unabashed attraction to other transsexual women. (watch here 18+)

Happy birthday to Willem Arondeus!

Dutch resistance member Willem Arondeus was born on 22 August 1894. He was a writer and artist, and protected Jewish citizens during the Holocaust by forging them non-Jewish identity cards.

In an effort to prevent the cards from being checked against other records, Willem was involved with a plot to burn down the Amsterdam civil registry office, successfully destroying 800,000 identity cards. Those involved were betrayed and most of them were sentenced to death.

Before his execution on July 1st, 1943, Willem’s final request to his lawyer was to publicise that he and two of the other arrested men, Sjoerd Bakker and Johan Brouwer, were gay, and to share his final words:

“Tell the people that homosexuals are no cowards.”

Willem has been recognised by Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remebrace Centre, as a Righteous Among the Nations - the title given to non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.

Sigourney Weaver / production still from Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979)

Babe are you okay I saw you reblog Sigourney Weaver / production still from Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979)

The commentary by Ridley Scott he did for the Quadrilogy Boxset about this scene is hilarious. He said “She refused to pull up her panties and shave at all. We had to pay someone in 1979 something like 5 thousand dollars to air brush out all her minge hair on every single cell of film. It took weeks!”

pathetic. release the bush cut.

terfs celebrating that the international chess federation has banned trans women from competing in women's FIDE competitions, because it's sooooooo feminist to argue that women are so biologically inferior and nowhere near as smart as men and thus can't play chess on the same level. girl that's not feminism that's literally just misogyny

they'll lick any boot that stomps on trans women

"They'll lick any boot that stomps on trans women."

The situation is actually considerably more insidious than just saying that women are biologically inferior.

The reason why chess tournaments for women specifically exist isn’t because women can’t compete against men, but because professional chess has a rampant misogyny problem and female competitors often face horrific harassment from their opponents, coaches, audience members, media coverage, and international fans online. Many chess tournaments are actively unsafe for women, so tournaments specifically for women are to not just give them more attention and coverage, it’s also a measure to protect them from sexism and violence.

For this new rule to be made almost immediately after women, including at least one transgender women, it seems like it’s direct retaliation for daring to talk about misogynistic violence. It’s also very blatantly shifting the blame for that harassment onto transgender players, specifically transgender women (though trans men are also suffering because of these rules), implying that removing trans women from one of the few spaces in professional chess that they can feel semi-safe will solve the issue of sexual harassment.

It’s punishment, plain and simple. Punishment for daring to speak out about misogyny, punishment for daring to speak out about transphobia, and punishment for daring to stand in solidarity with trans women. Women spoke up against violence and hate and the ICF responded by trying to drive a wedge between them, by pinning the blame on their fellow women and fellow victims.

And now, transphobes who have never once given a single fuck about chess or sexual violence among chess players are flocking to praise a transphobic decision that is only being used to further silence victims of misogyny and violence. They don’t care that the letter was made as an act of solidarity between cis and trans women over the violence they all face, they don’t care that this will only further hurt women in the professional chess community, all they care about is that it hurts trans people.

Ancient Tomb with Bejeweled Woman and Child Found in Siberia

The skeletal remains of a richly adorned woman and a young child have been discovered in a burial mound in the Chinge-Tey archaeological site of Siberia. Grave goods found include gold earrings, an iron knife, an engraved wooden comb connected by a leather loop to a bronze mirror and a rare gold pectoral piece in a crescent shape. The burial dates to the 6th century B.C. when the valley was occupied by the Scythian Alda-Bielsko culture.

The mound is no longer a mound today, damaged to the point of being almost leveled, and was only detected thanks to aerial laser scanning that spotted the circular structure more than 80 feet in diameter. Archaeologists excavated the former mound and discovered a wooden burial chamber in the center. The heavy, elaborate chamber was built on a framework of interlocking beams with a wooden floorboards and topped with three layers of beams to form a roof. The skeletons of a woman aged around 50 years old and a child two or three years old were inside the chamber.

The Chinge-Tey site is in the Turano-Ujukska Valley which has been ycleped the “Siberian Valley of the Kings” because of the proliferation of large burial mounds packed with rich grave goods that have been discovered there.

“A particularly interesting monument was the golden pectoral, a crescent or moon-shaped ornament hanging at the neck” – noted in an interview with PAP the head of the Polish part of the expedition, Dr. Łukasz Oleszczak from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He emphasized that such objects, known from burial mounds in southern Siberia, have so far been found almost exclusively in men’s graves.

“They were considered a symbol of belonging to some social group, caste, perhaps warriors – men at least. Placing him in a woman’s grave is a very interesting departure from this custom. It certainly proves the unique role of the deceased in the community of inhabitants of the Valley of the Kings” — believes the archaeologist.

At the same time, he pointed out that the woman was buried in the central part of the tomb located in the immediate vicinity of the great mound belonging to – as researchers believe – the prince of nomads. “It seems that, like the other dead buried in this mound, she belonged to the princely retinue,” said Oleszczak.

There are traces of even more grave goods, bronze objects buried around the mound. A few pieces have been found — a bronze ice ax, animal-shaped figurines — using a metal detector, but archaeologists believe there were many more than were scattered during agricultural work at the site in the 20th century.
