Satanic Risk

EVER WANTED TO DOMINATE THE WORLD? EVER WANTED TO FIGHT SATAN WHILST YOU'RE AT IT? THEN THIS IS THE RULESET FOR YOU

A couple days ago, myself and some friends played Risk, the classic military strategy board game. Except we don't know how to play and didn't have much time so we kinda just. Skimmed over the rule book. And made it up as we went along. We kept coming back to it and playing it over the next few days and just kept coming up with ideas and so I decided to write them out and expand em a little. I've attached a google doc below with it. Comments are on so if you wanna, you can leave suggestions or tell me what you think or just drop me an ask here on Tumblr if you prefer. Probably gonna come back to it with improvements and illustations. I'm a little proud of it ngl

was in the car with my friend when I saw the car we passed had the license plate "SADNESS" and I went oh wait we gotta slow down so I can get a pic, but every time we went slower the other car also slowed down. so I looked behind us to see what was going on and the passenger also had their phone up and wheezing the same way I was, and that's when I remembered my friend's license plate is "LOSSJPG"

you think I would do that? just go on the internet and tell lies?

I was just explaining how I saw “To Wong Fu,” in the theaters as a 17 year old with a bunch of highschool friends and absolutely nobody was scandalized. This drag panic is entirely orchestrated and much ado about nothing.

I mean, somebody’s going to mention Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie, or Flip Wilson as Geraldine, but way back in the fifties, Milton Berle was on Texaco Star Theater and your grandparents or great-grandparents loved it.

A reminder that drag is old. It's so old it's ridiculous. Drag has been done in theater since the beginning of theater. And sometimes those characters are supposed to be another gender [Peter Pan is usually played by a small adult woman, and Edna Turnblad from Hairspray is famously a woman's role that's supposed to be cast with a drag queen]. Sometimes it's just a part of the show. [Some Like It Hot, where the two male characters are disguised as women to hide from the mob, and one ends the movie with a wealthy man] Drag queens as a trope have always been sassy, world-weary, and absolutely confident in themselves and their ability to attract men. Hell, sometimes the joke is that they're [deliberately] making a straight male character uncomfortable and we're supposed to be laughing at the straight male's discomfort. Law & Order has shown drag queens for decades with asshole detectives referring to them as "ma'am" when they're in drag even as they're trying to avoid the sequins.

This rhetoric is frightening because of how quickly the neo-fascist movements in the US have managed to get it to take hold.

beastly reminder

Almost. Years ago my computer suddenly stopped working and lost everything on it. Fortunately a relatively recent backup still existed bc of my family, a recent parts switch, and dumb luck. But last year a friend of mine got hacked and lost close to everything he had done creatively in the last 17-ish years. Art. Novels in progress. Entire conlangs. DnD character Sheets. Music he had made. All gone. He never backed any of it up. Few months later I started this habit (or ritual, almost) of drawing a reminder beast any time I would make a full complete backup. In hopes that seeing these things might remind others and myself. (Another factor here is that I am an animator and some of the stuff on my computer took literal years to make. And the film university I go to urges us to take this stuff seriously, too.)

why do i never see anybody talk about how problematic birthdays are? :/ it's like aging up a fictional character — which we've already established is bad — but in this case it's worse, because it's a real life person.

and the fact that people literally throw parties over this? like they think that a person being aged up is something to celebrate? it's literally so problematic wtf is wrong with you guys.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

the fact that pro-monarchy arguments have degenerated, over the past few centuries, from “the king rules by divine right and is accountable to nobody but god”, to “uhm the royals generate a lot of income from tourism” will never stop being extremely funny to me

the monarchs… bad. but the castles? oh, the castles are positively lush with rats… 👅

no but that's a different way of reaching blue than the normal way. rather than being pigmented, the physical material structure of the feathers is made up of effectively a keratin sponge full of small air pockets, and when white light strikes those pockets, most wavelengths of visual light cancel each other out, while blue is able to reflect and escape the structure.

so if you really fucked up a Bluejays feather what colour would it be

The natural pigmentation of blue jay feathers is brown, though I suppose it depends on how you fucked it up. I suspect that, being made of keratin, it would be an off-white if you were to grind it into a fine enough powder (speculation because I don't want to do research it's like midnight).

cool as hell! The link there is to the Yosemite park page on this.

I really want to like this video, but we have giant isopods (Bathynomus giganteus) at our local aquarium and I learned about their stressed behaviors and the poor fella is hella stressed. Giant isopods they only move to eat or escape predators because they need to conserve energy. Two of them were swimming which means they're probably quite stressed.

Plus taking them out of the water is the biggest problem here because the live in extremely cold water so it's probably also overheating. Hell, oceanic hermit crabs try to escape your hand's warmth even if you're holding them under water and they live in relatively warm water in comparison to giant isopods.

Educating children and introducing them to oceanic life is important, but not at the cost of the animal's comfort and safety.

Gosh! That’s horrid, I had no idea! D:

If you're wondering what proper giant isopod education and interaction entails and maybe need a pick me up, the Monterey Bay aquarium has a monitored touchpool with 4 isopods to gently pet so no one isopod gets too stressed, the water is absolutely frigid (which also helps with keeping people from bothering them too much) and they are never picked up, unless it's by a trained individual. They feel like sandpaper btw.

They're my favorite aquarium because I am biased and because they help do research on the animals they keep. When possible they try to rescue animals and only keep ones that are unreleasable and/or breed them so they aren't pulling animals from the wild as much as possible and because captive bred animals experience less stress in displays.

Once again a win for Monterey Bay Aquarium! Good for them and good for their isopods. :>

This is fascinating and I love the part with the mushrooms and the worms if this really works but my favorite part is that we spent decades like “oh no....oil is soaking into fur and feathers....if only we had something that could soak up all this oil”
