In Luke’s defense, the studio is very boring when Julie’s gone and the school day is really far too long. He tells her as much, right after she slams her locker in his face.
She rolls her eyes. “Luke, it’s only six hours.”
“Yeah, which is ridiculous! Do you know how long that feels like? Hell, that’s like 150 years in Dark-Room time. Which was probably Hell, the more I think about it. Definitely felt like it. So one school day, that’s the equivalent of 150 boring, agonizing, awful, boring years in Hell — ”
He can tell she’s trying so hard not to laugh as she pulls out her phone. Her brow is furrowed in concentration, but her lips betray her. They tug up rebelliously at the corners. There’s a little dimple on the corner of her chin- Luke can confidently say it’s one of the cutest things he’s ever seen. “You said boring twice.”
“Exactly. It’s so boring I can’t even think of more interesting words to describe it with.”
“Tedious,” she supplies. “Dull. Repetitive, monotonous. Torturous.” She turns to him with that wicked smile. “Aren’t you supposed to be a songwriter, Luke?”
