Welcome to Defiance. Posts about SyFy's tv series Defiance. Tracking defianceedit.

Happy 10 years to Defiance!

This wonderful show gave me endless joy and I miss it so much. Stahma and Datak remain two of my favorite characters ever made. They were such messy, lovable people, watching them create chaos was so fun. I ship the hell out of them because they’re both so awful they deserve each other.

Doc Yewll is another character I love. She was full of sass and absolutely hilarious. I choose to believe she was just fine at the end.

Alak, Amanda, Christie, Tommy, and Irisa also earned my love for being such fantastic characters.

I like to think from time to time about a fourth season. Seeing what else they could have come up with lives rent free in my head. Still feel like we needed more flashbacks to the start of the town and to witness Stahma shove her betrothed out of the air lock.

The show may be over but I’ll always remember the great times I had watching every week, waiting impatiently for the new season to start, and worrying about Datak & Stahma’s survival. They made it to the end!

I still haven’t completely forgiven Syfy for cancelling it. Three seasons was not enough to explore the rich universe this show had.

I love this show so much! I am so grateful for all the hard work the writers and actors put in to make this show so amazing. ❤️

G'evening, Sir, I was wondering if you have the full translation of Kalagyi Anaila Kaziri, the song from the Defiance series soundtrack (season 1)? Tried to look it up, but the only note I found was Bear McCreary saying the lyrics contained spoilers, but it's been a few years now...

I believe it's here. As a reminder, you can find all the work I do here. I don't even bother with HTML or CSS: I just dump. It's organized by show, season, type, etc. All the songs I did for Defiance are there.

Defiance Appreciation Day/Week is returning this year!

It’s the 10th anniversary of Defiance’s pilot episode on April 15th, and a few people expressed interest in doing something to celebrate, so let's do it!

I’m going to be be very unstructured about this because I know everyone has different interests, availability, and talents, so some ideas for the day are:

  • A gif set or photo set celebrating the pilot, the first season, or the entire show
  • A text post about what you loved about the show or simply "Happy 10 years, Defiance!"
  • A fic, any fic. If you write Defiance fic, that’s amazing! Any character, any relationship. Drabbles are only 100 words and could be a fun little thing to do. (If anyone is interested in prompts, I can probably do some Defiance themed prompts - let me know)
  • Draw something, whatever inspires you
  • Or anything else you can think of!

April 15th is the day, but if you can't make a post on the day, don't worry. Feel free to post whenever you have time. We'll all be happy to see new posts on the 17th or 23rd or later too!

Hello, hello!

I was wondering if you could possibly help with something?

I'm super curious as to how you'd say "her" & "wit" from the Castithan language from Defiance!

Avatar

Well, "wit" is uláspo, but "her" can be a possessive adjective or an objective pronoun, so I don't know which one you mean. Either way, you wouldn't say it. Castithan is kind of pronoun-averse—especially third person. You generally don't say "his", "her", "its", "their"... If you know you're talking about someone, you wouldn't say, "I admire her wit", but "I admire the wit", and everyone would know you meant her wit. Even objective pronouns are kind of assumed. Basically, you structure sentences so you don't really need/say pronouns, outside the Flood Form, which is a whole different register. You can see tosn of examples here. If you think about what you want to say and review some Castithan dialogue, I think you'll be able to see how you can reword it to avoid saying "her".

Hey, for those who are interested, @quothalinguist and I have opened a RedBubble store with products featuring our LangTime Studio languages, plus some of the other languages we've created for other projects (e.g. Defiance and Dune). Take a look! There's some stuff there we're pretty proud of. :)
