ohmygod that britney’s shameless

@maybeigotwithsophie

I don't know but Bruno madrigal reminds me so much of Anne Boleyn, and it's driving me insane, so here's a comparison of the two

  • both of them are color-coded green.
  • their personalities and physical descriptions have been altered so much that they're seen as these evil devious bastards that like to do harm, even when they're actually innocent of everything they're accused of.
  • they said/joked about something that was in very poor taste and ended up creating a hurricane (literally and metaphorically) that made their already bad reputation even worse.
  • they changed people's perception of them via a musical number

NYTW Hadestown Slime moments that made me feel some kind of way

that BIG DANG KISS at the end of epic I

Orpheus putting himself between Eurydice and the Fates during Way Down Hadestown I

Orpheus wearing Hermes’ hat! <3

Hades went to kiss Persephone and she pulled away. 🥺

Eurydice was looking for Orpheus during Little Songbird.

The way Hermes berated Orpheus; I GUESS YOU WEREn’T LIstENING

Damon’s voice when he sang the first Wait for Me crescendo.

Wait for Me had me in tears.

Eurydice danced around the stage in All I’ve Ever Known, and it was super adorable. She’s so in love <3

Orpheus suddenly coming into view at the end of her song just to reassure her her he will always be there. Like… oh my gosh.

THEIR HUG <3 <3 <3

Wedding Song was gorgeous, though I do wish they’d had the big twirl in it from that clip I’ve seen on the official NYTW page.

Also, thank you for not doing the weird *scene* before All I’ve Ever Known. I don’t like any rendition of the Orpheus/Eurydice “as lovers” moment so I preferred it when it’s more subtle and delicate, and clean. It also helps to show Orpheus and Eurydice fell in love before they’re lovers which I liked.

Flowers had me crying ok, that was the saddest version of Flowers to date.

Come Home with Me II 💔💔 Nabiya stop making me cry.

Damon said “yes I can,” and I was so touched. Orpheus, you ridiculous, hopeful boy.

If It’s True was even sadder live. Just, the grief in Damon’s voice is so real. I can’t. “Take these hands….” ugh. </3

Damon’s Orpheus deserves an award.

I do wish this production had miners just so I could see Damon!Orpheus try to fight his way out around Hades’ workers. But they did a good job utilizing the Fates for that scene so I’m happy with it.

“Come home with me. Come home. Please come home.” *cries*

Epic III was nail-biting good. It’s a small stage, a king sitting, listening, and a boy with his guitar, and nothing else, and it got me so tense.

The aggressive way Orpheus plinks out that first note.

“Heavy and hard is the heart of a King.”

“but Even that hardest of hearts Unhardened suddenly when he saw her there. P~ersepho~ne in her mother’s garden, sun on her shoulders, wind in her hair.”

Epic III is so beautiful guys. It makes me feel all the feels.

Persephone and Hades are so broken and so in love and I’m so sad.

Not gonna lie, NYTW Chant II is still better than Broadway Chant reprise.

“Love was when he came to me, begging on his bended knee to please have pity on his heart. I let him lay me in the dirt.”

ONE, TWO, IS IT TRUE?

“I know the way. I promise.”

Eurydice’s smile there…. 🥺

“You’re early.”

“I missed you.”

While focused more on flair than historical I have to admit I adore the costumes of the musical. Especially the use of color theory, the musical is no novice when it comes to its very intentional use of red throughout the show but I want to talk about more. Specifically the final outfits Christian and Satine have for the last leg of act two

Christians primary colors are blues, from a bright robins egg to the dark purples of his first overcoat and scarf. It usually is paired with a black/grey waistcoat and dark blue pants. As the musical goes on he starts getting darker and darker in his clothing, his shirt starts to change entirely. By the end he’s in reds and blacks almost entirely. Roxanne he has a red striped shirt and a black leather trench-coat. This is also his lowest point, he is burried in desire, jealousy, confusion and confusion.

Satines final dress is stunning. It’s sort of illuminaient in three different colors at once. It’s her feelings and the feelings Christian (and the Duke) project onto her. Black and blue are her own colors but then it’s still retained the deep crimson of her Roxane dress. It also shines green- as I feel like the audience (and some actors) tend to forget Christian is still absolutely out of his mind drunk. The feelings are intensified, swirling and confusing one for the other- just as she’s equally caught in a world wind of progressing disease and the dukes rein.

Ashley Norton’s exhaustive accounting of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Cinderella debacle(s) is quite the watch! Musical theatre is a giant blindspot in my knowledge, so having someone so witty and passionate as a guide to these events was helpful. But in addition, the sheer gall of the preening Lord himself to advocate for West End workers while really finding fault with COVID-policies because it impacted his profits…look, this is quite the journey.

Give it a watch.

I know that the musical theater fandom has kinda moved on at this point, but personally have not moved on from Bad Cinderella and the fact that it had GENUINE POTENTIAL no, no listen, look at me, don’t run away—

So many ideas. Not enough energy or time.

Bad Cinderella rewrite but Cinderella is crustpunk and the act that ruins the town's tourism is her sleeping on a public bench. After that, all scenes in the same place have benches with anti-homeless features.

WHERE is the originality. They saw things that Hamilton and Wicked are praised for and did them mediocre and thought it would land well with today's audience. If you're going to shut down Phantom at least replace it with shows by younger up and coming show writers

listening to cinderella west end cast recording for the first time. The instrumental at the beginning of Act 2 Scene 2 (Sebastian’s Got a Bride????) is the best piece of musical in the whole show? ALW should stick to his orchestra/classical scores.

is it just me or did andrew lloyd webbers piece for the coronation sound exactly like a combination of two songs from bad cinderella

Im not really fond of this new wave of Broadway musicals, like.. K pop musical and Bad Cinderella barely survived a year and I was sooo hyped for Once upon a one more time since I love Britney, but the songs are so mid it hurts

I can only hope they won't push this glittery nightmare on Rebecca

watching all the negative bad cinderella reviews roll in and I just

on one hand, this PERFECTLY demonstrates how outdated opinions of old-school theatergoers can dominate the critic industry and change public opinion just because they’re not open to different content presented in modern musicals. we’ve seen the way original shows that promote diversity and new ideas close down within months, if not literal weeks or days, due to lack of interest leading to financial strain—and a BIG part of that comes from negative reception. it’s time for modern musicals to begin to take over broadway and keep newer generations coming to theaters, and that’s nearly impossible to do if those controlling the media’s reviews of these shows are the exact same people from the same walks of life and same opinions on theater. if this continues, it will be SO incredibly hard to incite a successful change in the broadway industry, and as a result, there will never be a change in the stories that are told or the way in which they are portrayed. we are looking at a future that suggests the age of creativity and improvement of diversity on broadway is over.

on the other hand, it really does look like a shit musical lol
