Sit back and let the Pinwheel Galaxy hypnotize you!

Different telescopes work together to provide a full picture of what is happening in the galaxy. The Hubble Space Telescope traces the visible (optical) light from stars in the spiral arms, while the Spitzer Space Telescope reveals dust lanes where stars are still forming. The Chandra X-ray Observatory reveals the hottest areas due to exploded stars, superheated gas, and material falling in toward the central black hole.
