a car goes full speed off a cliff and explodes at the bottom and when the smoke clears it's actually just perfectly parallel parked

a second car somewhere in the world perfectly parallel parks and when you think the car is finally aligned it spontaneously combusts and explodes

the law of equivalent exchange

The world is a terrifying place but at least the erupting volcano of Mayon is waking the ancients to remind us of our place

Quick note: original art is by Kerby Rosanes

Link to the original post here on the artist’s IG

Another note: This is in reference to the Filipino legend from Albay called “Daragang Magayon” [literally translated into “beautiful maiden”, with “daraga” meaning “maiden” and “magayon” meaning “beautiful”]

She’s a folk heroine, whose love story can be read here

It is said that her lover, Panganoron, is the clouds that surround Mt. Mayon’s peak, while she is herself the volcano, which has always been seen as remarkably beautiful in shape

It’s said that the volcano grew where they were buried together

Which is why the shape of two lovers seen in the smoke of its most recent eruption is so culturally significant.

And really, really cool.

This legend reminds me of the Mexica legend of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl 🥲 it’s so beautiful and sad as well, and is also about the origins of a volcano.

Can we please make the deep sea the next cool desirable “final frontier” pretty please. I want Elon Musk to design a horrible Tesla Brand submarine and go down to map the Mariana’s Trench for commercial development and watch it crumple like a tin can the second it reaches 200 meters

you know those posts talking about how theres probably a poem somewhere in the image of glow in the dark stars being painted over in landlord white etc? thats how i feel about the submarine filled with rich people that was lost while journeying to the wreck of the titanic. it just feels cyclical, a tragedy turned into a spectacle, turned into a tragedy, turned into a spectacle again. and also about how 39% of first class passengers died aboard the titanic while 76% of third class passengers died. about how a migrant vessel off the coast of Greece sank with hundreds feared dead while help was denied at every turn and how the whole world is rallying to the cause of the missing titan. about how the titanic was often hailed as unsinkable, about the arrogance of power and the lower class bodies left in its wake.

To expand on the crumbling of the patriarchal edifice of the family.

If society agrees that children can know themselves, and have a right to self determination…. Everything else that Conservatives argue they have a right to exert over children crumbles. As just two examples….

ALL corporal punishment rightfully becomes recognised for the assault it is.

Failure to appropriately consider the wishes of children in medical care and provide information in an age appropriate way is recognised as child abuse and malpractice.

Children are entire people, they deserve all of the rights, privileges and protections afforded to adults.

the ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ has only been actually typed once by a single person, everyone else who has ever used it has just googled “shrug emoji” and copy-pasted it

why repaint the mona lisa

This sounds scary, but then you remember that Mae has a 0/4 win-loss ratio and has been chased out of China, India, China again, and Japan with her tails figuratively between her legs

she’s just gonna get hospitalized with covid and cry about how she was totally gonna take over all of Asia this time for real definitely

“Going 0 for 4” is a pretty optimistic way to describe causing chaos and misery for like 3000 years across three different countries, every time achieving power and prestige until finally exposed, and three times getting away and doing it again. Even after they finally killed her Japan was plunged into a civil war.

Love that they put “a sense of impending doom” as one of the symptoms of a heart attack, like girl, that’s just how it is to be alive these days, you’re gonna have to be more specific

This made me chuckle but after scrolling away I felt the need to come back to it.

Because as someone who has felt this I can not stress how different it actually is from anxiety. Which is saying a lot because I have a massive anxiety disorder.

I've only felt this twice in my life - once when I was going into kidney failure due to an infection and again when my body was going into shock due to dehydration and malnourishment due to GI issues - and I can not stress how much it saved my life. It's hard to even put it into words. It's not like a panic attack, or anxiety. It is a horrific gut turning feeling of absolute dread.

Especially if you have anxiety you'll know the difference honestly. It's so much worse. It's every cell in your body and your brain screaming that there's something horribly wrong in a way you've never felt. It's your brain screaming out that you are going to die in a way no panic attack has ever done before.

I can not stress how important it is to get yourself to the ER if you feel this way. Especially if your having other physical symptoms.

This is amazing and incredibly helpful, oh my god. Thank you.

I think people need to be more comfortable with illegalism and I’m not kidding. Of course the more legal something is, the safer and easier it is to do, but the more people who disregard the law, the harder it is to enforce. There are plenty of laws on the books that people just ignore and are never or rarely policed.

Becoming more comfortable with little illegal activities makes you more comfortable with bigger more important illegal activities. Additionally, it is crucial to build a wall of silence. Nobody talks everybody walks.

People who give out food without a permit, hold a march without a permit, grow a garden without a permit, are more likely to be people you could turn to to work with on preventing an eviction, or keeping people out of cop hands, or helping your friend Jane get crucial healthcare when it’s not legal in your state.

Communities comfortable with these acts won’t call the cops, and then nobody knows that it’s happening.

People have got to shift from both the idea that lawful = good/ illegal = bad, and that the illegality of something means that’s the end of it, and the only fight left is to make it legal again.

Absolutely the most dangerous thing about liberals from an organizing perspective is their moralism about law and what they deem the acceptable ways of breaking them for political purposes. In my experience this is a good example of how "apolitical"/lumpen people are very often more prepared to support us than "progressives."

the “i am from russia” was a warning

I asked a taxi driver in Bucharest to take the quickest route to the airport. 10 minutes later we're doing 120kph the wrong way done the street car tracks when another taxi tried to pass us and dude just floors it. Never spoke a word, smoked 9 cigarettes over the 30 minute ride, never took off his sunglasses and blasting opera all the way. I look at it as paying 15€ plús tip to lose all fear of death.

Having lived in Bucharest I can tell you he would have done that even with out you asking
