“why would we make plans in front of you if you weren’t invited?” babe i was left out of everything growing up, i need 100% confirmation you want me there or i simply will not go
this is a losing battle but I wish people would realize that gimli was aware of how fucked up moria probably was. him and gloin address this from the start, back in rivendell: they talk multiple times about how they've lost contact with those in moria and they fear evil things. the whole lead up to going through moria is interspersed with descriptions of how deeply important khazad-dum and the mountains it's set in is to the dwarves, even in its darkness and abandonment. then when gandalf proposes the idea we get this line: "only Gimli lifted up his head; a smouldering fire was in his eyes" -- nothing about this speaks to naivety or foolhardiness or ignorance as to moria's situation, this is gimli looking clearly and the choices and dangers and deciding that, for him, moria is the path he wants to take, both because he feels it's the only choice left to them (they'd tried the pass over the mountains (in winter!) and it had gone badly, so he genuinely believed it was the best path to take!) and -- despite the ruin & sorrow he expects there -- it's meaningful for him to go there. this is spelled out explicitly by galadriel two chapters later:
"Do not repent of your welcome to the Dwarf. If our folk had been exiled long and far from Lothlórien, who of the Galadhrim, even Celeborn the Wise, would pass nigh and would not wish to look upon their ancient home, though it had become an abode of dragons?"
I wish more people would get this not just because it's annoying but also because it's such an important element of his character, that he's sharply aware of his actions and choices, and their consequences, even as he feels them so strongly, and likewise that to him, that sort of grief and loss is ultimately worth facing & experiencing despite everything -- and that this is portrayed within the text as a meaningful choice that's worthy of respect and understanding
Two people were arrested earlier today in Edinburgh. One for shouting “who elected him?” at the proclamation of King Charles, and one for holding a sign saying “fuck imperialism, abolish the monarchy”
Just two be clear, two people were arrested in Scotland in the UK for publicly expressing they did not agree with the appointment of a new unelected head of state
CORRECTION: One person was arrested in Edinburgh (the one with the sign) and the other was arrested in Oxford.
If anyone ever acts like the royal family has no power over this country, here's your reminder they very much do as people aren't even allowed to say what they think on the monarchy without being arrested right now by police.
“We chose the term “asexual” to describe ourselves because both “celibate” and “anti-sexual” have connotations we wished to avoid: the first implies that one has sacrificed sexuality for some higher good, the second that sexuality is degrading or somehow inherently bad. “Asexual”, as we use it, does not mean “without sex” but “relating sexually to no one”. This does not, of course, exclude masturbation but implies that if one has sexual feelings they do not require another person for their expression. Asexuality is, simply, self-contained sexuality.”
Note the date, people:
That’s 1972
29 years before AVEN was started online,
and 47 years before the present.
And that’s only the date that Manifesto was written, so asexuals as members of a community must have existed at least some time before that.
So, no: we are not just Tumblr trenders. Get out of here with that.
supporting my asexual friends and foes by rebbloging this
It’s 50 years this month since the first version of the Asexual Manifesto was written. Aces have been writing about our experiences under this name for at least half a century. We are not an internet fad.

“I’ve got four children who are girls, so I’m familiar with the looking after of girl children. And although Obi’s not a father, that’s what she (Leia) brings out of him through the arc of our series. A more paternal sense to him that life isn’t just about living by the book.”

“I think Mace [Windu] is a well thought-out character who has the trust of a lot of people throughout the universe.
It’s important to have characters that people can look at and see that they’ve made a decision to be right. Now we have a lot of antiheroes, and I’ve played a lot of them, but there’s something to be said for the pure, unadulterated good guy.”

Police are on the lookout for two violent antifa activists who disrupted a peaceful Alt Right rally in Illinois. They were last seen 106 miles from Chicago, they had half a tank of gas, a pack of cigarettes, it was dark, and they were wearing sunglasses.
What is your Hogwarts house?
I stopped having one when JKR perished in the flames of transphobia, alas.
anyone whos been an artist before with artblock knows what its like whenever wizards lose their magic in stories like physically i know it looks like im just sitting here staring angry at a sheet of paper but in the spiritual sense i am pointing a wand that is fizzling and cracking in a very dangerous manner only for it to make a pathetic woopie cushion sound and then go limp
have you ever seen the mirialan lore masterpost floating around? seems up your alley

It seems like you only like WoT for the queer content and not for the actual story. Hope I’m wrong cause I really like your blog.
i’ve been gay for siuan sanche since i was ten, so
I can't stand people only like WoT for its "queer content" (ignore my url)
I only like WoT for its multiple storylines which involve elaborate unsafe homoerotic BDSM scenerios (again ignore my url)
Saw someone say this recently and wanted to echo it…
How many Jedi have to be “different than the other Jedi” for us to collectively come to the conclusion that Jedi are just like that?
Like honestly every Jedi we see on screen except for like 3 are supposedly “different.”
Also while we’re on the subject, no where did Luke say “iM gOiNg To FiX tHe JeDi.” Nor did Yoda or Obi-Wan tell him to. Luke follows the same principles the old Jedi did.
This was something *some* Legends stories and fans came up with to explain why Luke allowed his Jedi to marry, because spoilers, those stories came out before Lucas fully showed us the Jedi. And as if an organization not allowing marriage makes it inherently flawed. That’s just how some chose to live their lives. (And yeah I know there’s more to the argument, but that’s not where I’m going with this)
The Jedi Order are not supposed to be the “misguided/flawed institution with some good members” trope. They are the underdogs essentially, frustrated with the Republic which *has* become that trope.
Also anytime a Sith or villain says something about how the Jedi are bad… that’s what villains do. They obviously don’t believe the same things as the heroes so it makes sense they’d think and say different things. But also, a lot of the villains of Star Wars use clear manipulation and propaganda. Palpatine literally twists Anakin’s mind, ego stroking him, setting him up in situations he knows the Jedi will respond to with hesitance, and lie to Anakin about why they did it, making Anakin believe it. It’s just manipulation. It’s also how a lot of fascist regimes start in the first place is by scapegoating, lying, etc.
#i want to add that “different from other Jedi” simply isn’t in the text of the films or TCW#EXCEPT when it is explicitly spelled out (i.e. a character says outloud that a Jedi is not acting like a Jedi)#and in each of those cases “not acting like the other Jedi” is a negative reflection on the individual referred to not the Jedi#ex: Anakin after killing the Tuskens: “I’m a Jedi I know I’m better than this”#Anakin in ROTS: “I’m not the Jedi I should be”#in TCW - Fives: “[Krell] isn’t acting like the other Jedi”#a Jedi being un-Jedi-like is not treated as a good thing by the narrative#it usually means they’ve murdered/will soon murder a lot of people -jedi-order-apologist
Also, not only is the Jedi Order not supposed to represent the “misguided/flawed institution with some good members” trope, but they are directly representative of minority cultures and how they are scapegoated by corrupt government institutions. Minority cultures are frequently targeted by misinformation campaigns and propaganda. The corrupt people in power will often use the people from that culture who are desperately trying to flog themselves to gain acceptance, as a way to further spread the idea that the cultural institution as a whole is corrupt and that they are “only targeting a corrupt system, not the people!” (ex. antisemitic propaganda saying anitzionism isn’t antisemitism)
So, with that in mind, it makes it even more disturbing and annoying to see people push the “not like other Jedi” narrative.
I think folks also miss the fact that Luke is likely going to have to do things differently from the old order simply because of feasibility and practicality. It doesn’t mean he necessarily disagrees with the old Order. He just can’t do it that way.
The big example that comes to mind is the creche system. The creche system, by and large, makes a lot of sense. The Old Order was able to protect a lot of force sensitive children and give them training and support from a very young age. That’s not a bad thing. I think Luke is walking proof that the creche isn’t, and shouldn’t, be the ONLY way to raise a Jedi. But it’s a pretty decent set up.
But Luke, at least as of Book of Boba Fett, has no possible way of recreating the creche system. He doesn’t have the resources. He doesn’t have the staff. He doesn’t have the kids! And as we saw with Grogu, an infant is a LOT of work. If Luke wants to raise Jedi children from birth or early childhood, he’s only going to be able to manage one or two at a time. (And some non-humans, like Grogu, may be infants for decades!)
That doesn’t mean he thinks the creche is bad. It’s just not an option.
The marriage restriction may or may not be similar. Assuming there are force-trained survivors out there that can be recruited to help teach the new generation, they’ll have spent decades living outside of the Order’s restrictions. Some, like Ahsoka, may have kept to a monastic life. But others, like Kanan (if he were still alive) or maybe Ezra (if he turns up again) wouldn’t have.
It may be that Luke’s going to have to decide whether to keep the restrictions or expand his Order to include these other potential members, and their knowledge and experience. It doesn’t mean that the reasoning behind the marriage restrictions are wrong, (as we see with Anakin and Padme), but he can’t afford to be as restrictive. He may have to trust and hope that these other possible members are able to maintain their balance within these relationships, even if Anakin couldn’t.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Luke did disagree with some things the old Order did. That’s only natural. He comes from a different background and has had different experiences. But the changes he makes aren’t necessarily a value judgment against the old Order. It’s just a reflection of a different time and circumstance.
Good point. It would make sense Luke can’t adhere to all the old principles just yet, he’s gotta work his way there. Plus yeah, he certainly had a much different upbringing than other Jedi.
Necromancy but like…catholic. Skeletons polished to a marble-like perfection, or filigreed in gold. Zombies with wounds that bleed light or molten metal, and have strangely peaceful expressions despite potentially horrific injury. Anything reanimated gets a halo and the sound of an otherworldly chorus leaks from their presence.
Settings love having Necromancy be spooky or evil but actually this time it’s borderline required, like The God explicitly instructed you on how to do it and it works through holy power.
