When we worked here together, we fought, scratched, and clawed to make people’s lives a tiny bit better. That’s what public service is all about: small, incremental change every day. Teddy Roosevelt once said ‘Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is a chance to work hard at work worth doing.’ And I would add that what makes work worth doing is getting to do it with people that you love. I started my career more than thirty years ago in the Parks and Recreation department right here in Pawnee, Indiana. I had a lot of different jobs, including two terms as your governor. And soon, a new, unknown challenge awaits me which to me, even now, is thrilling because I love the work. Not to say that public service isn’t sexy because it definitely is, but that’s not why we do it. We do it because we get the chance to work hard at work worth doing, alongside a team of people who we love. So I thank those people who walked with me and I thank you for this honor. Now, go find your team and get to work

just thinking about how sad and humiliated and betrayed hillary clinton must be feeling right now breaks my heart. she devoted 40 years of her life to her country but still people chose a man who picked up politics as a hobby last year over her. i’m so sad and i wish i could hug her

My mom said this to me on the phone and it’s true: They would have tortured her as President.  They would have tortured her probably to the grave.

And she knew this.  She knows what happens during a presidency, how a person ages, how cruel things get.  She knows it better than most people in the world.  And she would have taken it for us.  She would have done it, she would have fought the good fight no matter how much it damaged her.

I’m mostly sad for my country but I am also sad for Hillary.  They haven’t ever treated her fairly, from the time she got harassed in interviews for keeping her last name as the governor’s wife.  They mocked and harassed and tormented her for decades, but she never stopped fighting for us.

Thank you, Hillary.  Thank you for trying.  In the face of everything, most people would have given up.  She didn’t give up.

FlameCon 2016 - Designing X-Women II: Fashion Apocalypse!

I hope to write a more thorough post about FlameCon 2, but for now here are my redesigns for the fashion panel I was lucky enough to be a part of this year.  We did the panel last year as well and redesigned Kitty Pryde, and as with all sequels, this year we added more panelists and tackled a harder character: Emma Frost.

I pretty unabashedly copied one of Solange’s wedding outfits as my inspiration for my Emma design.  I knew I wanted to put her in pants and a cape(let?) and find some kind of mix of sexy and chic.  Of course, I had to switch up her hair too.  It’s 2016 - time to stop giving female characters nondescript pin straight long hair.

For my redesign of choice, I dusted off an old Jubilee sketch I messed around with from awhile ago.  I love how so many classic costumes in the 90s mixed uniforms with casual garments, so for Jubilee I switched up her iconic trench coat with a more modern yellow hoodie.  My favorite part would have to be her hot pink buzz cut, though ;).
