I’ve been playing so many RPG-Maker games lately so I’m gonna make a little recommendation posts for my own reference, and for anyone who’s interested.

  • Flesh Child - It’s an exploration-based game in the very early stages of development so there’s only two areas accessible, but what’s there is very original and very interesting (and fairly disturbing too).
  • Yume Nikki - I know everyone already knows about Yume Nikki, but I’ll list it anyway. It’s huge and it’s beautiful, and it’s inspiring enough to have a whole wiki devoted to the fan-games it’s spawned.
  • .flow - A pretty popular Yume Nikki fangame, with much more emphasis on horror than that game. Still focuses on exploring a surreal dreamscape to find effects, but it’s a little more lucid and outwardly scary. There’s a few jump scares, but most of its horror comes from the absence in between. Some great pixel art and character designs too.
  • Ib - A story-driven horror adventure about a little girl who gets lost in a museum, where the way you interact with the other characters drastically changes the outcome of the story. Some good puzzles and memorable characters.
  • Lisa - A big trigger warning on this one, and the only one I would say I didn’t actually enjoy. Because you aren’t meant to enjoy it. It’s meant to be disturbing and upsetting, and it’s very good at it. It’s not quite horror and there’s no jump scares, but it’ll leave you feeling uneasy for a while.
  • The Mirror Lied - An abstract story that leaves so much open to interpretation, I don’t think I can even summarize it. It’s very short though, and it’s worth checking out.
  • To the Moon - By the same people as The Mirror Lied, but much more straight-forward and, I think, more enjoyable. Some extremely well-written dialogue makes the characters feel very real, and it even made me cry. It’s the only game here that costs money, but I think it’s worth the price. The link leads to a trailer that summarizes it well.
  • Penpals - A cute and short (yet deceptively unsettling at times) game that’s been floating around tumblr. The art is great and it’s full of weird little bits of personal wisdom.
  • Schuld - A horror-action game where you start off as a man wandering through a dying world in which human limbs are the only thing of any value, and it only gets weirder from there.
  • OFF - The link describes OFF far better than I ever could, but if I could only recommend one game here, it’d be OFF. Probably the largest amount of original content I’ve ever seen in an RPG-Maker game, it’s an actual turn-based RPG full of great surreal art and some kick-ass music.
  • Misao - Anime-styled mystery game with cute character designs. If you liked the style of games like Ib you’ll like Misao. While the graphics aren’t all that particularly gory, the game is still pretty disturbing and involves collecting body parts as a main goal. Can also sometimes be a little silly.
  • Ao Oni - Another mystery solver but with more of a threat level than Ib or Misao. Involves searching a mansion while also being on alert for a demon who can give chase at any time. Sort of reminds me of Clock Tower.
  • Backstage - Horror-action mystery. Story of a man ultimately trying to figure out his reality and his relationships. He was just using the bathroom and then everything got intense. Trigger warning here for some very mature themes in the plot.
  • Clock of Atonement - Slight trigger warning- you play as a girl’s stalker who has the opportunity to change what happened. Very very short.
  • Mad Father - By the same people who made Misao. A slightly disturbing horror adventure about a little girl trying to help her father. Very nice graphics work, all things considered. Collect all the gems in the game for a special ending.
  • Happy Birthday - Fairly short and fairly new, but a fun mystery game nonetheless. A girl is dead at her birthday party and the female detective on the scene must find out what’s going on.
  • The Longing Ribbon - Horror adventure game where you explore a mansion as a group of lost teenagers. The frustrating battle system is mediated by cheats, and the dialogue options are ridiculous in a humorous way (“:)” says a giant dragon). There’s one exceedingly trippy scene.
  • Miserere - A very moody dream exploration game that’s rather reminiscent of Yume Nikki et al. Best played in the dark, headphones in, etc. “Miserere” is Latin for “have mercy,” fun fact. The mind of a space station’s sole inhabitant.

I always wanted to make a list of all of the RPG Maker horror games, especially since Ib is my top favorite and it’d be awesome if more people tried out these games.

Ib - link The Witch’s House - link Mad Father - link Misao - link The Crooked Man - link Paranoiac - link Re:Kinder - link Mermaid Swamp - link Hello? Hell…o? - link Clock of Atonement - link The Mirror Lied - link Ao Oni - link Corpse Party - link To the Moon - link Schuld - link Desert Nightmare - link OFF - link Divinity Fatum - link Yume Nikki - link

Lets have a very spoopy RPG October! I know I will *3*

okay you guys this is all well and good, but my cookie game is really only the tip of the iceberg of online time-wasting so here are a bunch of other similar (often better) games, compiled from a list someone made on /v/ : (WARNING, these are some serious time-wasters, some of this is way more addicting than Cookie Clicker - DO NOT PLAY IF ALREADY SLEEP-DEPRIVED)

  • Candy Box, which actually inspired me to make Cookie Clicker in the first place. it has dungeons and stuff, I think it’s CHARMING
  • A Dark Room, which is super-rad and surprisingly good-looking for a text game
  • Gold and Gems, pretty much Candy Box with (not very good) graphics and none of the humor
  • that one japanese game with boxes, which is a little tricky to get but pretty fun
  • Ginormo Sword, which is two weeks of my life I’ll never get back. MAKE DA SWORD BIGGER YO
  • Kaguya Table, about flipping tables I think ?
  • BoxCar2D, which seems to be a car-generating genetic algorithm
  • Progress Quest, if you don’t even feel like interacting at all
  • Powder Game, where you spray particles of various materials to create strange new worlds (another favorite of mine, check out the guy’s other games too !)
  • Anti-Idle : the game - I don’t even know
  • Battle Without End - you can cancel your appointments because that’s exactly what it says on the tin

ok I need sleep tho peace out y’all

Some of my favorites:

Cursor*10  - little game where you have several “lives”. you use your cursor to navigate the floors, and when the time runs out, you go back to the beginning. however, the previous cursors will go through the same path they made before, thus allowing you to get further each time.

Daymare Town - creepy point and click game. very inky, interesting drawings. you have to find your way through (or perhaps out of) Daymare Town, which is inhabited by obscure prickly people.

Grid Game - there are a bunch of little circles. click one, and watch it rotate and set off a chain reaction. mindless distraction game.

Samsara Room - a strange escape game where you’re stuck in one room but pass through different dimensions to get out

i saw her standing there - zombie love story. super cute. there’s a sequel too.

Feed the Head - more like interactive art than anything. there are several different things to do in this game.

Factory Balls - a bit of a puzzle game. you have to paint a bunch of balls to match the model shown, using various options and paints.

Grow Nano Vol. 3 - one of my favorites of the Grow series. you have to click the options in the right order in order to make the sick person feel better. this one just warms my heart.

make sure to click the tags to find more games by the creators and companies and the rest of the games in the series!!!

I find Tonypa’s games to be simple, unique, and enjoyable.  A lot of them involve patterns, colors, and matching, so they’re very calming as well.

some from me!!

deep thinking games with exploration themes…

6 differences - a pretty cool find the difference game that’s very atmospheric and somewhat soothing in the first levels, mostly takes place at night around a city, features sound effects and music and even moving cars down the highways. content warning for some surrealism and acid-trippy effects in the later levels (a person with a deer head, some kind of alarming music, the level’s walls moving as you look for the differences, etc - sometimes the level changes after you find all but one clue, and in one instance a train goes by rather suddenly and loudly, but it didn’t make me jump and i am sensitive to jump scares)

i can hold my breath forever - a game about exploring underwater caves in search of a friend. some references to drowning!

i wish i were the moon - short and sweet game about two people and a moon! clone things and move them around to get different endings :3

small words - a soothing platformed-style exploration game that lets you uncover different maps/pictures as you walk around

don’t look back - a creepy game based on the myth of orpheus and eurydice, this is a platformer-style game that has you going to the underworld to get your lover back. very atmospheric, but a slightly creepy atmosphere that (of course) references death, so take care

alight in dreams - during a dream you get wings, and explore the dream to find out about the history of a person who has never dreamed before. mentions death and suicide.

a house in california - explore an old house and learn its history, very atmospheric. can be a bit confusing for some, you may need a walkthrough.

silent conversation - a soothing game that makes levels out of passages of classic books; you win by toughing every word. not my preferred reading material, but the way the levels are built kind of force you to drink it all in stead of speeding through it.

games that are a bit creepy…

prior - you, a little box creature, wake without your memories in an unknown place. you must explore to find your family and figure out what happened before you woke. a dark game with multiple possibilities - can be a little creepy.

immorTall - an alien makes friends with a human family after crashlanding to earth. defend them as long as possible!

loved - a dark sort of game where you go through the levels deciding if you will choose to obey the voice giving you orders or defy it. in some casing obeying makes things easier, but in other cases the voice asks you to make things hard on yourself - throwing yourself onto spikes so you have to start over, etc. sometimes it is almost impossible to do what the voice asks. (serious warning for emotional manipulation, just to be safe - the question at the start will purposefully misgender you depending on your answer, and continue to do so throughout the game, but, depending on your actions, will then correct the mistake at the end.)

one chance - a kind of dark game; in the impending apocalypse you have one chance to decide what to do with the rest of your life. there are many endings, but you really do only have one chance…refreshing the page will not let you play again! content warning for death, suicide, impending doom, hopelessness, etc

every day the same dream - another fatalistic game with multiple endings, but this one allows you to find them all. same warnings as the one above.

elude - a metaphorical representation of depression. dark melancholy levels, nice atmosphere, but can be a little moody.

symon - you play as an elderly man stuck in a hospital bed. you sleep to dream and relive your past. this game is pretty much endless and features endless combinations of the same tasks, to reflect what that sort of life might be like. cw for death and end-life blues.

now for some lighter ones…

pizza king 2 - i found this sim where you run your own pizza shop weirdly addictive. food cw, of course, and it’s the only sim on here because they usually aren’t my thing, but, well.

boomshine & obechi - two colorful games where a well-placed click will start a chain reaction and see how many points you can collect!

filler - a similar concept to the ones above

music bounce - release bouncing balls to hit platforms to get the perfect rhythm!

dropsum & dropsum colors - math games where you combine numbers to eliminate them. you can choose where to drop the numbers, turn the board, and use powerups! (dropsum colors isn’tloading for me rn, but it might for you)

first person tetris - you spin with the tetris blocks! fun for pros, but it can make you dizzy.

flash tron - a recreation of the original tron game as seen in the movies. here you can play with others online!

dolphin olympics - super fun game where you swim and do tricks as a dolphin to score as many points as you can in two minutes. there’s also a freeplay mode. if you jump high enough, you may even see the moon ouo

mirror’s edge 2d - i adore the 3d version of this game for ps3, but if you don’t have access, you can play the mini/2d version. no real story, but it’s a very challenging game with rad animation!

bubble tanks tower defense - pretty fun tower defense game that doesn’t get old too quickly.

bloons - i started playing the tower defense game, but they’re all pretty fun and complex. scroll down a bit and click any of the ones under “bloons games”

elephant games - a sort-of series with gems like “achievement unlocked” & sequels (where there is no objective except to complete all the achievements) and “this is the only level” (where you go through the same level many different ways). you grow to be quite fond of the little guy. :’D

some of these i haven’t played in awhile! i pulled from my bookmarks, because i used to spend all day curating links to these things. if i’ve missed a content warning PLEASE feel free to contact me about it or add it yourself!

Sai Animation Assistant

Because attempting to animate in the purgatory that is a midway between Sai and Photoshop is akin to sawing off your dick with a nail file, I got around to this last week.

The goal is to allow for viewing of wip animations being made in Sai without having to load the project into Photoshop, Flash, or whatever your external timeline of choice is.  Essentially, you export each frame as a .png into a folder and then just overwrite them in the same way when you want to update a frame.

On load it defaults to whatever directory it’s sitting in, but if you want to keep it somewhere else you can select the folder source post-load.

Images are loaded alphabetically, so all of these are valid:

  • a.png, b.png, c.png
  • 1.png, 2.png, 3.png
  • Frame1.png, Frame2.png, Frame3.png.

It runs off .png files because I don’t see why you’d use any other format in 2014.  If anyone desperately wants .jpeg support or something I can add a toggle though.

Image locations are loaded fresh upon each iteration and held within the program so you can add, update and remove frames without stopping it if you want to.  This means you can leave it open on a second monitor and have a looping preview without leaving Sai.

Shit runs on .net 4.5 since C# is cakewalk for stuff like this.

Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter - Rinko Kikuchi

This is a trailer for a film opening in limited theaters right now, which stars Kikuchi (Mako Mori, Pacific Rim) in a role seven years in the making. An office worker feeling trapped, she becomes obsessed with a mysterious videotape which will lead her to treasure.

The film currently has an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, and you can read more about it in her new interview here! She also gives a shout out to Tumblr and the Mako Mori test!

This website is so interesting. You first put down what you feel like you look like, then measure a few places and it tells you where you really are and what your body really looks like and your body shape. It’s so interesting. Below where it says “You are the perfect rectangle” it goes into explaining what that means and outfits that make your body look fantastic and what your “best part” is and how to flaunt it! It’s very cool.

This seems like a very positive site, this made me happy :)

i got 12.5% smaller woot

This is such a wonderful thing

Holy fuck I’m 30% smaller what the hell

I only got 5% smaller but it told me it thinks my body size is pretty & like the perfect 1950’s style so I am flattered.

OKAY GUYS LISTEN UP so there’s this website called slader.com and it has EVERY FUCKING ANSWER TO EVERY TEXTBOOK EVER. It has answers AND shows you ALL the work so you can understand it (or be a slacker). This website has literately saved my calculus grade. It even has free tutors if you need the extra help. Guys, it’s free to register and it will save your life
