Please Help Us Stay Housed!

Hi all, 3 trans girls, living in an overpriced apartment, all disabled and unemployed, during the time of year when all our costs of living are increased and our income is even more sparse.

Rent is coming, and so is a massive electricity bill! And we've been fighting hard to come up with as much as possible but are still far from our goal and have hardly any food money since Biden slashed our ebt

We need to raise $600 to make rent And the electric bill, and we need all the help we can get.

Just $10 from each of half the people who see and boost this post can stack up to our goal!

Please Help Us Not Get Kicked Out during the hottest summer on record! And please help us keep the power on so we don't die of heatstroke!

I’ve seen a few ~aesthetic~ photos of rock stacks in rivers recently and this is just a reminder that you are destroying habitat when you move rocks around in rivers and streams.

In addition to dragonfly nymphs, rocky river beds are home to lots of other larval invertebrates like damselflies, mayflies, water beetles, caddisflies, stoneflies, and a bunch of dipterans. Not to mention lots of fish and amphibians!

Plus large scale rock stacking can change the flow of a stream and lead to increased erosion.

Anyway dragonfly for admiration:

Everything is something’s habitat. You might as well not go outside for fear of stepping on some larval beetle.

This is hugely missing the point. The idea is to enjoy what’s left of our natural spaces while having as little an impact as possible. It’s not difficult to avoid intentionally destroying habitat. I recommend looking into the Leave No Trace principle which is very important for conservation. Cynicism doesn’t help anything.

You can read more about Leave No Trace here.

if u r trans no matter what ur agab and ur gender may be there is a good chance u will have a voice in ur head telling u that u need to lose weight to pass and to have people take u seriously . that is the voice of the DEVIL do NOT LISTEN TO IT !!!!

I find it so absurd that for CENTURIES settlers have done everything they possibly could to destroy indigenous cultures and religions and spirituality under the guise of "saving" us and now they're dealing with the consequences of rejecting their own heritages and religious identities and looking at indigenous people to save them from that.

What absolute fucking bullshit.

While it is kind of ironic, we must remember that the settlers who committed cultural genocide of the Native Americans are not the same people searching for spirituality in native traditions.

And isn’t it a good thing that these traditions are being brought back to life, whereas they might have disappeared from the annals of history?

The unhealthy thing about this phenomenon is in the people who are depending on others for their own salvation, putting everything on the line in the hope that they’ll be satisfied by what they find. The only person that has that responsibility is themselves.

Our traditions don't need to brought to be "brought back to life" by settlers. They aren't dead. We are more than capable of keeping our own cultures alive and thriving without people stealing pieces of them to butcher for their own purposes.

went to miami to recover father sotirios. and made some new friends.

these animals... they are wise. I recruited them to avenge my dear brother. I was then escorted out of the sea world.

Better than the 1596 Marseille dolphin exorcism I suppose.

In 1596 dolphins were infesting the port of Marseille. Back in those days, y’see, dolphins didn’t have the cuddly image they enjoy today. They were pests and were causing damage.

So the cardinal of Avignon sent the bishop of Cavaillon to do something about them. In front of a huge crowd, the bishop sprinkled some holy water into the waters of the port and told the dolphins to begone. Whereupon the dolphins indeed turned tail in terror and fled, and were never seen again.

Still not as dramatic as Saint Bernard excommunicating the flies though.

What happened to the flies?

Saint Bernard of Clairvaux built a monastery in 1124, but it was plagued by flies. So the good saint promptly excommunicated them. By the next day the flied had died in such quantities that they had to be shoveled out.

Still not as nutty as the Basel rooster trial though.

*everyone in unison* um what rooster trial?

In 1474, a rooster in Basel did the heinous and unspeakable act of laying an egg. As everyone knows, an egg laid by a rooster will hatch into a basilisk (or cockatrice).

So to avoid the creation of a cockatrice (or basilisk), the rooster was tried, found guilty, and burned at the stake along with its egg. A huge crowd was present.

The “rooster” in this case was likely a hen that had developed male characteristics (it happens).

Still not as properly legal as the Savigny pig trial though.

Ok, clearly you want an excuse to talk about the pig thing, and I now DESPERATELY want to hear about the pig thing, so PLEASE tell us about the Pig Thing.

In 1457 a sow killed Jehan Martin, a five-year-old boy in Savigny. For that crime she was put on trial and judged guilty, and sentenced to be hanged from a tree.

Her piglets, however, were judged to have been innocent of the murder, and so were returned to the owner, with the caveat that he had to surrender them to the law if they were later found to have eaten any of the boy.

Not to be confused with a whole bunch of other, similar porcine trials.

I won’t mention the 1454 excommunication of eels in Lake Geneva then.

the seaquarium of miami banned me from visiting for life if anyone even cares.
