one thing thats really interesting about the gems as an evil alien race is that despite them being generally femme coded they are not a caricature of an evil matriarchal society, the characteristics that defines them as a species are not those of femminity necesarily even if they are very femmenine in a purely aesthetic sense.

they are cold, calculating, highly hierarchical, not very emotionally intelligent, they seem to respect sheer brute strength above anything else, they are expansionist and colonialist and extremely rigid individually and institutionally. they deem expressions of art such as singing and dancing as superfluous of undignified.

it would have been so easy to make them an amazonian caricature, but the thing that one has to remember about the gems is that they are first and foremost robots, machines of hard light.
