and these five because I'm nosy - 12. favorite well known horror film; 13. favorite under appreciated horror film; 14. favorite "controversial" horror film; 15. favorite re-watchable horror film; 16. favorite un-rewatchable horror film
:-) thank you lol <3
12. Probably either Get Out or A Nightmare on Elm Street. Get Out is a classic that the entire genre has been trying to repeat for years for a REASON and it's still my pick for the best Peele movie <3. And then NOES is just as iconic and did a lot to shape the genre too honestly. But its also just really fun i love Nancy, i love the practical effects and the scary phone. the bed that explodes in a geyser of blood. and the fact that nancy does a home alone chase with freddy. its good.
13. I think Bloody Muscle Bodybuilder in Hell can go up against at least 3 of the canon Evil Dead movies in terms of Greatness honestly. IDK if i can count it as under appreciated because everyone who's seen it loves it but a lot of people also just write it off as an evil dead fan film. which it is and that's fine, but it's also just really good as a microbudget horror movie with goofy ass effects. and a couple legitimately creepy sfx moments too even though most of them look extremely fake and cheap.
14. Controversial as in like. had a lot of public problems then I'd pick Possession (1981). its crazy and really painful to watch at times but its still so good. and got banned in the UK and severely restricted in the US so i'd say that counts as controversy. Controversial as in ratings though i'd say Black Christmas (2019). Everyone hates that movie so bad and i'll die on any sword to defend its cheesy teen scream buzzfeed feminism honor.
15. Creep 2!!! i have watched that movie like 5 times in the last year and i will keep rewatching it forever. i can't explain what makes it so rewatchable but it never gets old or wears on me at all. something about the bi energy to it (i even found out after watching a couple times that the lead is a bi actress so like i guess she's the reason it feels like a bisexual ass movie)
16. Not sure if it's usually considered a horror but Funny Games. i watched the original and it ruined my day! but they really play with the fourth wall in a way that made me feel guilty for watching like i could have just paused the DVD and ended all the violence. so yeah i dont need to watch it again i'm good, but its also a really great movie.
4. favorite horror film from the year you were born; 33. favorite friendship in a horror film; 54. favorite horror film that you wouldn't (at least normally) show other people
4. OK to be honest i havent seen that many late 90s movies in general so the options were limited. we have Scream 2 and IKWYDLS which are both. Fine. But i'll have to give the spot to Perfect Blue! Second time plugging a Satoshi Kon movie in an ask game today but I can't help it if Perfect Blue is very good (im not crazy about the ending twist but everything else is so good)
33. i could pick so many great horror friendships but a good recent one is the friendship between Lisa and Taffy in Lisa Frankenstein :-) i just like that Taffy could have easily been the mean popular evil stepsister to our outsider protagonist, but she's actually upbeat and tries to be supportive of Lisa while they still have flaws with each other. It was a nice little complicated relationship.
54. Gotta say Repo the Genetic Opera for this one. Nobody can pry me away from my preteen favorite movie that i watched enough times to have it memorized in my head for boring classes but on the other hand this movie is gory and gross and incredibly, incredibly stupid. also there are so many terrible lyrics especially toward the beginning that make it a little embarrassing. you just wont Get It the way i do if you first watch it after your brain is done developing!!
I cant do this anymore

Here is our final line up!
Round 1 will begin with the left half of the bracket, these polls will be up in 24 hours.
The bracket has been seeded based on the number of submissions. Polls will be open for a week this time, so there will be plenty of time to spread them around, start arguments, and create propaganda!
Feel free to send asks with any queries about how this will work.

favorite horror film that you physically own (physical media supremacy)! favorite horror film that features your favorite horror trope!! favorite horror film to show/watch with other people!!!
YES physical media!! this is perfect timing because just this morning i finally got a blu ray of my favorite horror movie of all time: Black Christmas 1974 :-) it's been on my dvd wishlist forever but ive never been able to find it for a relatively cheap price til now. really good very early slasher (proto slasher? the genre didn't really fully exist yet) with heavy feminist subtext and a really fun cast of women.
even just picking a favorite trope is hard but ill go with the final girl which gives me too many options honestly! to avoid giving the same answer i'll just pick a different movie with one of my fave final girls: Spree, found footage about a guy desperate to go viral online by killing people. it's mostly from the killer's perspective so she doesn't show up until later but Jessie is great and i love her a lot.
favorite to show other people is probably House (1977) or the first Happy Death Day movie depending on who it is and their tolerance for Weird Movie Things. House is just so fun and ridiculous and out of line that watching other people react to it for the first time is great. And Happy Death Day is just a fun teen comedy type of movie. and its really horror-light (i dont even fully consider it a horror movie most of the time) so its a good recommendation for people i know who dont like as scary of movies.

I hate the “open floor plan” that everyone is obsessed with in houses now. I want nooks and crannies and bizarre floor plans. I don’t need to be able to see what someone is doing on the other side of the house. I want places to hide and lurk and dwell in the shadows. I am the beast who awaits in the labyrinth
