Also, for the first time since we started, I WILL NOT have submissions open on this personal blog, nor will I be responding to things I’m tagged in. In fact, I’ll only be online intermittently throughout the day and that will be on the Blackout’s platforms. I’m traveling all day and won’t be able to be as hands on as I usually am.

A Lesson in Recklessness

This week, I learned. I learned how reckless it is to become involved with people who are reckless with their words, with their time, with their energies, with the people they surround themselves with. I learned it was reckless to act before knowing an entire story and that it is reckless to believe myself so influential that I could resolve conflicts that I had no stake in nor business being in. I learned humility.

I learned the recklessness of shying away from taking a stand when I should be firm about will or will not be tolerated. I learned the recklessness of not shutting up. I learned how reckless it is to use this platform poorly, and how it can hurt people I care about. I learned that this is a reckless sort of social space and that I should not get so caught up that I don’t navigate it responsibly.

The metaphorical skinned knee that I’m nursing right now, the way that my feelings are smarting, are reminders of my recklessness this week. This week, I learned.
