Vee, they/them, queer, BLM, acab, inclusive, going absolutely insane about ninja turtles

just a reminder - do NOT boycott streaming services or not watch new things. the unions have not called for one for a reason. for one, it affects residual payments, which as minimal as those currently are, actors are still getting them during this time, and for two, studios will use lack of viewership as an excuse to cancel shows because you are showing them there is no demand. it deeply affects the industry the writers and actors stand to come back to once the strike is over

Also: going to these places puts pressure and demand on the company. Demand they can't meet without actors and writers. That puts stress on them, and stress is good.

^^^^ive been looking for a rb with this addition because YES. if a customer wants a burger and there is no cook to make it, that puts pressure on the owner to pay the cook what they want so the customer will still give them money. if there is no customer, the owner has no reason for the cook to make burgers

Stop watching IF AND ONLY IF the unions call for a boycott. For the time being since they haven't, streaming the shows actually helps. You're not crossing a picket line to watch because that picket line does not exist unless a boycott is called for.

i was talking to my coworker and mentioned my gf offhand and he looks at me and goes "oh well that makes sense" and when i was like whatchu mean, he said "i hope this doesnt come out the wrong way but people of your nature tend to speak about different things than straight ppl"

"???wait what do i talk about?"

"you know. smart things."

"...are you saying straight people are stupider?"

"honestly? yeah"

and when i tell u i fucking screamed

my favorite example of transferable skills in fiction regardless of how realistic it is are people who work with textiles (sewing, tailoring, etc.) being asked to help stitch a wound or perform surgery. oh you can mend a hole in a shirt? mend a hole in this guy then. it's basically the same thing just with more blood and screaming.

customer: wow, these stitches are so neat! where did you learn how to do this?

former mafia boss who abandoned the life of crime after realizing one day that he had a talent and passion for sewing: don't worry about it

“It’s literally impossible to be a woman.

You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow, we're always doing it wrong?

You have to be thin, but not too thin, and you can never say you wanna be thin. You have to say you wanna be healthy, but also, you have to BE THIN.

You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass.

You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean.

You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas.

You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time.

You have to be a career woman, but also, always be looking out for other people.

You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is INSANE, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining!

You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood, but ALWAYS STAND OUT and ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL. But never forget that the system is rigged, so find a way to acknowledge that but ALSO, always be grateful!

You have to never get old. Never be rude. Never show off. Never be selfish. Never fall down. Never fail. Never show fear. Never get OUT OF LINE. It's too hard! It's too contradictory, and nobody gives you a medal or says 'thank you!' And it turns out, in fact, that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also, everything is your fault.

I'm just so tired of watching myself, and every single other woman tie herself into knots, so that people will like us.

And if all of that, is also true for a doll just representing a woman, then I don't even know." -Gloria the barbie movie

this is it. this is exactly it oh my god.

I will never forgive mattel for not letting earring magic ken keep his mesh shirt and cock ring necklace in the movie

truly unforgivable

The Barbie Movie.

A small, non-comprehensive list of things that stood out to me (spoilers? Kind of?)

  • The soundtrack
  • All the jokes that played off of what it was actually like to play with barbies (the pool & ocean being flat, the cups having no drinks in them, the shower having no water, etc.
  • TRANS BARBIE
  • The choreography
  • The "I Am Kenough" tie-dye sweater
  • Barbies of many shapes and sizes! All very beautiful!
  • THE ENDING, OH MA LORD. Both the way the story concluded really beautifully, but also the ending joke that no one was prepared for—
  • Just... everything about Ryan Gosling's performance
  • Kate McKinnon playing the deranged, "ugly" Barbie
  • In the same vein, that movie would NOT have been complete without representing the kids who played with their dolls "too hard" (cutting their hair, bending them in weird ways, etc.)
  • Acknowledging that Barbie did in fact mean a lot to some girls. This movie was geared towards everyone, whether you grew up loving Barbie or hating her.
  • The mom and her daughter
  • The fact that when Barbie was starting to become "defective" and/or when she was in the real world, you could start to see her ""flaws"". Like I noticed in some scenes her eyebrows were unplucked and no longer perfectly sculpted, or her skin no longer perfectly smooth with foundation.
  • It was clear that SO much thought and research was put into this. I couldn't believe how many references there were to specific clothing items, certain playsets, etc.
  • The fact that Barbie and Ken DIDN'T end up together, and that Barbie DIDN'T indulge Ken in his flirtations (is that a word?) even once
  • THE FACT THAT I WAS SO CLOSE TO ACTUAL TEARS LIKE SEVEN TIMES???? LIKE WHAT????
  • The weird dark humor coming out of nowhere
  • The fact that Barbie never once looked at the human women (who were "imperfect" in comparison to her) with disgust
  • ......the moment between her and the woman on the bench 😭😭😭
  • The mom's rant about how hard it is being a woman (esp a mother) and how you can never win 🙌🙏
  • The misogyny in the Real World was so well done. It wasn't overexaggated or over the top it was just NORMAL EVERYDAY LIFE
  • THE JOKE ABOUT HAVING A MAN SIT YOU DOWN TO TALK ABOUT THE GODFATHER ASDJGKDLW
  • The moment where I went "OH so THAT'S where the mugshot memes came from"
  • Ruth Handler <3
  • The fact that everyone came to the theater dressed either in pink or Barbie-like attire :)

I find the fact that the Barbie movie is simultaneously being criticized by the right as “too radical”, and criticized by the left as “too nice to men” and/or “too pandering”, quite funny, given that America’s WHOLE SPEECH was about how, no matter what women (like the director of the Barbie movie) do, it will simultaneously always be too little and too much.

PRAYING that barbie sweeps the oscars not because i have anything against oppenheimer but because one of the few joys in life is seeing film bros melt down when movies primarily made for women are lauded as serious and important works

The Barbie movie: The Ken's need to find who they are outside of pursuing Barbies, a clear allegory for how real life men should not define themselves by trying to attract a partner and building their personality around that, something that would be healthier and better for them overall

Misogynists: barbie movie is so anti-men :(( how could they do this :((((

Between Ryan Gosling Ken and Benoit Blanc I'm starting to think that it's some sort of animal abuse to keep casting big name actors in stoic macho manly man rolls instead of giving them goofy little guys to play. Like look at them their coats are shiny, they seem so much more lively and energetic. We need to make sure all actors have enough goofy little guys to play before peta gets involved.
