There’s one of these in Boston, the Vilna Shul (https://vilnashul.org/about/our_history). The interior painting was primarily a Lithuanian thing, hence why most of them have been destroyed. The Vilna is one of few surviving examples and the murals are perpetually in need of preservation funding.
The sheer chaotic bisexual power if Marvel/Sony/Fox would let them share a movie together
I recently found out why my mom would never sleep around me when I was a kid. Like she’d never let herself take naps or sleep if I was awake, ever. Or if she did, she would lock her bedroom door. So when I was 6, I was asleep in my bed in the middle of the night when I hear a loud bang, like a pot being dropped and come out to the living room to see my mom standing by the window, with just a huge pile of spaghetti all over the sill, and a pot on the ground, and I ’m like “Are you gonna eat all that?” And ya’ll she get’s BIG MAD and yells at me and chases me to my room but then a little while later a bunch of cops show up and ask me a bunch of random ass questions about my art? Like this one cop lady keeps asking me to draw dragons for her?! And they seem mad as hell
I didn’t want to get arrested so I just never asked my mom for spaghettis after that. Lesson, learned. Don’t ask mom for spaghettis or she’ll call the damn police on you.
So I have this memory in my head, and it goes unquestioned until I say it outload for the first time a few months back and as soon as I say the words “When I was six, my mom called the cops on me for asking for spaghettis” My adult logic slams into place and is like “Hang on. Your mother definatly did not call the police on a 6 year old for asking for spaghetti.”
So obviously that’s not what really went down. I call up my mom to tell her how I remember it and on top of her figuring out why her kid has always been really cagey around spaghettis for the last 3 decades she tells me what really happened.
So on that night, a man tried to break into our house through the front window. It was just my mom, and her kids so she did what she felt she had too and shot him in the head. He’d been wearing a helmet, which landed on the floor under the window.
Now I just want ya’ll to put yourselves in my moms shoes for a minute here. This woman has just taken a human life. The trauma of that- the instant agony, the panic, the guilt, the fear- all of it hitting her at once, her only solace the knowledge that her children are safe. She protected her daughters. No matter the cost to her soul- her children are safe.
Then she looks up and sees her six year old staring at the inside of this mans head before saying “Are you gonna eat all that?”
Similar energy. and that energy is horrific

I don’t know if this is a metaphor for trans deadnames, but for women’s surnames, it’s absurd. In my country, women KEEP their names, and children get their father’s surname and then their mother’s. Nobody should have to take anyone’s name, lord knows I’m not losing either of my surnames just to get someone else’s. I’d rather have 3 whole ass surnames.
However, if it’s a metaphor for deadnames, I agree
It IS in fact a metaphor for deadnaming, but many people from English-speaking countries have been commenting that it’s hard to tell because people over here do, in fact, act just like this around women’s names.
It’s kray-zay.
Yeah that convo in the OP could easily happen here. In the States, a woman taking her husband’s name and never mentioning her own name again is expected so heavily that ‘mother’s maiden name’ is actually considered a security question for many banks/etc. And if your mother does not have a ‘maiden name’ you will sometimes be questioned on it. Also, some people will address things to Mr and Mrs. Husband’s first and last name. And if you are a woman with a professional title like Dr., people will routinely think there is a husband who is the doctor and not the woman.
Also if you give a kid their mother’s last name there will sometimes be drama even if the father has absolutely no involvement at all in the child’s life. Because you are supposed to want to pass on the man’s name no matter what.
it is very screwed up in other words.
having someone watch u play video games is an underrated form of companionship
psa
no one fucking tells you this so here it is:
when signing out forms to apply for disability / filling out a form for diagnosis
you’re supposed to fill it out as you on your worst days
like, I filled out forms that said I could do most things usually
like, my doctor added in the conditions like “yeah, they can feed themselves when not stressed” “they can do this when not stressed”
but how I should have filled it out was more like
“some days I can’t feed myself” “some days I can’t leave the house”
My doctor didn’t even know this, but I talked to someone who had worked with people with both developmental and intellectual disabilities for a number of years, and she told me to write down how it is for your bad days
this should be a thing they tell you, but it isn’t
part of the reason I didn’t get my autism diagnosis as soon as I should have is because I filled out forms wrong!
This also goes for filling out forms for disabled parking rights. I’ve been rejected multiple times for a pass cause I didn’t find this out till recently.
Wow
Also you’re generally supposed to fill it out as you are without help.
That throws me too. Because the more help I get, the more capable I get. It’s easy to forget what happens when the help falls away even partially let alone completely.
Can’t believe we got an entire episode of Beau simping for her girl
Please watch Michael Che’s Netflix special
Since y’all keep missing the fucking point
I’ll reblog this every fucking time
