God Comes First. Always.

@manda-kat

Just a Christian girl who loves drawing, writing, making videos and playing with RNGs. I like animals! I may be stupid, but that's my problem, not yours.

While I'm at it, what are soms girly cartoons you guys like? Doesn't matter if it's recent, nostalgic, super popular or obscure. I actually haven't watched a lot of the biggest names in kids television, so I kind of want to start watching this stuff and am looking for recommendations. (Since YouTube isn't giving me any good first-hand recs, I'd love to hear what you guys have to say)

Maybe I should just do TV reviews. I love talking about cartoons and stuff but I'm not very confident in actually TEACHING. I'm always mortified at the idea of getting information wrong.

But then again getting information wrong has never stopped cartoon reviewers before.

Does anybody know any YouTube channels that talk about girl's media or dolls or just... girly nostalgic things that is good and... uh... run by a woman? A lot of the biggest doll/girl-stuff channels I find are owned by men in makeup and it's kinda creepy. Then I find channels run by girls, but they all call themselves nonbinary or 'they' as if they like girly stuff, but can't stand to admit that they are-in fact- female.

Does anyone know any channels that review or cover typically girly things that are actually proud of being female? Or have an actual female point of view on things?

I'm looking for doll reviews, cartoon reviews, video essays, nostalgic stuff and modern stuff. Made for adults in the same way that a normal cartoon review channel is, but focused around girly media.

Mister Kitty!

He is a freak of nature, created in a weapons lab. His modifications make him virtually immortal, which leaves him as a thrill-seeker, convinced that nothing can hurt him. He’s the daredevil of the group- his recklessness making up for his small size. When he isn’t risking his- and everyone else’s- life, he enjoys normal cat things such as napping, eating and snuggling. He also enjoys dressing up in little outfits and will take any opportunity to do so.

Kelly!

A magical princess, cursed with being the middle child. Her sister is destined to be queen, which leaves Kelly forgotten. She basically grew up being told that her only worth was as a backup in case her sister couldn’t rule. Now Kelly overcompensates by training extra hard and never accepting help. She is determined to be the strongest magical girl ever born. This unfortunately makes her a bit of a jerk to everyone who tries to help her or implies that she may not be as all-powerful as she’d like to be. When she lets herself relax, however, Kelly is able to let others shine without feeling threatened. If there are people out there who love her no matter how strong she is, maybe she doesn’t need to be queen after all…

Nigel!

An amnesiac ghost with nothing better to do than help the others out while he searches for his lost memories so he can pass on to the afterlife. His appearance is ambiguous, reflecting how much he actually knows about himself. Nigel is generally easy to get along with, however he has a tendency to be petty and use his ghostly powers to lash out at others when they upset him. Despite having no concrete memories, he feels within himself that he has unfinished business and can’t move on until it is dealt with.

Spike!

He’s a talking narwhal. I wish I could say that’s all there is to him, but Spike actually has one of the more tragic backstories of the gang. His homeland was destroyed by attacking shark-people and he fled. He’s stuck as a narwhal due to undisclosed issues with his magical abilities, which SHOULD allow him to change form with ease, but his more sensible humanoid form seems locked away. He’s extremely insecure and doesn’t think highly of himself. He tries his best to help his friends, but often just embarrasses himself. With his magic currently busted, he is the most useless member of the team.

I remember the times as a child when I would write comics about my characters from Fatekeepers, however the story wasn't as much of a story as it was... a weird sitcom almost? Basically it wasn't the same thing at all.

I had an entire arc once where Nigel found Lazarus (not named Lazarus back then) and Kitty (called Evil Cat back then) dressed as cowboys. He was confused and they explained to him that it was cowboy day or some other nonsense. I don't remember their exact excuse. Basically the comics that follow are Nigel trying to get them to stop being so weird, but they just keep being cowboys. Even bringing a ton of actual cows into the house.

It ends with Nigel dressing as a cowboy and being all 'if you can't beat em, join em' when he runs into Lazarus and Kitty and finds them dressed in ridiculous 70s disco outfits and they tell him it's disco day or whatever and I don't think I can ever be as funny now as I thought I was back then.

Lazarus!

Lazarus (now upgraded to the color green!) is pretty humble compared to the rest of the team. He’s down to earth and hardworking, relying on his physical strength and discipline rather than magic or special powers like the others. This isn’t just out of preference, however, and is instead fueled by his distrust and near hatred of magic or other supernatural abilities. He says magic is a shortcut and is often wielded by people with more power than common sense to know how to use it responsibly. He harps on how easy magic is to abuse and is difficult to sway in his views.

"You're an adult, why do you watch shows like Bluey or reruns of Phineas and Ferb?"

Because as an animation fan, my only other options for shows right now are literally 'gay teenagers' or 'raunchy violence'. If you're not into either of those genres, your options are ridiculously limited.

*Starts imagining how to best design a character. Is having a great time. Thinks of ways to make them cool. Accidentally makes myself attracted to them. Continue to the next character.*

Happy!

A fan of dramatic irony, Happy’s nickname and mask are in stark contrast to his blunt, constantly negative personality. Happy is a secretive and neurotic person, refusing to remove his mask and becoming anxious if forced to take it off. He has been a Fatekeeper longer than the others, with his old team being mysteriously absent. Whatever happened to make him this way is a secret buried under his carefully cultivated mountain of lies.

Cupcake!

Cupcake isn’t an official member of the team, but since Lazarus adopted her, she insists on working alongside him. Cupcake may seem like the group’s pet at first glance, but she is more akin to a 12-year-old stuck in the body of a tiny horse. Her species is fully aware. She is very confident in herself, which is sometimes to her detriment- leading her to make reckless decisions. She idolizes Lazarus and constantly tries to make him proud.

I think part of growing up as a kid nobody really liked sucks the most because while, yeah, most of the time you grow out of it and you start making friends and finding ways to communicate with others, but at the end of the day, you can take the kid out of the social awkwardness, but you can't take the social awkwardness out of the kid.

So now you're an adult and people actually seem to like you now, but it doesn't feel like the win you always imagined. You've been burned before, thinking someone was your friend when they actually couldn't stand you and you just never realized. What if now it's just the same thing all over again? Especially when it comes to family, work friends or church or any other situation where you're kind of forced to interact, you wonder if they really like you at all or if they're just being civil adults and being nice to you despite how awful you are to be around.

At least when you were a kid nobody had developed the social skills enough to pretend to like you. Now, everyone's an adult and they all somehow feel more ADULT than you and every single time you act a little bit silly or a little bit weird you think 'this is it! They think I'm a total weirdo!' But then they just move on or they think it's funny or they show something weird about themselves and it's all okay and you KNOW it's okay but somehow you still feel like you'll never GET it. You'll never be able to actually FEEL the love of these new relationships because you don't want to overstep and make them hate you.

But we still have growing to do, so if we were able to grow from 'annoying kid nobody likes' to 'cool adult with a few friends, despite their worries' then maybe the next stage is 'mature adult who feels just as loved as they know they are'.

We don't stop growing in our 20s. Keep it up, fellow lonely kids.

I'm working on writing Fatekeepers, which is difficult because whether I make it a comic or buckle down and animate it, it's gonna take an insane amount of time. By my current calculations, to make a comic of the first episode would take roughly 80 straight hours of work.

I'm trying to find ways to make it quicker to create each episode, so going from attempted animation to a comic makes sense, but I'm not sure how to streamline it further. I'm gonna work out something.

Just had to fight a copperhead to the death in order to protect my dog. Awful experience 0/10 would do it a thousand times over if I needed to.
