I spend so much time carefully picking and adjusting the colors in every single drawing I make that I’d probably lose my mind if I didn’t just repeatedly push this out of my memory and pretend it’s not a thing. Why am I reblogging a blank empty post that doesn’t say anything??? Weird

good news! you can’t make sure that everyone will see the correct colors on their own device, but you can make sure your monitor is as accurate as possible for printing and sharing by calibrating it!

there are a bunch of free monitor tests, but here’s an easy one you can use. the passmark and eizo tests are also pretty good, though passmark doesn’t work in your browser. be warned that some tests may cause eye strain.

you can either use the settings built into your monitor itself or use the display color calibration settings in your operating system to adjust the settings until everything looks correct, and then enjoy your accurate colors.

okay but like. This exact concept is what finally got me to be open about being queer in my day to day.

I was at work. I can't go into detail about the situation, but someone was outed without their consent. And nobody was saying anything, and it was quiet, so I outed myself, too. So at least neither of us would be alone.

I was worried about the consequences. I'd never considered my identity a secret, but I wasn't open about it, either. It felt like it wasn't relevant to my job. If someone asked, I'd tell them, but otherwise, what did it matter?

After the incident, I met privately with a higher up. Told them what had happened and why it wasn't good, and made some suggestions on what to do in the future to keep everyone safe to be in the closet or out of it on their own terms.

To my absolute amazement, they told me that others had come forwards anonymously to say the same things. Then word spread. Meetings were had. Policy and procedures were put in place. A training course on gender and sexuality was implemented for the very first time.

And of course there were protests- people who dug in their heels and kicked up a fuss and didn't want to learn about "all that bullshit", and when those people showed their colors, their superiors realized that they weren't actually good representatives of the sort of environment they wanted to provide our clients, and a small number were actually let go.

I went to a meeting again the other week. And do you know what happened?

The meeting lead introduced themselves by name and pronouns, and asked everyone to please state their name, and, if they wished, theirs as well.

I was near the front. I introduced myself with He/Him. I thought I'd stand out like a sore thumb and feel like an idiot for hoping for better.

Two people down, someone introduced themselves as They/Them. Someone I'd never spoken much to before.

Then, She/they. At least two "anything fine"s. A he/her.

It was incredible. And it wasn't even a whole year ago.

There are so many of us, now. Even more, as we teach and learn about ourselves, and it's not so scary because there are others like us.

I'm not as loud and proud as I hope to be some day, because I'm still scared, a little, but I am here.

And I've learned that being openly queer isn't about just expressing myself for the sake of it, bringing personal details into places it doesn't matter-

-it's about telling someone, it's not just you. I'm in your corner. There are more of us than they think. There is power in numbers, and you are not alone.

And I kind of love that

my family is watching antiques roadshow again, and we were talking about the wwdits vampires trying to sell their old belongings at one of these things... which quickly devolved into how much we want to see them doing appraisals on the show.

laszlo is presented with an authentic norman rockwell painting and he's like "not enough tits, not enough bush" and he just like. throws it. finds some vintage victorian pornography and is like THIS IS MORE LIKE IT.

nadja is just wandering around judging jewelry by how haunted it is, giving insultingly lowball estimates, and stealing the pieces she likes best as soon as the cameras are off her. she mostly just hypnotizes a bunch of old ladies, but yes, there is a body count.

nandor is thrilled by how much antique weaponry there always is at these shows, but he is mostly enamored of All The Horsies. because for some reason, there is always so much horse art on this show. every horse painting is worth one million dollars.

colin is giving actual legit appraisals, his are the only ones that are at all accurate, but his appraisals are so long-winded (he draws them out just to keep folks anxious) that people usually pass out before they find out what their treasures are actually worth. he does not bother mugging them. (nadja often does, though.)

guillermo is like GUYS, WE REALLY SHOULDN'T BE ON TV... until the exact moment that he finds out how much a lot of their old shit is actually worth. once he loosens up, he finds that he actually really enjoys wandering around and looking at all of the antiques, even if they do kind of uncomfortably remind him of a very unpleasant ex.

nadja will, before this is over, shove a bunch of stolen jewelry at guillermo and tell him to hide it in his pockets. he will bitch while doing exactly that. colin will help the two of them resell their illicit gains on ebay the next day.

(meanwhile, laszlo has managed to pull both keno brothers.)

bonus for my fellow nandermo fans:

despite coming out of the whole endeavor much richer, guillermo is feeling unsettled because his ex-boyfriend always used to ramble at him about antiquities and he realizes that he was never once asked what he thought about any of them. it feels odd to realize how much he does actually enjoy the subject in the absence of a much larger personality that always made him feel smaller.

(story of his life, huh?)

after all this is done, he goes back out to some local shows and auctions, much smaller ones, and nandor accompanies him. they gossip at each other the whole time about which pieces they like, which they think are ugly, and which are drastically overpriced.

guillermo uses his new misbegotten wealth to buy nandor a statue of a horse, which he promptly names john.

it bears repeating in a more gentle manner but in the nicest way possible, there is a really issue with discrepancy when you talk about issues happening in different countries. when it’s anti-trans/gay laws in north america and western europe, it becomes “genocide”. when other countries, like mine, have jail and death penalties for being gay explicitly, it becomes a matter of “oh it’s illegal there” and sometimes, insidiously, “that’s just how they are, they’re less progressive.” and i need you all to know this is white supremacy talking and i, a gay person living in a country under the threat of death penalty, am as much of a victim as you are.

Fair would not it as hard as it does if it wasn't placed just after farewell wanderlust. The songs go from accepting who you are to someone else accepting you as you are.

And then you go into that unwanted animal and you're heart-broken again.

After that post that was going around yesterday about how to ‘banish a narcissist,’ I think this needs to be said

If you think narcissist is just another term you can use for self-centered abuser, or stars forbid use the term narc abuse, then get away from me. Unfollow me. Block me.

Narcissism is a personality disorder. A real actual medical issue.

The amount of stigma people with npd face is killing these people. Stigma that use of the word narcissistic in place of abusive or self centered is actively contributing to.

Anyone with any disorder or disability or illness can be an abuser, but you don’t see people going around saying terms like ‘anxious abuse’ or ‘adhd abuse’ even when anxiety can cause someone to lash out and hurt others and adhd can cause inattentive neglect

You can just say abuse. You can say self centered.

Do not throw people with npd under the bus. Do not use your trauma to justify ableism and sanism.

obviously dietary requirements aren't a joke but my grandma sometimes runs errands for her church and i asked her what she's up to today and she said extremely seriously "ive got to track down the body of the gluten free christ, julia"

Rick will never understand how funny it is to write a character who has a pivotal moment in the series be him rejecting immortality only to spend the rest of your career perpetually in the “I’m 17” “how long have you been 17” scene of twilight

Narrator voice: and then he didn’t

Tragedy! You set out to read a negative review of a piece of media you dislike, only to find that the critic is being completely unfair to it and making a bunch of bad, unsupportable arguments.

the audacious combination of procrastination, a do-it-yourself-attitude, quite a bit of hubris and an inability to focus for more than two minutes straight that is me has, in a truly foreseeable way, led to an unmounted old extractor hood in my kitchen and an also unmounted new extractor hood. also in my kitchen.
