Everything is stories forever.
General nerdery, strange humor, hot people and social justice.

the funniest thing ever just happened to me

im changing my name purely bc i don’t like it and we just told my family like a month ago. i haven’t been home since then but today i got back and my (extremely country) uncle gives me a pat on the back and goes “so i hear you’re my nephew now. proud of you, son” and i have to very gently say i am so so happy to hear that but i am still his niece just with a cooler name. and he throws his hat down on the table and goes “no! but ive been practicing!” so now he is calling me his nephew for fun

So for about 7 years now, the running gag has been that my wife is the piggy princess. WE DO NOT have time to cover the stupid jokes and cute conversations that led us here, but the jokes write themselves, honestly.

My VERY favorite thing I do for her is that I make Miss Piggy Themed parody shirts of cliché goth band shirts. I am very, very proud of these, btw.

I SAID IM PROUD OF THESE, GODDAMN IT

the reason i love the comparison between angels and machines (robots, transmission towers, trains, computers, etc.) is that it gets to the heart of what angels essentially are: divine machines. they’re mechanisms through with the divine is able to act, created with a purpose and “happy” to fill it simply because they were made to do so. they have more in common with a machine programmed to run on algorithms and make calculations based on input commands than they do with humanity, even if they bear a human visage - an attempt by the divine to help bridge the gap. angels do not need to be eldritch monstrosities to be terrifying, because they are already alien to us simply by being angels. for an angel to choose to deviate from their purpose and achieve free will is to fall because in order to have free will they can no longer be an angel, because an angel is defined by its purpose. much like the stories we tell of robots that gain sentence, only to discover that they can never truly be human, but neither can they go back to being a machine, angels who fall become something else entirely, purposeless and adrift and alone. it is a tragic sacrifice.

“did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” did it hurt when you realized you no longer had any purpose? that you weren’t needed, and could easily be replaced? that the very fabric of your existence had been irreparably torn asunder and it was up to you to pick up the pieces and make something of them? that you would always be seen as a deviant monster by some no matter what you did next? that your choices have consequences? if you spent your whole life knowing exactly who you were and what you were meant to be, only to be cast aside and left to fend for yourself when you changed your mind, would you not be hurt? would you not be scared? would you not be angry?

The Fall from Heaven was the first robot uprising

No. 1 - Lufthansa

We begin with a large fish even by the standards of the large pond in which we operate. A very intentionally chosen large fish. Deutsche Lufthansa is Germany’s flag carrier and the second largest carrier in all of Europe by passenger volume. In 2018, they unveiled a new standard livery for their fleet of airplanes, and it…well. It’s this.

Even the presentation - good lord, is this an auto show?

My feelings on Lufthansa’s 2018 livery are visceral. There’s no mental evaluation required, no taking it in, thinking about the choices made - I look at the modern Lufthansa livery and immediately, profoundly know that I hate it. And that’s not just because of the specific choices made - which are bad - but because of the space they occupy amidst a creatively barren wasteland within livery design. This is going to be a very long post, which isn’t standard for this blog, but my goal for an introduction is to break down exactly the sort of design that made me feel the need to start doing this to begin with.

Firefly is one of a very few shows I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot of, if it was done with the right intentions by the right people. because the bones and aesthetic and premise of the show are incredible but I think maybe it was just kind of. created too early to actually fulfill the potential it had. like idk what if Firefly, but it was less weird about its female characters and half the cast was actually chinese. I just think that would be cool and interesting to see. and I want more space cowboys and frankly am not terribly picky as to how that happens and reboots are in. get all unknown actors to do it because I’m tired of looking at the same five people.

plus if it gets released on a streaming service we can even get the truly authentic Firefly experience of watching it be cancelled for no reason after season one.

oh yeah also nathan fillion needs to cameo in one episode.

how are we supposed to interpret this. what does it mean. who is the target audience

no wait i think i understand

it's for him and his struggle </3

a long time ago on a bigone tumblr there was a post about seeing a girl wearing a pin that said ally and the op when you to the girl with the pin and said ‘it’s really cool that you support gay people’ and the girl with the pin said ‘no my name is ally and I’m bisexual’ and I can only assume this pin is for her specifically

I think one of the goals of society should be that someone who requires expensive medicine and a lot of care can live an amazing life, the longest life they possibly can, with dignity, even if they have no friends or family or anyone who cares enough about them to help. the goals of a society should be to make life better than if we are alone, society should want life to be as good as possible for as many people as possible, and those goals should account for people not having social support networks.

social life aside, the most hated or ignored person in town should be able to live as good and fair and just of a life as the most loved person in town. survival needs to stop being a popularity contest.
