Hi! I'm wondering if you have typed up your house rules for skill challenges anywhere. I haven't found them myself and would like to share them with a new DM I know. Thanks!

I’m sure I have, but I can’t find it. But it’s ok, because It’s pretty straight forward.

The Lord Kensington Rules for Skill Challenges are:

  • ROLL INITIATIVE!
  • Accrue a number of successes equal to party members +3 to win
  • Accrue 3 failures to lose
  • You can’t roll the same skill twice in a row.
  • You can’t roll the same skill someone immediately preceding you in initiative just rolled.
  • Allow creative uses of skills, but not uses that horn in on other skills.
  • Final decision as to whether a description of a skill works  (and whether a roll can be attempted at all) lies with the GM.

One thing I found interesting about the Nimona movie is that it very much establishes the technology level right up front. In the comic we see ballister's arm, so we have some clue; but we discover what exists and what doesn't as we go. I suspect because ND Stevenson also discovered it as he went.

Were you, like me, a little underwhelmed by Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities? I think it’s because most (if not all of these) were based on literary short stories so almost all of the endings fall flat because no one is describing the dread/glee/other that is going through the characters’ mind; so the actors have to carry that in their performance.
