How Does One Adult?

@magicianparrish

Cay, NY. FINALLY got that Master’s degree yo. Trying to be an adult.

One of my grandfathers was a dentist. The other was a fisherman.

I had a bonus grandfather who was a trucker.

What did your grandfathers do?

Ok, an unusually high number of people in the comments have relatives that probably have a Wikipedia article with their name.

I hope you don't mind if I share this, but this is a very good point!

idk if this is a boomer take but I think ppl should make more of an effort to go see movies in theaters bc I couldn’t bear it if the movie theater industry went down and the only way to watch movies was through streaming I’m not strong enough

Actually I’ll make it even more boomer because I genuinely think it’s a good thing for people to have a reason to put down social media for an hour or two and just focus all their attention on a movie together and get fully immersed like I think that’s good practice for our attention spans and ultimately for our mental health (unless you’re a person who uses your phone during the movie in the theater in which case uh idk die)

Me: Fuck, the paper towels I want are on the top shelf.
The Sir David Attenborough That Lives In My Brain: Being smaller-than-average presents an added challenge to foraging ... but necessity is the mother of invention. A little creativity turns a baguette into a tool, and voilà--
(paper towel roll falls on my face)
Sir David Attenborough, pleasantly: Success.

why are all these modern aus for the Odyssey set in a high school. where's the retelling where Odysseus is just a guy lost in an airport who keeps missing his connecting flights home due to a comical series of delays and disgruntled airline employees

Absolutely genuis

Every few minutes, someone honks. The woman behind the wheel shifts and lowers her sunglasses to glare at the circling cars in the rearview mirror. Vultures. Let them curse. She keeps her doors locked and her phone battery charged. Penelope has been waiting in the arrivals lot for far too long, and she refuses to give up her place for anyone.

1 - Actually premature, born at 37 weeks or before

2 - A week or 2 before your estimated due date (38-39 weeks)

3 - within 3 days of your estimated due date (before or after)

4 - more than 3 days after your estimated due date up to 41 weeks

5 - your mother had to be induced because of how late it was, not from any other complications (42 weeks)

Just a curiosity! It's cool if you have no idea lol I know because my mom complains how late I was 😅😅

I’m paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD

Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️

Reblog to have your dashboard be visited by the spirit of joy that death can end but not erase.

Love that this is well beyond 7000 people now and still going

@leavescrown Exactly! It’s a beautiful gift. Martin and Bosco out there travelling around the Tumblr community, continually making new friends.

#hello again martin and bosco!! sending you boys round for another go :)

Reading your tag made me laugh out loud. It’s like two old friends unexpectedly stopped by your porch for a quick visit. XD

I’ll always reblog Martin and Bosco when they splash across my dash, because of Reasons.

What’s loved, lives.

There is something truly beautiful in seeing a comment like that from someone so very loved and recently lost.

Yes, Peter, you’re absolutely right. What’s loved, lives. You three boys all come back around again to see me again soon, okay?

Being an adult right now it’s like oh boy I can’t wait to pay $20 a month to seven different companies so I can do something with my free time that I enjoy. I work a full-time job or a part-time job or multiple part-time jobs and I can’t afford to live on my own. You need a masters degree for any entry-level position except if you have one we’re gonna say that you’re overqualified and we’re not gonna give you the job. This job pays $20 an hour, no more, and comes with no benefits. Groceries are also $6 billion. Do you wanna take a loan out on a burger so that you can afford to eat a burger because you don’t wanna cook tonight because you’re exhausted from working? Do you want to start a pay in for a plan for a $100 purchase because you can’t afford to spend $100 in a month even though you don’t pay rent because you live with your parents? Do you enjoy suffering? do you enjoy suffering? Do you love to suffer? We sure hope you do. everything you love is made of garbage. Everything is owned by Amazon or Disney or Warner media or fucking black rock or something else. It’s 75° in October! There aren’t bugs anymore anywhere! They just bulldozed that low income housing unit to turn it into an Amazon warehouse!

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but more people should read incomplete/unfinished/in-progress fanfics.

I've noticed this huge trend where creators on tiktok and tumblr who will be explaining how to use Archive Of Our Own to new users and they always say "and make sure to scroll down and click completed only" or how people will go out of their way to mention they only read completed fics 'because they were traumatized when they forgot to check the dates and didn't realize this fic hadn't been updated since 2012'.

The thing is - I think by not engaging with and/or actively avoiding writer's WIPs readers are potentially adding to the aggregate of abandoned works. Now this obviously isn't the case for all abandoned fics, anything from major life events, to loss of interest, to getting busy can be a reason for a fic getting abandoned - but at least on some level I just know that writers are quitting while they're ahead when they aren't garnering any response or feedback because reading WIPs has become unpopular. If you're worried about reading something that hasn't been updated since 2012 then you can use the date updated function to sort out old fics.

Anyways, support your favorite fanfic writers by engaging with their WIPs.

Legit, getting a subscription on a fic I'd abandoned 10 years earlier spurred me into action to finish it (and write a sequel!)

#The journey of reading a fic while it's updating is part of the fun!

Yes exactly this! I love subscribing to fics forgetting about them a bit and then being pleasantly surprised when they update again and they show up in my inbox. It makes me feel like I'm a Charles Dickens fan living in 1830s London waiting patiently for his new chapter to be released via the daily paper.

when that bastard finally dies my one fear is that they'll try to make it a national day of mourning; that they'll come down hard with all sorts of virtuous "he was a father and a leader" language that we will be expected to parrot and support. i fear they will immediately try to make him into some kind of martyr and saint; repainting him as a benevolent god.

for the record that moment that asshole is swallowed up by the mouth of hell: i am having simply the most inappropriate death party ever held. i'm talking - everybody's naked. bubbles fill the entire damn house. maybe an open fire source. i will hold the door open for strangers; get in here, who cares, here are the substances

"oh that's ghoulish" nah man invite the ghoul too #loveislove

growing up in chicago i always found it very insulting whenever i went to summer camp or whatever and suburban kids and rural kids made jokes about “chiraq” and asked me if i needed to carry a gun to take the train (real question that was asked to me by an ADULT when i was 14). like it was rude and distasteful and obviously rooted in racism and it always pissed me off.

and now in this current moment i’m just so mad. even more mad than i was then bc i was RIGHT those jokes were EVIL that all the propaganda about big cities being these crime ridden warzones are now being used as a pretense to fucking invade my city and terrorize my community. chicago forever
