please DO NOT assume that just because my character is doing something that i as the writer

  • approve of it
  • am romanticizing it
  • have a kink with regard to it
  • think it is okay for anyone to ever do ever

because sometimes my character does things that I absolutely cringe at and which are almost painful to write.

but my writing a villain does not make me a villian

understand that it is fiction and I do not condone the wrong actions that sometimes are written out on my blog for in-character purposes.

SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK

GOES FOR VISUAL ARTISTS TOO

Also applies to main characters, too: not all authors write their novels with a character that acts as a moral compass. Characters =/= author

This should be obvious?

It should be, but as a writer I have been accosted by people who condemned my actions for writing a violent character. Y’can’t assume everyone has sense.

I am actually a one-legged cannibal.

12 Questions to Ask Yourself About Your Magic System

  1. How is it learned and executed?
  2. How is it accessed?
  3. Does it have a will of its own?
  4. Is it restricted in space and time?
  5. What does available magic do?
  6. How does it relate to the character, plot and theme of the book?
  7. What is the cost of magic?
  8. What can it not do?
  9. How long does it last?
  10. Who can use it?
  11. How do others react to it?
  12. Why haven’t people with this power taken over the world?

i cannot stress how important i find the last question.

Ancient Alphabets. Thedan Script - used extensively by Gardnerian Witches Runic Alphabets - they served for divinatory and ritual purposes, as well as the more practical use; there are three main types of Runes; Germanic, Scandinavian/Norse, and Anglo-Saxon and they each have any number of variations, depending on the region from which they originate  Celtic and Pictish - early Celts and their priests, the Druids, had their own form of alphabet known as “Ogam Bethluisnion”, which was an extremely simple alphabet used more for carving into wood and stone, than for general writing, while Pictish artwork was later adopted by the Celts, especially throughout Ireland Ceremonial Magick Alphabets - ”Passing the River”, ”Malachim” and ”Celestial” alphabets were used almost exclusively by ceremonial magicians

Reblogging for future reference, I love learning how to write in these alphabets.

Sapphy Thoughts: Games and Art

This one I think is actually going to be fairly short. The rising popularity of games has caused it to be considered as an Art Form and not just another way to waste time. This is awesome, more ways for people to express themselves! Games offer an interactive element not found in any other media. I believe that Video Games can be an art form. But in this quest one should not forget that they are making a game. This means it should be functional, that it is capable of being played, and ultimately that it is fun to play. Yes, games can be an Art Form. But they are Games first, and art second. Just like How I think Movies can be artistic- that doesn't stop them from being movies.

Sometimes I think of how one tiny mutated cell can wipe out our whole civilization, but then I watch a video like this and think “nah, we’re way too awesome of a species to be defeated.”

I feel like my life is complete after watching this.

HOLY SHITTING CHRIST.HOW DOES HE MANAGE TO KEEP SUCH A GOOD TONE QUALITY. WHAT THE SHIT. I CAN’T. JUST.

Seriously, as somebody who is relatively good at the flute let me tell you that that is really fucking difficult. REALLY FUCKING DIFFICULT. That’s like the flautist’s equivalent of trying to talk normally whilst breathing in: it just isn’t doable. This guy is using some freaky fucking sorcery. As if that weren’t bad enough: HIS FINGERS ON THAT LAST BLOODY SCALE HOLY SHIT. HOW CAN YOU MOVE THAT FAST. I CAN’T EVEN DO F BLOODY MAJOR THAT FAST AND IT’S THE EASIEST BLOODY SCALE WE HAVE HOLY CHRIST.

Gravity Falls Theme - Full version

Also known as the catchiest damn theme in the universe.

ok but the animation that goes with this is so perfectly synced and yet it’s synced so subtly that i didn’t even notice that every action follows the music for a long time

(but that’s also because i dont notice things)

Omfg what if you landed on a planet that supported life and the “humans” there were much more technologically advanced and they made you come back to life from your remains and you just woke up after death in a random ass planet.

Wouldn’t it be even more amazing if your remains landed on a different planet, with no life, but an atmosphere, and the biological material in your remains started life for an entire planet?

Sapphy's Thoughts: Falling Down 1

I hate emotions. They're fickle, unpredictable, and annoying. To be slightly clearer: I happen to be clawing my way out of a slump I've recently hit. On one hand, I'm doing great. Recently became a site artist for a website that I greatly enjoy, my art is doing awesome. Relationship with boyfriend going swell, etc. On the other is school and papers, and stress and just... why? I hate the fact that I feel like this. For that matter that no matter how good I am or was doing, that I felt like I was failing. Somehow the fact that I was just.. in school just made me feel like shit. ... To be honest, I still haven't quite figured out what the deal is. In fact,I have class in like 2 hours. I also need to write a paper. I'm writing this first though. If it isn't clear- I've tripped and fallen down metephorically speaking. I've skipped classes not because I wasn't feeling well physically, but mentally. I just.. Couldn't manage to drag myself out of my dorm, to my class. And yes this is me admitting my failing as a student. I should go to class every period. I know that. Or at least, consciously I do.

But guess what, I'm forcing myself to go to that class that's in 2 hours. I don't even know if we have a quiz or not.Or what we're doing even. I'll probably get some shit for not reading whatever we were supposed to read. Or whatever. But i'm viewing it as more a "Step one how to fix how I fucked up the last week or two". You fall down, you get back up. I'm trying to figure out how to motivate myself appropriately so that you know... everything else doesn't get lost in the process. I tend to hyper focus on fixing one problem and then it just turns into more where I'm not looking. So here's the tip I guess for everyone: keep your eyes open. I'll probably write a bit more on this at some other point: But like I said. I have a paper to write.
