I feel like Hope has a bit of insecurity about how she looks so she tries dying her fur to look more like a riolu. But Nuzleaf wasn’t on board with a 10 year old dying her hair.

show, don't tell:

anticipation - bouncing legs - darting eyes - breathing deeply - useless / mindless tasks - eyes on the clock - checking and re-checking

frustration - grumbling - heavy footsteps - hot flush - narrowed eyes - pointing fingers - pacing / stomping

sadness - eyes filling up with tears - blinking quickly - hiccuped breaths - face turned away - red / burning cheeks - short sentences with gulps

happiness - smiling / cheeks hurting - animated - chest hurts from laughing - rapid movements - eye contact - quick speaking

boredom - complaining - sighing - grumbling - pacing - leg bouncing - picking at nails

fear - quick heartbeat - shaking / clammy hands - pinching self - tuck away - closing eyes - clenched hands

disappointment - no eye contact - hard swallow - clenched hands - tears, occasionally - mhm-hmm

tiredness - spacing out - eyes closing - nodding head absently - long sighs - no eye contact - grim smile

confidence - prolonged eye contact - appreciates instead of apologizing - active listening - shoulders back - micro reactions

I suddenly understand why jewelry is expensive

Hopefully people will start to realize why trades in general are so expensive. You're paying for someone's experience to make a good finished product that takes skill and years of practice.

However there is also a giant gap that needs to be filled in trades. As people are aging out of jobs like tailors, carpenters, bookbinders, leatherworkers, etc, there aren't enough young people going INTO the trades to repopulate the jobs.

Please. Please. Consider going into trades.

These are the kinds of jobs people "fall into," because they aren't visible, and are never talked about.

Kids never grow up telling people they want to be a bookbinder. They don't know they even exist. And schools never ever present them as valid options. And if they do talk about them, they are treated as invalid compaired to NFL Linebacker, President, and Brain Surgeon. After all "jewelry maker" is something people do to supplement their "burger flipping" income, and not an extension of blacksmithing.

But that's the crux of it, isn't it? Crafting and trade skills are an extension of artistic skills, which are often seen as completely invalid, and a total waist of time.

As the daughter of a professional bookbinder/book restorer, I had to reblog.

reblogging because I was in a course at college that covered Artisan skills such as these. I have friends who have since gone on to do Jewellery, Carpentry, Ceramics, Glasswork AND Blacksmithing. Ironically I ‘fell into’ comics.

windows to Artisan jobs are still around, the rising interest of upcycling and restoration has brought young folk into doing them.

Boosting because Artisan trades should be valued and carried on.

Hate that discourse over Ariel being black has completely overwhelmed discussion about the remake

I fucking knew this would happen, but I still hate it

It's Ghostbusters 2016 all over again. Because of a vocal minority of bigots, you're not allowed to criticize the movie for any reason, or else you'll be lumped in with said bigots.

Almost as if these multimillion dollars corporations are using women and minorities to shield themselves from criticism?

Victor Frankenstein: I’ve created life but I refuse to put any effort into helping that life develop. I won’t teach him, love him, or defend him even though I forced him into existence with a fully operational adult brain lol. Peace, bitch.

The Monster: Am Eloquent Baby

Boomers: He’S NOt thE ViCtIM, HE’s tHe MOnsTEr

An ironic parallel considering the idea of “tough love” parenting that plenty of boomers like to use. If they buy into the idea that their kids just have to toughen up and face the real world without guidance or emotional support, I’m sure it does scare them to read a story where someone who wasn’t given any support began to resent their creator and turn on them.

it’s like that post that’s like ‘knowledge is knowing that frankenstein is the doctor; wisdom is knowing that frankenstein is the monster’. like the whole point of the post is that frankenstein’s monster is a victim of viktor frankenstein’s own monstrosity.

mary shelley did not lose her virginity on her mother’s grave just for people to misunderstand her best known work over a century later.

Great post everybody

If you're gonna come into my inbox calling some random transfem a pedophile with no substantive evidence, I'm just going to assume that you're a transphobe.

99% of the time I'll actually look into what y'all are pointing to as evidence of some transfem being a pedophile and it's either "This person discussed pedophilia in a way that did not condone it, and people are clearly deliberately misinterpreting their words." Or "something something shipping discourse." Or "This transfem posted bulge and that makes me scared."

"X blogger is following Y Problematic Blogger in this screenshot!"

  • It's entirely possible to follow people and not be aware of their beliefs. Shitty people don't exactly have signs saying they're a shithead.
  • Are they still following that blogger? No? Who cares then.
  • Does following someone mean agreeing with and endorsing their views? Not necessarily. I follow human pet guy because I like watching him say insane shit.

Y'all will go to such LENGTHS to convince yourselves that random transfems are pedophiles or nonbinary exclusionists or bad kink enjoyers that y'all will twist reasonable posts or obvious jokes into conspiratorial evidence of their transgender malice and deviance.

The conclusions yall draw can only be reached by actively ignoring the messy humanity of a persons life. If you're doing this on purpose, you're a transphobe. If you're not doing this on purpose, you're still a transphobe, but you're also an idiot.

I’m glad to see bigger blogs on here talking about this, tired of half the site being in perfect lockstep with Republican senators and thinking that anyone who points it out is part of the same secret pedophile ring

Hope da railway workers get everything they want. Autists the country over should stand with them

Yeah I was thinking on this today:

Considering that the rail system is an integral logistical piece in pretty much every facet of US society, how can we support them in the event of a strike?

Not to say that I don’t want to, but like, people gotta eat and get gas.

Reframe it as the problem of the employers and not the workers. The workers aren’t why you can’t get food, the bosses are! Redirect people’s understandable fear and rage at a useful and reasonable target

not only are rail workers treated like absolute shit with 30 days off a year (that they can't schedule) and no sick leave but the rail companies are trying to move trains from a two person crew to a one person crew thereby doubling the workload. this is a terrible idea since driving trains (especially modern super long trains) is really hard and having an extra person to do other tasks and help out with paperwork is very useful. however, it will save the rail companies lots of money which will then be passed on to shareholders. this isn't just about benefits and sick days it's about ensuring the safety of railways, trains, and the things around them.

i will never forgive the internet for what it did to the word “mansplain”

mansplaining is a very specific phenomonon wherein a man who is NOT qualified to talk about a topic assumed he knows better than other people who ARE qualified, purely because of sexism.

sharing a fun fact you learned isnt mansplaining. infodumping isnt mansplaining. adding your relevant personal experience to a discussion isn’t mansplaining, (as long as you remain respectful of others’ experiences as well, but that’s always true). correcting someone who is objectively wrong and spreading misinformation REALLY isn’t mansplaining.

stop telling men that all of their interests and attempts at socializing are insulting and unwanted, your gender essentialism is showing.

people in my REAL LIFE i have had to convince i like to hear them talk, really:

  • trans men talking about their oppression
  • trans women talking about their oppression
  • autistic men infodumping
  • perfectly kind cis men who are answering a question i literally asked, or getting passionate about one of their interests

people who AREN’T self-conscious about this:

  • men who actually fucking mansplain, oh my god the whole POINT is that they dont care about other people’s thoughts, why do you think whatever this fucking campaign is would bother them

this is making the rounds again and the amount of people in the notes accusing me of being a man is hilarious. like no i just dont like being mean to people and alienating my friends, sorry.

I need people to stop blaming the death of movies on “quips”. A quip is just a funny line of dialogue. That’s all. Like I just saw a post talking about quips and the death of movies and brought up Pirates of the Caribbean as an example of a better movie and yes it is but also that movie is FULL OF QUIPS. I just rewatched The Princess Bride. It’s all quips. Every single line. And it’s a masterpiece.

Movies suck when people don’t care about the art they’re making. That includes them not caring about their quips. Which is why a lot of comic relief dialogue ALSO sucks now. But the problem isn’t that funny dialogue exists.
