frecklesohmy said: Hiya! Just wondering if you had any updates on when we might be expecting the short stories featuring the TLH characters or any news you can share on publishing dates for all the shadowhunter books as I eagerly anticipate them all! Thanks!

This is my new schedule, above — I posted a longer essay to my newsletter about why the schedule has changed. There will be short stories featuring the TLH characters next year, in the form of monthly novellas about several of them.

I’ve seen a few people saying this somehow reflects what I care about — that I care about TDA more than TLH, etc. It’s just not the case though I understand being frustrated — just as I understand being happy Queen of Air and Darkness is coming sooner!

As a writer, it often matters where you are emotionally when you’re writing, more than you wish it did. Having to deal with a huge loss and grief in my own life as I was writing Lord of Shadows made me reach for Queen of Air and Darkness to work out that grief and to use that raw emotion in the best way I thought it could be used. The very lighthearted beginning of Chain of Gold was a  much harder stretch for me — I’d be trying to write jokes and banter while wiping away tears, where Queen was very much exactly where I was at emotionally.

In the end, I made the decision to flip Queen and Chain because I thought it was the best thing for me and for my readers. I find myself missing James and Lucie, Cordelia and Alastair and Thomas and Anna and Christopher even now, and I know that when I do turn back to Chain I’ll be doing it with all my energy and love.

I’m really looking forward to telling you all about that new short story collection, too, which will start as a series of ebooks early next year. Hmmm..what might it be about? :)

Guess what? A BRAND NEW SHADOWHUNTERS SHORT STORY collection is coming to you!

The Shadow Market is a meeting point for faeries, werewolves, warlocks and vampires. There the Downworlders buy and sell magical objects, make dark bargains, and whisper secrets they do not want the Nephilim to know. Through two centuries, however, there has been a frequent visitor to the Shadow Market from the City of Bones, the very heart of the Shadowhunters. As a Silent Brother, Brother Zachariah is sworn keeper of the laws and lore of the Nephilim. But once he was a Shadowhunter called Jem Carstairs, and his love, then and always, is the warlock Tessa Gray.

Follow Brother Zachariah and see, against the backdrop of the Shadow Market’s dark dealings and festive celebrations, Anna Lightwood’s first romance, Matthew Fairchild’s great sin and Tessa Gray plunged into a world war. Valentine Morgenstern buys a soul at the Market and a young Jace Wayland’s soul finds safe harbor. In the Market is hidden a lost heir and a beloved ghost, and no one can save you once you have traded away your heart. Not even Brother Zachariah…

I’ll be co-writing this collection with Maureen Johnson, Robin Wasserman, Sarah Rees Brennan and Pulitzer finalist Kelly Link! Ghosts of the Shadow Market will be published in a similar fashion to The Bane Chronicles and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy. The first story, SON OF THE DAWN, will be released as an ebook in April, with seven more to follow, one per month. The print version of the collected stories will be released in 2019 (Walker Books will be publishing Ghosts of the Shadow Market in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand). Bad News and Good News(?)

Okay! So here’s the deal!

Bad News: The Mortal Instruments Graphic Novel’s release date has been pushed back a week. Auuugh! I’m sorry I was as stoked about the release as you guys!!! But there was an issue with the trucking/shipping company and getting the books out in time. Some stores may still have the books on the proper date (October 31) and I’m not totally sure if this means a delay on online orders or not but the new Official release date is November 7!

Good News: Well, to make up for the delay, I will post an illustration every day that week as a countdown! Okay? Hopefully that will make the extra bit of wait easier!

Making myself a healthy smoothie😊
