I like tinkering, RWBY, and cats! Follow at your own risk!

I didn’t know cheetahs meow I’ve always thought they roar my whole life has been a lie

Ok but the other one is purring so hard

If I ever don’t reblog this assume I’m dead

Fun fact: technically, because of its inability to roar and its ability to purr, the cheetah is not a ‘big cat’ (or Great Cat) - they are still classified as Lesser Cats.

Also you haven’t heard anything until you hear them cheep.

YOU CANNOT JUST SAY THAT AND NOT PROVIDE A VIDEO

I HAVE REALISED MY MISTAKE AND SHALL RECTIFY IT:

Cheeps.

Filed under: Things I Was Not Prepared For

I fucking hate the “explaining = invalidating” when it comes to apologies. Yes, sometimes a person means to invalidate you by saying this, but sometimes we genuinely just want to fucking explain our side so we can properly communicate.

I do not know what the fuck is wrong until I’m told what I’ve done wrong and feel the need to explain in order for us to see both of our sides

I like getting explanations with apologies because for me it helps lessen the damage that was done or can help clear the negative emotions.

I’ve had multiple people say it’s a sign that I’m a bad person that I don’t apologize right away, or that I’m giving excuses instead of owning up and apologizing (which is fucking hard for me to know if I’m actually in the wrong or not and people doing this shit does NOT fucking help). Apologies aren’t always just a “Sorry” one and done deal thing.

knowing that someone didn't mean to harm you, and in fact may have been trying to help, can be comforting! knowing how they came to choose actions that harmed you can help you both collaborate to avoid harm in the future! Knowing whats going on in the mind of your loved ones can be important and bring you closer together in times of possible conflict! An explanation is NOT an excuse, thats true, but that also means that someone explaining doesn't mean they're not ALSO trying to apologize on top of that!

I mean it's actually actively important to understand that people didn't intentionally try to hurt you. We have a real problem with assuming malicious intent behind actions, when the vast majority of people are actually just being a bit inept, or even might be coming at something from a different angle. The absolute insistence that you must never explain your actions, you must simply self flagellate before the Appointed Victim is... well, a lot of very problematic stuff can be enabled by that.

Avatar

I wonder if a lot of people get frustrated by explanations of mistakes because they want to take their anger out on their imaginary malicious version of you and they don't want new information that might challenge that

if so, sucks to be them, but that's no way to treat someone you want to continue a positive relationship with

i think a large part of the problem is how a lot of people seem to see apologies not as an attempt to mend the relationship and avoid future conflict, but as an signal of who is Winning between you. i ran into this a lot in christian circles; forgiveness is something you graciously bestow on the Bad Person who wronged you because you are Better Than Them, not like...a chance to improve things.

people like that get VERY upset when you instead want to tackle whatever the problem was as a team rather than just take your blame and go.

Aight, some of ya’ll gotta chill.

Some of ya’ll REALLY gotta chill when it comes to that Weiss and Jaune scene. Weiss being attracted to maturity ain’t a new thing but ya’ll are blowin that up a bit too much. Small comedic moment, Jaune is happy to see his friends. The girl thought he was handsome don’t mean She’s gonna fuck him right then and there or in the future.

Let the White Knight shippers have their fun and stop bashing the White Rose guys. Hell, even YANG thought he was handsome you people gotta chill the hell out.

And to all those Whiterose / WhiteKnight shippers out there being idiotic and toxic—-chill. It was a joke, a brief one. She found the guy physically attractive for a moment doesn’t mean it’s endgame and your ship is being sunk. Hell WhiteRose aint even endgame rn either despite there being way more evidence for the latter.

Speaking of that for those of you ‘jumping ship’ because of that little moment—-you’re ridiculous and stupid and you were never a true WhiteRose shipper. If THAT is enough to make you jump from the ship you never truly shipped them in the first place.

Try and enjoy the ride, go to fanfic and fanart or look back on earlier seasons for your fuel. It aint going anywhere enjoy the comedic moment with Weiss and what she found physically attractive for a moment and move on.

She’s attracted to maturity and loyalty. That fact applies to Pyhhra, Yang, Ruby, Ren and a whole buncha other people. In jaunes case the last time she saw him he was still the same age, a dork and she had an impression of him.

Here he is clearly different and she liked that for a moment PHYSICALLY.

Just for ONCE can we not blow something out of proportion when it comes to shipping in this FNDM? Please?

Is that too much to ask?

THIS

ALL OF THIS

While not quite true, it’s a good sentiment.

  • Don’t pirate books, for example, because while it does hurt the publisher, it hurts the author more, since they’re only paid by their direct sales numbers. Get the book from a library instead, since that drives a sale, supports a public service, and is free to you. (The exception being textbooks. The authors have usually already been paid all they’re ever going to get, if they got paid at all, and the publisher rakes in an obscene profit.)
  • Don’t pirate indie stuff, whether it’s movies, books, music, art, video games, whatever. If it’s indie, you are directly hurting a creative who just wanted to put something nice into the world, and not being able to eat directly impacts their ability to make more nice things. Caution: certain industries like video games and music are very volatile, and companies that used to be indie might not be anymore but might still be cruising on that indie cred. Similarly, a well-known and well-loved studio you’ve been a fan of for years might seem huge to you but is actually still just a couple schmucks barely scraping by. Look into a company, see how big it is, and if it’s a subsidiary of something larger. If it’s just a few people, don’t steal, but if it’s actually a multi-million dollar company with several dozen employees, yeah, it’s probably fine.
  • Do pirate from the giant names: Disney, EA, Activision, Warner, Sony, major tv networks, etc. It’s almost guaranteed that the people who actually worked on the project were paid terribly, have gotten all they’re going to get from it, and the company is bringing in so many billions of dollars with each project that you won’t make a dent.

I needed this.

Thank you to all the people who posted this so I ended up seeing it. I really needed this right now. Thank you!

Yeah… Not gonna lie… I cried…

We need more people like this

Goddamn it stop making me feel human

The therapist I wanna be.

Text in the image:

“I’m a therapist and keep this poster in my waiting room, apparently it’s saved a few lives.”

I don’t like the phrase “a cry for help.” I just don’t like how it sounds. When somebody says to me, “I’m thinking about suicide. I have a plan: I just need a reason not to do it,” the last thing I see is helplessness.

I think your depression has been beating you up for years. It’s called you ugly, and stupid, and pathetic, and a failure, for so long that you’ve forgotten that it’s wrong. You don’t see any good in yourself, and you don’t have any hope.

But still here you are: you’ve come over to me, banged on my door and said, “HEY! Staying alive is REALLY HARD right now! Just give me something to fight with! I don’t care if it’s a stick! Give me a stick and I can stay alive!”

How is that helpless? I think that’s incredible. You’re like a marine: trapped for years behind enemy lines. Your gun has been taken away, you’re out of ammo, you’re malnourished, and you’ve probably caught some kind of jungle virus that’s making you hallucinate giant spiders.

And you’re still just going, “GIVE ME A STICK. I’M NOT DYING OUT HERE.” “A cry for help” makes it sound like I’m supposed to take pity on you, but you don’t need my pity. This isn’t pathetic. This is the will to survive. This is how humans lived long enough to become the dominant species.

With NO hope, running on NOTHING, you’re ready to cut through a hundred miles of hostile jungle with nothing but a stick, if that’s what it takes to get to safety.

All I’m doing is handing out sticks.

You’re the one saying alive.

I legit cried at this. I’ve needed to hear it put this way. Bless this post.

Every time I see this post I stop to read the whole image. It always helps — even on the good days.

Because it wasn’t weakness. It wasn’t shameful to seek help. It wasn’t pathetic to “cry for help”. I was looking for a stick, be that from myself or from someone else. I was trying to find a way out. I was trying to heal myself.

this is fuckin incredible.

I’m sorry if I repost to many of these, but if it could be someone’s “stick” then it’s worth it

For anyone that needs to read this today.

They also have this one and I think quite a few others but these two I keep on my phone and pull up on my bad days.

Text on second poster:

‘WHY ARE YOU SO LAZY?’

But you’re not lazy. Lazy is when you shrug things off because you can’t summon up the give-a-damn. When you’re curled up tight in your chair at your desk, alone and grey and desperately wishing that you had your life in order, that you did all those things you had to do, that it didn’t feel like breaking rocks just to feed and clothe yourself and get some sleep, that’s not lazy.

People don’t understand. You tell them “It’s hard.” They tell you “No it isn’t, you’re just lazy.”

You start to wonder if they’re right.

is breaking those rocks easy for everyone else? Are they that much stronger than you?

They don’t look like they’re struggling.

“Just try harder,” they say. But you’re trying. It’s not working.

Breaking boulders in your path until you’re spent isn’t lazy. And you do it day after day after day.

You’re not lazy. Most people don’t have those rocks to break. They don’t even know what it’s like to have to break rocks to get things done. They don’t understand how hard you have to work, and how hopeless you can feel, when you try and fail to do what they do so easily. Things are harder for you. They really are. And if those people had to deal with your problems, they wouldn’t be doing any better.

You’re not lazy. You’re not weak. You’re fighting hard. I guess I just want you to know that I know that.

Reenactor throws a spear at a drone

Avatar

What a time to be alive.

“The medieval warrior, realizing the consequences of his impulsive act, immediately approached the owner of the drone and offered to pay for the damage.

The owner of the drone was so impressed by the brilliant attack that he suggested organizing a competition for bringing down “dragons” with short spears next year.

Drone owners have another year to develop a unique “dragon-like” design for their flying machines.” (x)

I am 100% cooler with this knowing that the spear-thrower realized “oops maybe I shouldn’t have done that” and tried to make it right, and that the guy who the drone belonged to was cool with it

just so everyone knows, this has already been memorialized in a runestone

Everything about this post blesses those involved with a +4 on their next Today is Good Day roll

I crack up every time at seeing that runestone.

The second girl at least read the book to confirm that it was shit, she even had Capote on deck as backup. Chick 1 is just lazy

Nope. Girl 2 saw that Girl 1′s absolutely accurate analysis was being shut down just because it wasn’t stated in an intellectual way (in spite of its validity). So Girl 2 reinforced Girl 1′s opinions in solidarity and made sure that it was absolutely clear that Girl 1 was factually correct. WITHOUT taking credit for her observations (”kim is right” instead of “Actually, kim”)

Girls supporting Girls.

Girls not letting other girls be treated poorly.

If you read thirty pages of a book and hate it, that’s a good analysis. Girl 1 literally said, “It sucked for these reasons, and I only got through 30 pages.” She was absolutely paying attention and trying to get it. But if all you get is a headache, fuck that book.

These policies can help to improve the mental health of students

If the point is for the children to learn, then why wouldn’t you give them as many chances as it takes? What is the benefit of telling a child “you failed and that’s the end of it”?

I’m 25, and in my trade school, our tests aren’t judgement, they’re testing to see what we’ve retained, and identify what we’re missing.

If I weld a joint, and the CWI comes up behind me with a radiographic test for it and finds that I just laid hot metal on cold metal or it looks like a sponge inside, you know what’s gonna happen? You think they’re gonna give me a low score and tell me to move on? Fuck no. They’re gonna hand me a grinder and tell me to take it out and put it in right.

When there’s actual work to be done, we don’t leave it at the first attempt if that attempt was shit. We don’t leave a trail of “what’s done is done.” If it takes you four attempts, that’s what it takes, and next time it’ll take fewer because you learned how to do it right after the third time.

School, as it’s set up, with unforgiving deadlines and single attempt high stakes tests are building a shitty work ethic. It says “I tried once, and that’s all you’re getting.” It sets you up to leave a trail of cut losses and barely or unfinished projects as you scramble to get something, anything, turned in before the deadline.

And we wonder now why nothing works at launch.

This is one of many reasons why I think exams are worthless as a pedagogical method, and got rid of them from all of mine. They just don’t mimic any real world scenario.

In the real world, you can always look up and double check stuff. In the real world, if it turns out you were wrong you don’t just walk away and write it off, you go back and redo it. I think they encourage a useless and unproductive mindset. (To say nothing of the way they only test short term memorisation, not long term learning and understanding.)

RWBY Malachite Twins REAL Allusion

Ok so I was just randomly watching the Yellow Trailer today and everything just hit me at once so I’m just writing down whatever I came up with during that time.

So Yang is based off of Goldilocks, right. And her Trailer is based on the story. Goldilocks (Yang) gets to the house (club) and breaks everything (nuts/people/club itself/etc) and comes upon the bears (DJ, Junior). It took a while, but people were eventually able to catch onto the storytelling going on in the trailer. The one thing they were having trouble with was where the Malachite Twins fit into the equation. And although there has seem to been an agreed allusion found, I believe it can be driven into something BIGGER.

Basic research will reveal that they are based on Rose Red and Snow White. The pair come across a bear and take care of it, with the bear eventually revealing himself to be a prince. On the surface, this can easily be translated to Melanie and Militia being bodyguards of Junior, the bear manager (prince) of the club. Yeah cool whatever.

But guys, this is Yang’s trailer. This is the Goldilocks story. So where do they fit in?

You guys

YOU GUYS

The Malachite Twins are TOO HOT and TOO COLD

In the Goldilocks story, the young girl tries some of the bear family’s porridge. She complains that the dad’s food is “too hot” and the mom’s is “too cold”. But when she gets to the Baby Bear’s bowl, it’s “just right”. In the Yellow Trailer, Yang fights the twins, too hot (Militia, Red) and too cold (Melanie, White), to get to her real opponent, Baby Bear (Junior).

More details I found looking at his page: He works as a cnc designer professionally for biomedical and aerospace industries and he designed and manufactured this himself. None of the eyes he’s made (he’s made MANY!) are 3D printed, they’re machined, medical grade titanium so they don’t get hot from the LED and are safe to use as a prosthetic. He wants to make them for other people at some point, but says he has a lot of research and development to do before that can happen.

I may be stupid but I really dont think there's much more to being a good person than "do not add to the suffering in the world"

I'm not in a position to enact meaningful change, I have to work hard every day just to take care of myself, but like, the least I could do is not be a bigot. That's something anyone can do. I can just live my humble, small life, and as long as I don't hurt people, and I help people when I see an opportunity that I'm capable of safely contributing to, I think that's probably enough
