There was a point where a bunch of stuff was 50% off on PS so I DID get the FFX remaster, Okami remaster, and SOTC remake after finishing the SMT3 and FFIX remaster. Still haven't started Tactics Ogre remaster. So.... ..I am just tooooo busy to play new games ahah

Honestly I don't know my own process and that's part of it I suppose? I haven't tried recording anything in forever, but I'm not sure if I could handle the embarrassment of showing how crazy I am messing with colors and whatnot.

My process is basically: silhouette/shape -> stuff inside the shape -> stuff outside the shape
I always start with a blob that is the entire hair shape, nothing detailed. For example with a ponytail I would include the entire tail or at least a vague shape to show where I want it to sit or swing, but I am not concerned with the area at or around the head at this point. After that is when I add darks to the roots/dense areas and lights to the opposite/less dense areas. This part is what starts cutting up the shape into the different sections of hair depending on the style. The way I do my brushstrokes at this point would match the hair texture and direction. Like with most things I think these earlier steps should be down before sweating the details, so once I'm satisfied with that is when I actually start tapering ends, adding stray hairs, adjusting the shape around the head, adjusting color, etc.
I think that's it. It's one of those things I don't think about so I start getting confused when thinking deeply but it seems to work.

Honestly I just use stuff off Google or ancient tumblrs based on models that haven't updated since 2017 lol. I wish I was savvy enough for 3d modeling and whatnot buuut nope, so it depends on the character(s), mood, etc. I am going for. If I am not sure I will sometimes scroll randomly until I see something with good contrast or interesting shadows and decide to run with that.
