Eternal WIP

@lyraeon / lyraeon.tumblr.com

I can't figure out if or how to format this thing anymore so y'all get the dumb squashed version: Lyra Kamiya, aka Lyraeon Ficcer, aka Lyarrah Kalamari (just call me Ly, it's easier) | 35 ⬩ she/her ⬩ ENFP ⬩ ♋ ⬩ Montana ⬩ Pan ⬩ Polyam | Eevee trainer, Minecrafter, tank main, Maid of Mind, fiction writer, sea creature enjoyer, serial procrastinator. You probably know me better as Lyarrah. (either that or you've been on this site for far too long) This is at once the life that existed before I became Lyarrah, and the life I am embracing once more as I discover new things about my identity and who I am most comfortable being. While I will reblog fanart and such from my content creation life, and am fine answering questions etc, this blog should be seen as "IRL me" not as part of my content creation. Basically what I am saying is, this will be a space filled with memes, therapy revelations, and politics, not stream schedules and timelapses. If you are only interested in following me for content creation reasons, you may prefer my Twitter or Discord. I mostly use tags for rambling and to mark stuff I want to find again, but if you need something tagged for comfort reasons, let me know and I will do so. my two favorite types of punctuation are ellipses and exclamation marks brcause of my pensive yet excitable nature

This week:

A 19 year old passenger with her baby, who only spoke spanish, missed her connecting flight due to weather and would have been stuck sleeping in the airport but my co flight attendant (who spoke spanish) booked her commuter hotel for her and gave her a free room for the night

Another passenger missed her connecting flight home but since she lived just under an hour from me I gave her a ride from dc to virginia beach

My pilot was contacted by the wife of a pilot he'd flown with (who later killed himself) because she'd found a photo of their crew at dinner, so now he takes group photos of every crew he hangs out with, just in case

Another passenger missed her connecting flight and was crying because her mom was in hospice so 2 other passengers who did not know her offered to rent a car and carpool down to jacksonville together

An actor who I will not name but who I'm a huge fan of was in line at the airport pizza place in front of me and my co flight attendant (also a fan) and we were trying so hard to be cool about it and he could tell and he paid for our food because "You all take such good care of us in the air, we should take care of you on the ground."

The van driver for our new orleans overnight heard me say I was vegetarian but wished I could try authentic gumbo and called his friend who is a chef and then drove us to the restaurant where I was given a creole style vegetarian gumbo he'd improvised

After a terrible night which saw me and my co flight attendant trying for 4 hours to get hotel rooms from our airline, the night clerk at a hotel finally took over the phone call and reprimanded them on our behalf, dictating the exact paperwork she needed sent over and then expedited the process so she could give us rooms

When I was little I showed a flight attendant a picture of a ladybug life cycle I drew myself, and he sat down in the empty seat on the other side of the aisle and drew a flipping plane and holy cow that was the first experience I had of someone drawing and drawing amazingly well. I wonder how he's doing...

I still have the drawings! And the notebook!

The notebook in question:

The terribly childish drawings in question:

LOOK AT THIS

I DIDN'T EVEN REALISE HE'D WRITTEN MY NAME

Flipping heck 🤣🤣🤣

Oh yeah, this was a Virgin Australia domestic Brisbane to Sydney flight which I'd done with my family multiple times at this point.

Btw I was 8.

Gerome Gardiner, I have cherished this drawing all throughout my childhood, and if you ever see this, thank you for taking the time on a pretty empty flight to draw me something with such beauty that I have carried it throughout my life.

But I feel I should apologise because I have not kept up my drawing skills and neither have I had much time or energy to do so 😅

I paint pictures with words now ✒️📖💻

One day I'll show you one of my stories! 😁

"Arts 'N Crass" [S2 Ep01]

Fucking LOVED this episode cuz I 100% expected Daria's mom to side with the principle cuz she's the adult. It was refreshing to see a parent stand up for their kid instead of blindly siding with the fellow authority figure

Okay guys I have NEVER recommended anything here other than books and hashtag not sponsored BUT. I just got my Nike Go FlyEase shoes and they are a disability GAME CHANGER for me.

[img desc: a person steps onto an odd looking sneaker which is folded partially in half. the shoe closes around their foot as they step down]

They are a funky little shoe that literally FOLDS in such a manner that they can be put on and off entirely without your hands; you can just step in and out of them.

The history of them is actually very interesting; the FlyEase line was always designed with disability in mind (the first one was inspired by a teenager with cerebral palsy, Matthew Walzer). They've been a thing for years but they never had one that particularly stood out to me amongst other similar shoes... until the Go.

You see, along with being someone who has only a few bends in me per day before it's all over, I'm also a fall risk. Like a comical fall risk. I've fallen into traffic. I will just roll over and die at a moment's notice. And most slide on shoes are unstable and slip around on your foot. This shoe clamps onto me like a goddamn vice. It's Got Me. It's also got good arch support which is like, a plus. By freeing up a bunch of bend-overs per day, this is going to leave me with a lot more ability and energy, especially on the bad days.

They sound too good to be true (I was VERY skeptical buying them despite the video review), but seriously, you can just step into them--and out of them by stepping on that chonky back heel there. God knows I'm not the only person with difficulty sliding on heels or tying laces in the world, so I thought I would be remiss if I didn't recommend them. If you think they might help you out, they probably WOULD, as they were recommended to me by Footless Jo, an amputee YouTuber, and as mentioned, were inspired in part by people with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy to past strokes.

They're Pricey but ultimately average when it comes to Nice Shoes(tm), the ones I got were $125.

Kikiz is the company that developed this specific tech! Nike opted to fund them rather than buy them out, in part because a lot of their workers were old Nike employees.

“Progress Shark” outside the Australian Museum, ahead of Sydney Mardi Gras/World Pride Festival 2023.

More flags should be inflatable sharks

Ok this is making me go insane because. that’s a photoshop. it absolutely is, someone’s edited a progress pride flag onto the shark.

you can see spots where the red is misaligned with the top of the body and even extends slightly beyond it. the lines of the flag don’t conform to the shape of the shark’s body at all. you can see the gills through it as if it’s at like 70% opacity.

but like. the progress pride shark is real and it looks like this:

yknow. cause it’s a flag wrapped around a model shark.

why was this edited????? it’s a real thing but for some reason someone edited a digital flag over it instead of just using a real photo of the real thing??? why????

As climate change increases the temperature and makes larger portions of spring and summer days unbearable we can, must, and should bring back and universalize the siesta. I want to clock out after lunch and go tf to bed. Humanity already solved the "it's too damn hot out to work" problem in tropical and subtropical societies the world over and more than ever we need to unionize for naptime.

wild that "you can't delete things from the internet; it's there forever" used to be just common wisdom and now we're at risk of losing extensive internet archives and tech companies are starting to wipe out huge swathes of inactive accounts and old data as well as delete and censor things they arbitrarily deem "inappropriate"

It's because we wanted to support the creators.

It's because this generation who grew up downloading tracks off Kazaa and burning them onto mix CDs, and torrenting fansubbed anime, and recording Toonami right onto VHS tapes, and reading manga quickly at Borders on Friday afternoon because we couldn't afford to buy all of them, heard all the creators and studios say, "quit stealing the art". And so as we started getting the money to pay, we did, and we especially rewarded companies for giving us options that made more sense for us.

First Redbox, then streaming services. We grew up on Blockbuster, "borrowing" something we only intended to watch once sounded about right!

Then games started trying to get us to buy not rent by having DLCs and stuff to pay separately, and we started having to pay to use online services.

Then Netflix became Netflix and Hulu became -and Amazon Prime and YouTube Premium and Disney+ and Max and 20 other things where yup, you might as well just be paying for cable again.

We all dropped cable cuz it was $60 a month for 2 channels we wanted and 80 we didn't, and then another $15 for each additional package of 1 channel we wanted and 10 we don't.

We started paying for Patreon, and Twitch subscriptions, and so on because we like the freedom to just pay this one artist for this one thing, we want to be able to reward the creators of the things and their teams directly.

And companies keep trying to find more ways to snag more of that cut, and bloat things, and get you hooked on other things you don't care about so they can then... what? cancel it?

We just want to support the creators. We pirated and torrented when we were in an era where we had no way to do so because we just couldn't afford it, because we were broke kids, and once we could give back we started trying to.

And yet here we are again.

WTFromantic is always gonna be one of my favorite aro spectrum labels. What a great word. Honestly looking at your feelings and going “WTF???” and then deciding “actually that’s my identity. my romantic orientation is WTF” is such a power move. is it platonic attraction? is it romantic attraction? who knows, but it’s something alright.
