Technically ya'll weren't supposed to see any of the Stalwart Generals in the Shadow of the King au until their designs were finalized.

But also I'm proud of this so have two Marshals for the price of one.

Before I move on to my usual content, I would like everyone to know that this gibbon lives rent-free and in luxury in my brain.

I currently have more sketches of Cháng-bì Yuán than anyone else in the SotK au.

Red Son Week 2021

Day 6: Reverse Au / Insert Ship

Woah, I'm actually super proud of this one.

Also, I got way too attached to this AU and came up with a whole story for it.

Red Son comes into Sun Wukong's custody a little after his father is imprisoned under the mountain. 500 years later, Red Son is now fighting for the side of good, and tries his best to become a hero for Wàn Qiān Chéng. Overall, things are going well...until his father is released from his imprisonment.

Qi Xiaotian was taken in by Princess Iron Fan when he was a little kid living in the streets. He is raised up and trained by PIF, but struggles to exist as a human in an ancient yaoguai's court. He spends years trying to figure out how to release DBK. Turns out that was the easy part.

I'm calling it the Redd Kid Au

Quick theory:

So, I think we're all in agreement that the gang is going to find the True Fire of Samadhi considering the symbol on the map matches the same one on the back of Red Son's jacket:

So, the True Fire of Samadhi needs to be used as weapon according to Monkey King, and in the original Journey to the West, Red Boy was the one who wielded against Wukong. It is well known as one of Wukong's only weaknesses.

So the Fire needs someone to wield it and we haven't seen the Demon Bull Family thus far, plus Mk is the main character, so it's unlikely that Red Son will hold it.

Which brings me to this:

Which is what the Lady Bone Demon shows Wukong when they meet in the Spider Queen special.

According to her, everyone meets their destiny and so far she hasn't been wrong. She shows the mech to Sun Wukong, she releases it in the season finale. She tells Mk she'd take his staff, and, granted she didn't need it right then, but she eventually took it.

When Wukong escapes with Mk, she doesn't chase after him. She just smirks. Which is the same thing she did when she first met Mk and look what happened later.

The vision looks like Mk is burning, and he's also screaming in pain. Which makes me think that Mk will try to wield the fire, but he won't be able to control it. And, unless something is done, it'll consume him.

Which is what Wukong was trying to avoid by leaving him alone, little did he know that he is still following his destiny.

Sun Wukong Comparison

Monkie Kid vs Journey to the West:

Since I'm reading Journey to the West at the same time as watching Lego Monkie Kid, I decided to compare styles of Wukong and holy crap it looks like two different people drew this.

Anyway, it's the show style vs my hc for book Wukong. I think the differences are pretty clear, so there'll be no confusion to what I'm referring to when I draw them.

Welp, I'm more awake now, and I don't think I'll be deleting the Happily Ever After AU post (though I need to find a better name for it).

And my mind is still filled with baby monkeys

So have cub Wukong and Macaque sleeping under the stars/trees in a little makeshift nest. (They're not supposed to be on the ground without a big monkey with them, and especially not at night. But when have these two ever followed rules?). Then having a lazy morning because I couldn't decide which one to post.

No one knew the true origins of the Six Eared Macaque. He'd been found after a storm, cradled in the smoking remains of a rock blasted by lighting. By all means, it was an unlikely find. It was the night of a new moon and his fur was nearly as dark as the night sky. Clouds had blocked the stars, threatening to send another torrent of rain. Large rocks and the waterfall had hidden him from both eye and ear. Yet, there the cub had been seen, peacefully asleep, as though heaven hadn't released its fury just hours before.

Sun Wukong often wondered what would've been if just one thing had changed that night. If he'd taken the patrol on the western border like he'd planned. If he'd accepted the invitation to one of the other Demon Kings' extravagant parties. If he had gone to meet the trespassing river demon instead of sending General Ma. If even just the wind had blown in a slightly different direction, or if the frogs had been croaking just a little louder. Then maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't be staring into the face of all his mistakes.

His master had once told him it was futile to focus what could've been, to sink into the ugly mud that was the errors of the past. The Monkey King knew there was wisdom in the words, but he couldn't bring himself to move on from that one regret.

He was the one who found Xiao Liu'Er after all.
