A small Japanese puffer fish is the creator of one of the most spectacular animal-made structures. To impress the female puffer fish, the male labors 24 hours a day for a week to create a pattern in the sand. If the female finds his work satisfactory, she allows him to fertilize her eggs. She then lays them in the middle of the circle, leaving the male to guard the eggs alone.

The Elysia chlorotica, more commonly known as the Eastern Emerald Elysia, is a species of green sea slug that is found along the east coast of the United States. The juvenile sea slugs feed on intertidal algae but instead of digesting the entire cell contents, it retains only the algal chloroplasts by storing them in their extensive digestive system. Over time, these chloroplasts are incorporated into the slug’s cells and the slug is able to undergo photosynthesis as a means of obtaining energy.

In May of 2015, the first warm blooded fish was discovered. Lampris guttatus (otherwise known as Opah or Moonfish) is a deep-sea dwelling endotherm, meaning it internally regulates its body temperature. This is very unique because all other fish are ectotherms and rely on the environment as their heat source. The Opah’s endothermic nature means that it can swim faster, see better, and respond to its environment quicker.
Morocco’s Argania trees are infested with goats that eat the nuts and fruits that it produces. Local farmers condone and even cultivate this bizarre feeding practice because after the goats finish eating the fruit and nuts off the tree, they pass valuable clumps of seeds which are then pressed to create the sought after Argan oil.
