so tell me,, have u always been silly ?
ye pretty much

People find job applications needlessly stressful because they don't have multiple updated copies of their CV and cover letters for different types of jobs
I'll probably update my CV and cover letter even though I don't plan to go anywhere for years. My job responsibilities will likely change and I don't want to forget something that could help me in a few years
I'm NOT an organised person otherwise lol I just like money and I have a plan
I'm so bad at being professional. I don't understand it at all. Like the vocabulary is different but also the way you talk is different and I'm so bad at selling myself.
It takes practice. It's a skill you have to learn with lots of trial and error. Luckily there's lots of good advice online now. Content about job hunting, CV building advice is the one place where it's really good.
Once I went to a recruiter fresh out of uni in my jeans and vest top and she never called me back lol. I didn't realise I had to dress up for my first visit.
Professionalism and job hunting is a skill. Don't worry too much
I get feeling frustrated and embarrassed about where you are in life, especially if you have a shit customer service job ( I've had many ) and then you hear someone bring up sparkling water lol but the level of insecurity that's causing so many young people to project villainy onto female office workers as if you can't be poorly paid , exploited or come from a similar background as them is out of control
I've already been called a girlboss once by an insane zoomer because I think women should pursue education and or training. At this point, what's even the criticism? Don't apply for jobs where men can't threaten me face to face ? Don't try to secure better work conditions by getting a nicer job ? ( Easier said than done )
Say you work in an office and some people online act like you make spreadsheets for an arm's dealer
Do you have any advice on how to hang onto hope and keep your spirits up when job hunting?
Don't apply for lots of jobs. You should try to stick to applying to certain types of jobs. It might help to take time out to figure out what that is and have a shortlist of the types of jobs you want
Restrict job hunting to select periods of the day or certain days. Job hunting all day is a waste of time. Don't spread yourself thin
Don't look for jobs for long periods of time
Go for a walk and take yourself out to places ( libraries, the market etc )
Do your hobbies
Job hunting is a skill and if you really find yourself struggling it may help figuring out what job skills you can improve to help yourself
See if there's any free job hunting, CV building or interview skills workshops. Even if it's not helpful, or you know those skills, the point is to get outside feedback to get you out of your head and have human interaction. Half the battle of job hunting is knowing the titles of the jobs you're qualified for and these workshops can introduce you to more career options
The content online by job coaches on Instagram is very good
When applying for a job, check Glassdoor or YouTube to see if anyone has posted anything about the application process or what the job is like
Before you start job hunting, fix up your CVs and cover letters and create a document where you list answers to scenarios you might be asked to write for job applications
Job hunting shouldn't take up most of your time
When I was looking for my current job I spent maybe 20 to 30 minutes job hunting every other day BUT I had money so I wasn't in a massive rush lol. You can spend lots of time applying if you're very desperate but you should always be strategic
Sometimes you might need to not apply for jobs for a few days or a week
Once you understand the job hunting process, you can be really laid about it. Usually I will only apply for jobs that fit my criteria and commute time. I'm not commuting for more than an hour lol nor do I take jobs that force me to use the Central Line in London lol but London is well connected enough that you can usually find a way around.
Most job hunting is about effective research and getting enough sunlight and sleep
Thank you!! 💕💕 This is all such good advice, and I managed to miss every single bit of it with my job hunt last year and got burnt out after a couple of weeks of basically non-stop searching/applying.
For me the battle is to get out of my all-or-nothing mentality, view it as little steps to get somewhere good rather than a mad, depserate and, ultimately, unsustainable search. I really don't know what I'm doing, despite all the cv/interview/soft skills workshops I've taken in the past. I have a degree and I've volunteered, but this is so so new and so intimidating. It feels like they're too many (not good) options and too few at the same time. It gives me hope to hear from people who manage to navigate it all.
Thank you for your advice. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that you took time to lay it out so simply!
Welcome
It's very overwhelming if you don't know what you're doing and I didn't for a while but there's so much more info out there, you will learn and it won't feel this crap. Job hunting never feels great but it doesn't have to wipe you out either
I have a ' job blah ' tag with other job hunting and CV questions I've answered. All of this comes with time and experience. You're just starting out so you'll make mistakes. It sounds like you need to learn how to talk about your skills, experience and what words to use on your CV + applications and figure out jobs you'll be able to get. It sounds like a lot but once you start this process, it makes every job you apply for easier to do and less stressful
All very learnable : )
im gonna be real i do think we need to spend more time as a society encouraging adults to play pretend in structured ways bc what i’m getting from a variety of sources is we all like to make fake shit and pretend to be people we are not
No fr adults would be a lot healthier if their need for play was more easily satisfied. Play is a fundamental human need that does not go away when we exit childhood but it’s treated as childish and frivolous. No bitch that’s how we process our experiences and knowledge and practice emotions of all kinds in a safe space!! Learn how to play again!
what bugs me about it is every other animal on earth engages in play behaviors all the time. for their entire lives. yet for humans for some reason play isn’t considered normal once you’re a certain age? come on bro. crows are rolling down peoples windshields and sheep are jumping on trampolines. go have fun too
grad school is weirdly psychologically straining. idk how to explain it. But my advice is basically. If you're considering something drastic, also consider things that are less drastic. If you're considering quitting, then also consider threatening to quit. If you're considering suicide, consider quitting. Whatever drastic thing you're consdiering because you're about to fail a class or a candidacy exam, also consider just failing and continuing anyway. You know? It's not waht you wanted, but if you're already considering something outside of the sapce of stuff you wanted, consider all the stuff less drastic than it too
good advice, not specific to grad school
Hi mjalti, love seeing you on my dash.
Wanted to ask your advice. I have a male coworker who is super competitive with me. He kisses everyone’s ass but repeatedly disrespects me and doesn’t let me speak in meetings. I’m a woman in the most junior position on our team, and I look young. But I know I’m more capable than him. What would you do? How do I make myself more visible? Tbh I want to crush him, but I don’t know if I have the heart.
maybe he
1) is immature and has feelings for you but doesnt know how to voice himself
2) is immature and knows you’re better than him and wants to crush you first
Either way, address it with questions. “What did you mean by that?” “can you clarify that statement for me?” “I’ve noticed you treat me differently from our male coworkers; why exactly is that?” or “honestly I’m uncomfortable. why did you think that comment was appropriate?” Put him in a situation where he has to explain himself.
Document everything. Send emails to yourself, make a folder of all the instances of his inappropriate behavior and go to HR if it doesn’t stop.
On May 3rd, Google released 8 new top-level domains (TLDs) -- these are new values like .com, .org, .biz, domain names. These new TLDs were made available for public registration via any domain registrar on May 10th.
Usually, this should be a cool info, move on with your life and largely ignore it moment.
Except a couple of these new domain names are common file type extensions: ".zip" and ".mov".
This means typing out a file name could resolve into a link that takes you to one of these new URLs, whether it's in an email, on your tumblr blog post, a tweet, or in file explorer on your desktop.
What was previously plain text could now resolve as link and go to a malicious website where people are expecting to go to a file and therefore download malware without realizing it.
Folk monitoring these new domain registrations are already seeing some clearly malicious actors registering and setting this up. Some are squatting the domain names trying to point out what a bad idea this was. Some already trying to steal your login in credentials and personal info.
This is what we're seeing only 12 days into the domains being available. Only 5 days being publicly available.
What can you do? For now, be very careful where you type in .zip or .mov, watch what website URLs you're on, don't enable automatic downloads, be very careful when visiting any site on these new domains, and do not type in file names without spaces or other interrupters.
I'm seeing security officers for companies talking about wholesale blocking .zip and .mov domains from within the company's internet, and that's probably wise.
Be cautious out there.
A malicious actor sets up a page with an auto-downloader squatting on a domain name that matches a common zip file name like photos DOT zip. This website is set up to start an auto downloader upon being visited, downloading a zip file with the same name as the URL which contains malicious software (virus, worm, keylogger, etc).
Scenario.
Someone you know well sends you an email or text with promised photos attached. The email even reads something like this.
Because .zip is now a TLD, that plain text is automatically formatted into a link to malicious actor's website without them having to send you anything.
Folk with family with iPhones or iPads that are sent multiple photos in one go might be familiar with iCloud's tendency to automatically compile them into zip file for the sender and less savvy tech users have trouble NOT doing that.
These same less savvy users, or even just someone just not thinking in the moment, will click that .zip link, not realizing it isn't the the same as clicking on the promised attachment.
They download a file that matches the name they expected. They open it because they were expecting that file and it's from a trusted source. Except the file they downloaded isn't the one that was sent by their trusted source and now they have malware.
Another Scenario.
An IT person tries to send you an email with instructions on how to resolve a problem with a commonly used filename like install-repair DOT zip or to install new software like microsoft-office DOT zip.
The email may start with instructions of where to go get the legitimate file to do the install or repair, but now a line later in the instructions is also has a link to a .zip URL. A user, already frazzled by IT problems, may click it to ensure they have the right file. Again, they download malicious code from a squatting website or it prompts them with a fake login and now the squatting website has stolen their login credentials for a legitimate site. All due to an expected email from a trusted source.
Above you can see microsoft-office DOT zip is already out there with a fake Microsoft login screen waiting to steal your credentials.
These risks are already out there now because the TLD has been activated.
Plain text on old post are already being resolved into links to the new websites.
Here you can see a tweet from 2021, long before .zip was a domain name, now resolves that plan text into a clickable link. You'll start seeing this everywhere, and malicious actors do not have to lift a finger to send it to you.
Yes, a lot of users aren't going to click that, but a lot of folk will. Whomever is squatting on photos DOT zip domain name has made a one time payment to have access to anyone that ever sees that file name typed out.
In an example of an existing squatter site, clientdocs DOT zip is exactly one such pre-setup .zip domain name that initiates an automatic download. This one may be harmless, but the set ups are already out there and waiting to catch folk.
It's an unnecessary and risky can of worms that's been opened up.
Holy Unforced Errors, Batman.

Why are university students talking about using chatgpt t9 do their work as if thats normal and dandy and okay You are fuckin mentally slow bitch dont be proud of that ur brain is melting inside your dumb thick skull and ur gonna die giving head to a cellphone
You are always, without exception, allowed to critically evaluate the information presented to you and make up your own mind about it. This is baseline human dignity; to deny it is abusive. Resist anyone, even the loudest and most influential voices, who tells you that allyship requires subordinating your own capacity for critical thought. You do not owe anyone that.
Fantasy books written by women are often assumed to be young adult, even when those books are written for adults, marketed to adults, and published by adult SFF imprints. And this happens even more frequently to women of color.
This topic’s an ongoing conversation on book Twitter, and I thought it might be worth sharing with Tumblr. And by “ongoing,” I mean that people have been talking about this for years. Last year, there was a big blow up when the author R.F. Kuang said publicly that her book The Poppy War isn’t young adult and that she wished people would stop calling it such. If you’ve read The Poppy War, then you’ll know it’s grimdark fantasy along lines of Game of Thrones… and yet people constantly refer to The Poppy War as young adult – which is one of its popular shelves on Goodreads. To be fair, more people have shelved it as “adult,” but why is anyone shelving it as “young adult” in the first place? Game of Thrones is not at all treated this way…
Rebecca Roanhorse’s book Trail of Lightning, an urban fantasy with a Dinétah (Navajo) protagonist has “young adult” as its fifth most popular Goodreads shelf. The novel is adult and published by Saga, an adult SFF imprint.
S.A. Chakraborty’s adult fantasy novel City of Brass has “young adult” as its fourth most popular Goodreads shelf.
Tasha Suri’s Empire of Sand, an adult fantasy in a world based on Mughal India, has about equal numbers of people shelving it as “adult” or “young adult.”
Book Riot wrote an article on this, although they didn’t address how the problem intersects with race. I also did a Twitter thread a while back where I cited these examples and some more as well.
The topic of diversity in adult SFF is important to me, partly because we need to stop mislabeling the women of color who write it, and also because there’s a lot there that isn’t acknowledged! Besides, sometimes it’s good to see that your stories don’t just end the moment you leave high school and that adults can still have vibrant and interesting futures worth reading about. I feel like this is especially important with queer rep, for a number of reasons.
Other books and authors in the tweets I screenshot include:
TLDR: Women who write adult fantasy, especially women of color, are presumed to be writing young adult, which is problematic in that it internalizes diversity, dismisses the need and presence of diversity in adult fantasy, and plays into sexist assumptions of women writers.
Never forget the amount of hate R.F. Kuang got for explicitly stating that The Poppy War, one of the most triggering books I’ve ever read, should never be shelved as YA. She did so out of extreme concern of the content getting into the wrong hands without warning.
And then two days later Jay Kristoff said the same thing about Nevernight…and nothing happened.
When Toni Morrison said the grandeur of life is the attempt, not the solution… And how she went on to explain that it’s about behaving as beautifully as one can under completely impossible circumstances. The power that has, you know? It’s really just the making room for what breathes in the presence of the attempt. In the coming-to-be.
This is the one.
Q: How do you survive whole in a world where we’re all victims of something?“
Ms. Morrison: Ummm, how do you survive whole–I can’t do this quickly, for one–how can you survive whole and when we’re victims of something, um. You know that’s a nice fat, eastern/western philosophical question about ‘how do you get through’?
Sometimes you don’t survive whole, you just survive in part. But the grandeur of life is that attempt, it’s not about that solution.
It is about being as fearless as one can, behaving as beautifully as one can, under completely impossible circumstances. It’s that, that makes it elegant. Good is more interesting. More complex, more demanding.
Evil is silly. It may be horrible but at the same time it’s not a compelling idea: it’s predictable, it needs a tuxedo, it needs blood, it needs fingernails, it’s all that costume, in order to get anybody’s attention.
But the opposite, which is survival, blossoming, endurance, those things are just more compelling intellectually, if not spiritually and they certainly are spiritually. This is more fascinating job.
We are already born. We are going to die. So you have to do something interesting that you respect in between.”
It’s really funny seeing trads wanting to “return” to things that absolutely still exist they’re just too lowborn to ever get invited to
good lord

i don’t understand a single sentence in this and i’m ok with that
I haven’t stopped saying “it’s called quantum jumping, babe”
I would genuinely like to know who to blame for making these children so disconnected from the concept of imagination that they think the simpler explanation for what they’re doing is that they’re projecting their consciousness into one of infinite realities where fictional characters are real.

WHY IS IT TOPICAL
