This blog is first and foremost a safe space for art and creators. I share my own art but largely creations, from humans and nature, which I find inspiring, beautiful, intriguing and thought-provoking  ☀ instagram.com/lunaria_gold ☀

Tumblr’s (and the whole internet really) continuing restrictions of content prompted me to define what this blog is about in order to protect it as well as anyone perusing it.

I am no longer using tags (aside from rambling stream of consciousness nonsense). Artists are silenced and erased by rampant censorship as well as algorithms which grossly favour advertisers over content creators or users; so I’m not playing. I do not run the risk of tagging any words which may cause posts and art to get shadowed, flagged or banned. The art here may feature nudity, eroticism, various sexualities/genders, insects/arthropods/critters, bones, death topics in art, death or corpses in nature/natural science contexts, blood in non-realistic, nature or art context. This blog does not feature heavy gore (unless in fine arts context you’d see in any museum), violence against people or animals or hateful stuff. Enjoy :)

I happened to read your post from 2018 about Dumbledore not looking extra enough and I wanna know your feelings about Grindelwald's general manager looking ass in tSoD

Oooh boy. I won't even bother seeing the film; I am no longer interested in the franchise for several reasons. But yes, I did notice how even the evil wizard now looks like a banker working at a competing branch from Dumbledore's. They look about to have an epic duel over tax forms.

I will never understand why the people working on this series seem so dead-set against anything visually whimsical or even just COLOUR in general. Why the hell does everything and everyone look so smoggy and covered in a layer of dull ash? Did Mount Pinatubo blow its top? It doesn't look like a fantastical universe sparkling with magic, it looks like some historically dubious period film with no sunlight. I shouldn't complain though because there are no cool, ornate costumes in there to make me long for my days as a cosplayer. This saves me a lot of money and time.

The Telluric Tarot came today and it is BEYOND gorgeous! Thank you so much!!!

Hello! Thank you so much for letting me know! After the nightmare of last year it genuinely means a lot to me that you are happy with it :)

🇫🇷 Le seul moyen de défense des empuses est le mimétisme. C'est pour ça qu'elles se figent lorsqu'on les a repéré. Et dans 99% des cas, c'est très efficace!

🇬🇧 The only defense for empuses is mimicry. That’s why they freeze when spotted. And in 99% of cases, it is very effective!

I saw your post about the pre-raphaelites and I thought of this book I just got for christmas! It’s all about the women of the movement (models, artists, poets, wives, etc.) and their historic underrepresentation and contributions. It’s a coffee table book but I’m definitely reading thru it; interesting stuff. the perks of bookseller secret santa 🤓 it’s called “Pre Raphaelite Sisters” and it’s just a beautiful book! i put a pic below :-)

Oh that sounds like a wonderful book suggestion, thank you! ♥♥ It's usually so tricky to find any good information about the women operating around those art movements without having to go dig them up individually.

Got a giant essay in my head about Gabriel Dante Rossetti because I went on a deep research on the pre-raphaelites bros just trying to feel less unspeakably irritated with him but it only made it worse -_-

This essay, I would like to read it.

I love the PRB, but Rossetti… notsomuch

Alright. I’m going to spill all of it out and do my best to keep it Historical and coherent enough so that it’s not just a rant. But fair warning: This guy breaks me so it IS a pretty bitchy rambling rant.

First, to be clear, if a smaller artist, or commercial artist would have produced these paintings, I would be nowhere near as salty over it. However he is a celebrated ‘’’pioneer’’’ of a whole-ass Art Movement, in history books and museums. I always had this nagging irritation with the fact that he is as Big as he is. I couldn’t help wonder whose big shot’s coattails he’d ridden on; because the actual merit was hard to spot anywhere.

The desperate quest I undertook to try finding said merits revealed that my hunch was bang-on (details on this below). This guy is such a massive, full bingo card of mediocrity, it comes full-circle and becomes a high achievement of its own. Behold the whole mess:

He started off okay, setting off with his pals Everett Millais and Holman Hunt to shake up and piss-off the world of art (considering this was the Victorian era, it is arguably a pretty low bar but I fully respect the intent). That worked, and it produced the one painting of Rossetti I actually feel good giving points to considering he was a fledgling:

The whole point of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, was to disregard the conventions of composition, symbolism and figures which had been standard since Raphael. This painting was a great start, with the unusually graphic layout, the bold intimation that the angel is naked under his robe and Mary’s humble, hapless expression which definitely looks like someone who’s just woken up to something extremely odd going on.

It’s all downhill from there. Here’s a cut for any poor people who want to skip the rabbit hole...
