“Let’s hope that day never comes.”
keep thinking about an au where obi wan survives the death star just so luke has to deal with the fact that his special cool mentor is actually friends with someone who isn’t him
luke, watching leia and obi wan do their secret handshake: you were supposed to be MY mentor. I thought I was SPECIAL
leia: lmfao suck it he’s MY old man best friend and you can’t do anything about it
Just think about this: Leia’s gone through the shittiest day(s?) in the history of ever. She’s been tortured, shot up with fuck only knows what drugs, had her brain probed again by some Force-wielding jerk, then been forced to watch her planet, her people, her family, be blasted into dust. She’s lost virtually everyone who ever meant a thing to her.
But then this short, baby-faced kid comes in declaring that he’s there to rescue her, who claims that he not only has Artoo, but he came here with Ben Kenobi. And she realizes that there actually still is one person left that she has some kind of emotional connection to in this galaxy. Ben is here. He said if she ever needed help, they might see one another again. Leia latches onto that like a bit of flotsam after being left shipwrecked in a storm-tossed sea (or something equally poetic).
So when she finally makes it to the hangar bay (no thanks to the trio of walking disasters who are following in her wake), she’s more than ready to get TF off this monstrosity and have a moment where she can revel in the fact there is still someone she loves who is still breathing.
But then she sees Vader facing off with a man in a brown cloak. Leia’s got sharp eyes, and she takes in the situation. When Obi-Wan glances in their direction, it’s Leia’s eyes that he meets - and in that split second, she knows what he’s about to do. He’s going to sacrifice himself so that she can make it to safety. Just like ten years ago, he’s going to face off with the black monstrosity so that she and the others around her can escape.
The last time he did it, things worked out and he survived to come find her again, so that Lola could come back to her and oh gods Lola is gone too JFC. In this moment, though, Leia knows that if things follow how Ben plans them, he won’t make it back to see her again.
We’ve already seen how this end. We’ve seen it countless times since the 1970s.
But, perhaps, just once - it doesn’t happen that way. Once, Ben Kenobi told Leia what she inherited from her birth parents - that she was wise, discerning, and kind-hearted like her mother, and passionate, fearless, and forthright like her father. She’s tried to live up to those qualities, as well as the qualities that her parents gave to her - determination, drive, and so many other things that she could barely begin to name them all.
Perhaps in this moment, Leia Organa takes all of this and acts.
With a snarl of determination, she yanks the blaster from the courageous smartass next to her (moving so quickly that it almost seems as though the weapon flew into her hands rather than her taking it). At the same time, she starts firing and running forward, away from the ship, away from their escape.
She barely notices that the kid - Luke, that’s his name - follows along right beside her, following her lead.
Most of the stormtroopers go down before they can even turn to face them, and the last few fall before they can even fire a shot. Leia doesn’t pause to look at their bodies, but instead turns her blaster toward its next target.
Vader is not a stormtrooper. He is ten times more competent. Leia knows this, knows that she and Luke stand no chance against him with two measly blasters in their hands. But the goal here isn’t to take Vader down, but to distract him, for just a moment.
A moment is all that Ben needs. Whatever plan he’d formed in his head in that moment when he’d first met her eyes, he dropped it and instantly formed a new one. Throwing a single hand out, a wave of something flies at Vader, knocking him back against the wall hard. Hard enough that the impact probably dents the metal - or his helmet. Leia doesn’t really care which.
Suddenly, Ben is there, his hand gripping her arm and Luke’s in a vice-like grip and he is all but dragging them back toward the ship, whose engines are just now firing up.
The next several minutes are hectic ones as they fight off a quartet of TIE fighters, but once that is done, Leia finally turns her full focus upon the old man sitting slumped over a worn holotable.
She had once called him old, and he had once echoed the comment. But looking at him now, she sees that he most certainly was not old back then, though he would certainly qualify as such now. The red of his hair and beard are gone, leaving only a thin, dingy white in their wake. The lines run deep in his face. Leia wonders at the power of Tatooine’s suns if they can age the man she remembers into the man she sees now in just the space of a decade.
Slowly he straightens up in his seat, and opens his eyes. These, at least, are unchanged - still the lovely shade of blue that Leia remembers. Those eyes meet hers... and he smiles.
“Well, my dear,” he says, and his voice too is changed, but not so much that Leia cannot recognize it, “it seems we were destined to meet again.”
Leia flies at him, throwing herself down into the seat next to him, flinging her arms around him and burying her face in his shoulder. She hears him gasp, and she wonders if she has perhaps hurt him in her rush, but then his arms come up to return the embrace.
They’re still like that when Luke appears from the cockpit. Later on, Luke will tell Leia of the flash of jealousy he’d felt when he’d seen them sitting like that, hugging each other like two friends who had missed each other dearly. It was a silly thing to feel, and they will laugh about it, but in the moment, Leia had not even noticed that he was there.
Ben was here. All was not lost.
he is my bestie and I've had a weird week so I drew him once again for meeeee and for luke stans!! *kisses and hugs* ☀️💚💛🩵☀️

For everybody who's been here a while and felt like Wiley E. Coyote just after running off the edge of the cliff when they scrolled down to find nothing below
i love these two characters. i need to trap them in a collapsed building so they can talk about their feelings as one of them slowly bleeds out.
Finding someone that understands The Character™ the same way you do
Anyone see that recent new Obi and Anakin short comic where it showed this chaos weapon™️ Obi-Wan made as a Padawan? HAHAHA if not, here is a link to the panels! And idea credit for this goes to @agirlunderarock. Qui Gon seeing this new invention of Obi’s prob would have aged him 10 years lol. Padawan Obi was a chaos gremlin.

Excuse me while I explode over this finishing move
the funniest thing ever just happened to me
im changing my name purely bc i don’t like it and we just told my family like a month ago. i haven’t been home since then but today i got back and my (extremely country) uncle gives me a pat on the back and goes “so i hear you’re my nephew now. proud of you, son” and i have to very gently say i am so so happy to hear that but i am still his niece just with a cooler name. and he throws his hat down on the table and goes “no! but ive been practicing!” so now he is calling me his nephew for fun
i love when a character has something terrible happen to them and as a result they see themself as, essentially if not literally, a ghost. and so that means they only can (and have to) do what ghosts do, ie get revenge and then cease to exist. easy as that. but then halfway through this ghost vengeance they realize hey actually i might still be a human person. with human needs. that’s incredibly inconvenient, considering how much i’ve invested in this whole ghost thing
I love when the ghost has someone who never even known them before the trauma look at them and say "but you're still here, you still exist, you still deserve care."
It hurts. Because the ghost believes that the death of who they were is the death of everything they could be. Because it seems impossible to look at this ugly, broken, shambling thing that used to be beautiful, and they can't imagine that anything could be built from the ruins.
And this person, this insignificant, unimportant person has looked at their vengeance, the elegant, necessary end to the wreck of their life, and has decided to drag them back in the messy business of living. Kicking and screaming if they have to.

#someone tell them that men in imperial uniforms aren't supposed to look this hot
I don't think I could be trusted with shapeshifting powers bc I would just turn into a bear and attack things with my claws at any minor inconvenience. it would be my go-to solution for everything
