Hey undertale AU while I try to feel better.
Feartale
Premise: All monsters and their powers are baser on a fear. Idk what fears yet, but I know Sans is getting eyes because that's what I'm scared of (also, in the game he's constantly keeping an eye on you.) Instead of gaster blasters, they'd be big eyes that shot at you.
Since Papyrus is related to him, he'd get something similar like mouth (like, he'd have mouths on his arms and legs and the only place there isn't a mouth is where it should be.) His attacks would just talk shit about you and the words do damage. Or they bite you.
Undyne definitely gets fear of weapons. That's just her thing (maybe she has spike all over her.) No need to say what the attack is.
Alphys is obviously fear of doctors. Her attack would be needles and shit.
Mettaton would represent the whole uncanny valley thing. Fits too well with the whole robot thing.
Toriel, since she lost her own child, represents the fear of death. Her attacks would be blood related and I might add in a dead body as an attack, but I'd add a tw first.
Asgore is just gonna get the daddy issues treatment. Jokes aside, this is a real phobia. Asgore represents abiphobia (phobia of fathers). His attacks would probably be related to childhood things like stuffed animals and toys.
Now Asriel and Flowey obviously have the same fear, but it might not make sense at first when you meet Flowey. Asriel/Flowey represents a fear of change. Yeah, Flowey reset multiple times and changed so many things, but in the end he still clings onto the hope that you are Chara. He desperately wants things to be the same as they were before.
And Chara represents a fear of loosing control
And now there's you, just a scared little child have nightmares of all these monsters (yes, the au takes place in Frisk's dreams). No matter how much you explain to your parents that the dreams are real, they keep saying that they aren't and they can't hurt you. But how does that explain the cuts and scraps you have when you wake up? Or how you swear you saw Sans outside your house? As you dream, you start to learn more about this little world that you see in your sleep, as these fear become less scary.
Now, to add in a bit of mystery, let's talk about Gaster. Gaster represents two fears. Before he was shattered across the dreamscape, he represents dysmorphophobia. Now this fear is a complicated one, so I'll specify I mean dysmorphophobia as in fearing having a disfiguring condition. His attacks were originally just oddly morphed faces, and the cracks in his skull practically littered his face. But now, after being shattered, he also represents the fear of being forgotten. Parts of his body are now slightly transparent and a part of his head is missing. His attacks are now both the faces and attacks that go invisible after bouncing around the screen once. They move in a predictable pattern though, don't worry.
