new batch of @incorrect-muppet-quotes
It is actually way better for 100 addicts to get their fix on pain pills than a single person in pain go without. I call this the "Torture is bad" principle. You should be able to get the good stuff forever after a single doctor's visit. If you're worried about addicts fund rehab centers and needle exchanges instead of torturing people.
Among other things if you can't use the legit market you turn to the black market anyway.
if you're worried about addiction, build a society where people get their basic needs met, including pain management.
The torture is bad principle also applies to denying addicts access to clean and safe ways/places to use and rehab that forces cold-turkey quitting method bc forcing people through withdrawal is also torture
So I just noticed some old comments on my fics, and now I’m overthinking replying since it’s been so long. So tumblr:

how could you forget
I love it when I tell doctors that I'm a LARPer and an endurance hiker and one of the most frustrating things about chronic pain is how hard it is to go to the park and do my favorite physical activites, and they'll look at me like a dog that's just been shown a card trick and ask, "Have you tried exercising?"
Brother, you don't even know how bad I wish we could try exercising rn
Chronic illness patients: so I really like to do [physical activity] but it's gotten like, physically hard to do lately
Genius doctors: have you tried increasing your physical activity?
"I'm so fucking good at health."
me: like, i live downtown and it'd be nice to be able to take a short walk to the secondhand bookstore or that local pizza place i like, you know? i used to do that all the time but it hurts too much now
my GP: i'm gonna play devil's advocate here for a moment; if the medication isn't helping anymore, have you tried exercising?
me: [slowly consuming myself from the inside because did i not just say with my words that i used to walk around downtown and i haven't been able to anymore?]
Remember when that cop pepper-sprayed students in 2011? UC Davis paid $175K to scrub it from the internet’s memory https://t.co/5prbgrx1WL
— Xeni (@xeni) April 14, 2016
Nice try fuckers.
$175K wasted with every reblog.
Let’s make sure they DON’T get their money’s worth.
Oh hey, my 2020 vision says THE INTERNET NEVER FORGETS, MOTHERFUCKERS.
Hey, so what exactly was that cops name again…?
Lt. John Pike. It took more than two years of legal battles to get his name, and the names of other officers involved, released to the public.
He got fired… but retained his retirement benefits, and got $38,000 worth of worker’s compensation for the stress he went through after the incident.
The students collectively received $1m, with each pepper-sprayed student receiving $30,000 individually.
Yooo, game recommendation!
I just finished playing Unsighted, a 2021 game from Humble Games and Studio Pixel Punk. And oooh I have thoughts!
The way I've already seen uncountable "Netflix is hiring!" Ads. They're really just gonna hire scabs and pretend the WGA strike isn't happening....
This is a reminder to anyone who wants to go into screenwriting. This is not an opportunity to get your foot in the door. Do not take any writing jobs during the strike. This includes freelance or “script editing” jobs.
You will be a scab. Scabs are barred from union membership. By crossing the picket line to get your foot in the door you’ll be burning one of the most important bridges in your life. You will actively be harming your future job prospects.
This strike will end one day. Those writers who are out picketing will reenter the writers room and start producing work with the legal and financial protections and guarantees they’re fighting for, and you will not be among their ranks. You will be a scab. A traitor.
A lack of union membership will harm your prospects job wise. Do not scab. Knowledge of your scabbing, traitorous ways will cost you your ability to make friends in the industry. Do not scab. Support the WGA as they fight for your rights. Do. Not. Scab.
This is your periodic reminder: scabs get stabs 🔪
That’s right!
Hopper’s plushie is now available, so you can have your own personal menace storming around your home, hoarding your valuables and being really-really cute!! (Don’t mention that last part though)
This is about as unrelated as it gets, but I was once on a cooking competition show as background. I had a prep list, and while the contestants were front-stage, I was in the back of the shot, doing the prep list, looking chef-y, alongside some other BG. The prep list was double-duty, it was also making stuff for the contestants to use later, but our main job was just to make the kitchen look busier. I imagine that in most shots I was in, I was at best an out-of-focus blur behind the main shot. So at the beginning, the contestants are showing off their knife skills and making little fruit sculptures or whatever, IDGAF, and they were being interviewed at the same time. "What does cooking mean to you?" and that kind of stuff. I . . . was not supposed to be interviewed. I was BG. The interviewer apparently, did not know who was a contestant and who was BG, so they came over to me. And after all of these eloquent long-winded philosophy-and-dream guided answers, they come to me, and go "What is cooking?" And me, deep in focus on looking professional and getting the prep list done and not listening to the interviews, aware that I'm not supposed to talk or be talked to (I'm not paid for speaking lines!), but also aware I am the focus right now, but also aware that they will cut this out of the televised part and I can relax and shrug him off, but also suddenly aware there's still a live audience and I can't just shrug him off, but also confused because I didn't realize he was fishing for a deep philosophical answer: "Cooking is making food". Well. I got a laugh out of the live audience, and they must have decided to keep the line because my pay was upgraded from "SSE" (Special Skills Extra) rates to "Speaking" rates.

my cat, who can still see perfectly, watching as I bump into a table: Ah, she has toggled the switch that controls whether she is stupid.
funniest thing about the “reddit migration” is that I haven’t seen a single post shitting on anyone coming from Reddit. when twitter started bleeding users everyone was firing rent-lowering posts but with redditors skittering about we’ve left the doors open and put out food bowls
HHmm.. Let's say I open a chocolate shop.
I create a lot of chocolates, all with different tastes and ingredients, and then I sell them in my chocolate shop.
And in these chocolates, some are made with ingredients some people may not like at all, or even are allergic to. Some are even made with liquors and other alcohols, these chocolates that I keep in an alley of my shop forbidden to children.
Well guess what? My only duty here is to explicitly state which chocolate are made with which ingredients. Nothing more.
If you pick a chocolate with mint in it when you hate mint, then that's on you. Because I explicitly stated there was mint in it.
If you pick a chocolate with peanuts in it when you're allergic to peanuts, then that's on you. Because I explicitly stated there were peanuts in it.
It means that in this situation, you cannot in any way hold me accountable for your allergic reaction, because you should have been the one to either read the signs or to not be left alone in my chocolate shop if you weren't able to read them yourself.
And it's the same with liquor chocolates. If you as a minor, or your unsupervised child, enter the alley you weren't supposed to and end up swallowing alcohol, you don't have a right to go complain to me.
You weren't allowed to go there, and the best I can do is call your parents so they don't leave you alone in a chocolate shop again.
"But children love chocolates! Chocolates are for children! You shouldn't be making alcoholic chocolates in the first place!"
Stops right here, a lot of adults still love chocolates. A majority in fact, and there is no age to stop loving chocolate. And some love liquor too, which is perfectly normal, and I sell these chocolates to them.
You are allowed to not like a shop selling liquor chocolates, or any chocolates with an ingredient you can't eat, but it won't stop the fact that it's perfectly legal for me to sell them here. And the best you can do is to start learning to ignore them, teaching your children to do so while keeping an eye them, or find another chocolate shop and hoping they don't sell these chocolates as well.
That's all.
as a bi person, the bisexual flag brings me infinite joy and always puts a smile on my face, however as a person who has a Passion for Graphic Design, that undersaturated shade of purple infuriates me when it's used digitally
like, on an actual flag - which was its original purpose - it looks great!
those look fine! lovely, even! with the semi-transparent fabric, the way it catches the sunlight, it looks beautiful!
but now look at how it looks digitally
the pink and blue are so vibrant compared to the sad, lonely lavender!
and let's look at this statement from Michael Page, the creator of the bi flag:
(sidenote: he created this flag in 1998, so if his takes on bisexuality is different from yours, it's okay to notice that! a lot has changed since the 90s when it comes to lived experiences and the way we describe them. but, it's also important to respect his thoughts about this and the way he presented them, even if today, we'd probably not say that bi people "blend unnoticeably into both the gay/lesbian and straight communities.")
so in pantone colors, the pink is 226 C, the blue is 286 C, and the purple of the flag is 258 C.
but...here's the deal
Michael talks here about how the key to understanding the symbolism is to know that the purple blends into both the pink and blue. and on a physical flag, I think you can see that!
but digitally, it absolutely does not blend. it clashes badly, and looks oddly separate from the other two colors.
which got me wondering...what purple do you get if you actually blend 226 C and 286 C?
oh! oh, my god.
look at that! look at how nicely it fits between those colors!
look at it next to the original color scheme! look at how much more vibrant the purple is!
and friends. this is just blending through rgb! you get even more purple variations when you use other color spaces!
let's compare all of them:
(top: original, lab. middle: lrgb, lch. bottom: rgb, hsl)
look at all of the different purple options you can get just by combining these two colors!
if you want almost too-vibrant saturation, you can go hsl, if you want something more relaxed that's closer to the original, you can go lab or lrgb. and if you want to split the difference, lch is bright and violet, while rgb is there with its saturated but darker purple.
anyway, I guess I don't really have a point here? this isn't so much an informational post as it is Me Getting Weird About Colors, but I think it is a useful lesson about how colors look very different on screens compared to how they look on objects in real life.
and sometimes, I think it's okay to compensate for that.
out of all of these, this is my favorite bi flag:
it's the one where the colors were blended in lab color space. for me, the lighter, softer purple is close enough to the original bi flag purple, while also feeling like a smoother blend of the blue and pink
but that's just me! and it might not even look the same to you, since every screen is different, because technology is a nightmare!
anyway, thank you for coming with me on this colorful journey! I will now retreat back to inkscape and make pained sounds about inkstitch gradients until something tangible pulls me back into reality
Finally, color theory that's not in a children's hospital.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Are you sure about that?

Outstanding bisexual disaster post. Has never sat properly in a chair.
“And family history, after all, is just another kind of ghost story. So ten years ago, on a night just like tonight, when the fog lay heavy on the lowlands, a man drove his sister home. And eleven years on a night just like tonight, their mother died, and it didn’t –mean- anything, but it happened. And the sister stood by and watched it happen and the brother, talked on the radio and didn’t even know that it had happened until afterwards, and there was nothing that they could have done.”

“The average US president has been charged with 1.54 felonies” factoid isn’t true. The average US President has been charged with 0 felonies. Donald trump, who has been charged with 71, is a statistical outlier and should not have been counted
This belovéd weirdo
Unironically, this is why society would crumble without diversity
i need people to understand that when a person with a chronic illness talks about the fatigue that comes with it, we're not talking about the tiredness that comes from a 10 hour shift at work, we're talking about the inherent exhausting heavy malaise that hangs on your entire body like a weighted blanket from the time you wake up in the morning and doesn't get any lighter as the day goes on.
fatigue doesn't come from exertion. it's just innate- and when it does come from exertion, it's been worse than the innate fatigue that was already there in the first place, and it adds on top of it, not replaces it.
