Money Trees

Hammering coins into trees is an ancient tradition in the north west part of the UK in Cumbria and the north of Wales in the village of Portmeirion. According to a research conduction completed by the BCC, this practice is said to date back to the early 18th century in Scotland. It was believed that if people hammered florins into trees, it would cure them of their sickness.

“If our society really wanted to solve the problem, we could; it’s just that it would require everybody saying, ‘this is important; this is significant.’ And, that we don’t just pay attention to these communities when a CVS burns, and we don’t just pay attention when a young man gets shot or has his spine snapped, but we’re paying attention all the time because we consider those kids our kids.” —President Obama on the situation in Baltimore

We are literally witnessing the second wave Civil Rights Movement unfold in front of our eyes…….

nah man, those have directions not people just rioting to riot and steal stuff.

So you all are just going to ignore all of these marches that have been going on, just to reduce the movement to just riots and looting. How convenient because that is the same thing that the government and counter protesters did to civil rights marchers.

Oop

And are we also going to ignore the fact that the people caught stealing shit have, at least for the most part, been white, or that the ‘60s Civil Rights movement got demonized in the same damn way?

Oh, right; facts like that are inconvenient.

Republican Texas governor Greg Abbott defended today the decision to execute Mary Eldridge, a 7 month old baby, by lethal injection.

Eldridge was convicted in April under Texas’s “Defense of Women Act” which holds the fetus responsible if the mother dies of complications from her pregnancy. Many civil rights organizations have denounced the execution as unjust, but Abbott has defended the execution, stating:

“A fetus is a living human and it has the responsibilities of a living human, and if a living human kills a woman, that person must be held responsible for murder in the first degree. If we were not to execute this infant for its acts as a fetus, the sanctity of the fetus would be threatened and Pro-Choicers would have the upper hand. There is no question that Mary Eldridge is responsible for her mother’s death, and now justice has been served.”

Needless to say this defense is controversial, and the ACLU has vowed to take the State of Texas to court to prevent further infant executions. More on this story as it develops, and remember, you heard it here first on FIJMU.

Bill Nye is killing it!

Always does.

BLESS YOU BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY

Too bad those truths are only true on paper and on a college campus. ANYWHERE ELSE IN AMERICA… we are all different “races” who have been ranked from “best” to “worst” according to the tenets of white supremacy. Race may not be real… but unfortunately, racism is REAL real.

I feel like he’s addressing everyone and not just the people graduating.Like I’m sure he’s know that and that’s why he said what he said.

^ You’e missing my point. More plainly: the idea that ‘race is a social construct’ is a fact that only has appeal and currency on college campuses. That’s where I first learned it, anyway. The idea that ‘there is no such thing as race’ seems to have great appeal to sociologists, academicians, and college-educated folks in general, but it’s also one of those scientific truths that reveals the problem with ivory tower knowledge: the inability of those who earn their living in higher education to understand when their pet fact HAS NO PRACTICAL VALUE IN THE REAL WORLD.

You can play this Bill Nye commencement address in every police training class and morning roll call meeting every day for the next year, and no matter how “true” it is, racist cops are still gonna murder Black people. Because white people made race real IN THE REAL WORLD WE ALL HAVE TO LIVE IN OUTSIDE OF THE UNIVERSITY for the past few hundred years. Got it?

It’s not about telling everyone “We have to work together.” That’s general bullshit. It’s about telling white people to stop being racists and start acting like decent members of the human family. EVERYONE doesn’t have a problem with everyone else; white people have a problem with and create the majority of problems for and among non-white people. There is no such thing as black supremacy or brown supremacy or red supremacy or yellow supremacy, but ALL OF US, including white people, suffer because of white supremacy. But of course he can’t say THAT.

Tomorrow, California will vote on a bill that would require crisis pregnancy centers to tell women the truth about their reproductive health options. One politician asked why a lawmaker cared so much about the bill, and her response is PERFECT.

Supposedly haunted by the 20 “witches” who were put to death in 1692 and 1693 during the Salem Witch Trials, Salem is a popular destination for those fascinated by the paranormal and morbid. Some of the “witches” are said to haunt the place they were hanged, Gallow Hills, while other supposedly haunt other areas in the town. One of the must see sights is the House of Seven Gables, pictured above.
