reblog this if you’re jewish or your blog is a safe space for jewish people

in light of recent events as well as a new rise in creating nazi ocs I think this post is an important one to have on your blog if you stand behind your jewish followers or are jewish yourself.

american whites were just caught on footage, chasing haitian migrants on horseback with whips in their hands. on horses. with whips.

and yet, black immigrants are still completely dismissed from all conversations about the violence against immigrants. for as long as i could remember, mestizo mexicans and central americans have been the face of immigration-related abuse… so much that people wrongly assume these are the sole victims of that violence.

haitian immigrants represent a disproportionate amount (44%!) of people currently detained in ICE quarters (as of 2020), and since haiti is overwhelmingly black, most - if not all - of those figures are black people. which means the attacks on haiti are automatically attacks on blackness.

it worries me a lot how haitian migrants are being treated and have been treated by not only the united states, but the rest of latin/caribbean/south america. there have been extended violences toward haiti from the entire americas for so long, it’s naive to say that it’s not related to how black the country is. to be black is to be unthought of, and unalive.

forced migration/extermination is genocide.

and it’s so telling that people won’t bother empathizing with the victims of forced migration unless they look a certain (non-black) way.

(if i find any haiti crowdfunds for haitian immigrants, i’ll add them)

i went in the notes to see if crowdfund sources had been added in a reblog; the notes are full of "not all whites" bullshit.

(protip: if you are white in america, arguing 'does that make me racist?' then you need to examine yourself and why you personally feel attacked by a news story about antiblackness.)

here is a link to an aggregation of news stories concerning immigration to the US:

and here is a link to an article that may be a good place to start looking for who might be able to help crowdfund and advocate, though the thrust of the article regards post-earthquake aid within haiti:

thank u so muchhh, i literally just woke up & usually i see crowdfunds on twitter but i have yet to see any. i did not expect this post to get more than 100 notes so i am a bit overwhelmed eeeek

so appreciated !

The way that i was shipping Otis and Ruby as a joke when the trailer dropped and then they turn out to actually be cute AND better than Otis and Maeve when show dropped…their power

I finished watching season 3 of Sex Education and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that a lot of people felt the same way I did.

I've been so tired of Otis and Maeve. I hate how anyone that dates them ends up becoming a plot device. Jackson and Ruby are good characters and they deserved better.

I think I just don't like that Otis and Maeve are the main couple, when it's clearly obvious they have better chemistry with other people. The writers just purposefully make their other relationships fail.

(Even when Jackson and Maeve broke up in Season 1 it seemed so forced to me.)

Otis and Ruby was one of the best couples I've seen in this show. Unfortunately it was inevitable that it wasn't going to work out because in the end "Otis still loves Maeve".

Like what?? I felt like they barely interacted this season, even when they did have their moments I got nothing from it. The build up was shit.

Otis x Ruby was far more interesting and was one of the highlights of this season.

I really really like Eric with Adam and Otis with Ruby. And here's why:

Obviously with their shared history Eric has a lot to work through with Adam, but I like them a lot more than I liked Eric with Rahim.

And especially if you look at the sneak peeks of s3 and see that Otis and Ruby become much closer than before, I'm not surprised. First of all, because we all saw the end of season 2, and because, well, it all forms quite a nice theme when you put these couples together.

Both Adam and Ruby are two characters that can be very unlikeable at first glance - Adam being the resident bully of Moordale Secondary, and Ruby being the queen b, and the centre of The Untouchables.

And Otis and Eric are two people, who, fully willingly or by pure chance, got a glimpse of a different side of their respective partners, seeing them in a light nobody else saw them in before. Or even bothered to see them in.

Remember what Ruby said in season 1 to Meave and Otis, when the thing with her nudes was happening?

"I'm a bitch, Meave. I'm a bitch to everybody."

And Adam?

Close to the end of season 2 he says to Eric:

"I'm very easy to not like."

Neither of them really had any other role to play, as far as we know. All we knew them to be were a bitch and a bully, respectively.

Luckily for both of them Otis and Eric are both intelligent and empathetic, so they had the tools needed to get through their shells.

Did they have to do it?

No.

But they did it anyway.

And while yes, I like Meave, I like her a lot, I don't think she and Otis would or should be endgame.

For one, it's not uncommon in media about teenagers to have a male protagonist go for the cool, withdrawn girl nobody likes.

And we already know that Sex Education is a show that loves playing with subverting different kinds of tropes and cliches.

If it were any other show that plays out known tropes in a straightforward way, Otis would most definitely end up with Meave.

But Ruby?

We already know from interviews with the cast that we are going to see Ruby in a much different light this season. I'm personally expecting myself to cry my eyes out because of her arc this season, but I digress.

What I'm trying to say here is that we already know Meave to be a cool, intelligent and nice person, who's just protecting herself from getting hurt, hence - she's built up a wall around herself. And she's only really let Otis and Aimee in, more than any other people. Well, Jackson too, but that's a whole mess for an entirely different post.

But with Ruby, we don't really know that. That is, we are expecting from the get go that yes, this mean, smart alt girl with dyed hair definitely has a softer side. But the bitch in chief that is Ruby? Nobody cares whether or not she has any depth to her. She's popular, she's hot, she has a great fashion sense. That's all people expect or want from her. She's been playing her part very well for a very long time, but even her shell has several cracks in it already. And if we're lucky, she's going to drop the shell altogether in the 3rd season, never to pick it up again. I'm really hoping for it, because you could see when her and Otis were buying the morning after pill, that her mentioning her dad wasn't easy for her. It's the first time we ever hear anything about him or her family at all, and I think it's no coincidence that Otis of all people is there to hear it. I think that, similarly to how Eric did with Adam, Otis was the one who was meant to see this vulnerable side of Ruby.

And another thing I thought about - both Adam and Ruby are not people you'd expect to have a softer side or any redeeming qualities. Otis called Eric out when he heard about his friend's most recent history with Adam, and rightfully so. And yet I can't help but think that we are going to get a similar scene in season 3 with Otis defending Ruby in front of someone, maybe even Eric, to have the situation come full circle?

Because both of them know these people have more to them than meets the eye, and if they are both committed to defending them and being by their side, seeing them grow, perhaps all four of them can grow in the process, both as individuals and as couples?

sometimes, i just think about how Rosalie and Emmett are so perfect for each other. Rose, this beautiful woman, who’s brain is filled with knowledge unlike any other. she loves working on cars, and has multiple different degrees in multiple different careers. And Emmett, this beautiful man, who may have some TERRIBLE ideas, but in the end knows exactly how to care for Rose, just as she knows how to care for him.

like, i just imagine one day rose was having a hard day with her trauma, and Emmett just knows that taking her to a park to watch the kids play on the monkey bars and going on walks around port angeles would brighten her up. and Rose knows when Emmett is struggling with something, going bear hunting with him and probably playing some type of stupid game would make it better.

they are so perfect for each other.

9/11 is coming up - and with it, a sharp spike of anxiety that always accompanies the anniversary. each year our community deals with attacks, threats, even deaths. each anniversary i don’t leave my house. i don’t go to the masjid.

i remember the time someone shot up the side of our mosque when we were inside

i remember the time someone chased two young hijabis with a taser

i remember the time someone intentionally swerved towards me when i was crossing the street and i stood frozen in fear

i remember the time someone slipped a knife threat into my mailbox

or the times my friends and i have been verbally assaulted in crowded public spaces and nobody said a word

call out racism and islamophobia when you see it. check in on your muslim neighbors and friends. refuse to tolerate the bigotry and hate that takes lives and spreads fear - both in public and online. stand united with us against hate.

this graphic by artist @maeril (instagram, twitter), translated by The Middle Eastern Feminist, is a really helpful guide, especially for those whom confrontation is a trigger. it's helped me a lot.

[image description, from The Middle Eastern Feminist's post:

An illustrated guide to help a person being targeted by Islamophobic harassment in the public space (in the subway, in the street, etc). The illustrations describe the steps to help the person to safety. There are three characters: the person being attacked is represented as a veiled woman with olive skin, wearing a violet hijab and a lavender dress, the bystander/helper is a white woman with short burgundy hair, a striped tee and boyfriend jeans, and the attacker is a white, bearded man with hazel hair, a teal polo shirt and regular denim jeans.

The four steps are as follows:

1) Engage conversation. Go to them, sit beside them and say hello. Try to appear calm, collected and welcoming. Ignore the attacker (this is, again, very important). (the bystander goes to the veiled lady and says: "hi, how are you?")

2) Pick a random subject and start discussing it. It can be anything: a movie you liked, the weather, saying you like something they wear and asking where they got it... ( in the illustration attached to this step, the attacker has a big "IGNORED" marked on his body - the bystander talks about the weather, and a movie her sister told her about)

3) Keep building the safe space. Keep eye contact with them and don't acknowledge the attacker's presence: the absence of response from you two will push them to leave the area shortly. (in the illustration attached to this step, the attacker has a big "IRRELEVANT" marked on his body and leaves the area angrily - while the two protagonists chat.)

4) Continue the conversation until the attacker leaves, & escort them to a safe place if necessary. Bring them to a neutral area where they can recollect themselves; respect their wishes if they tell you they're ok and just want to go. (here the bystander lighty holds the veiled woman by the shoulders as a way to show support)

/end i.d.]

i know i told people not to comment on this if they weren’t muslim but i will absolutely accept this addition because it’s generally really useful info to know. this happened to me once and someone used a tactic like this and it worked wonderfully!

in my situation, it was a woman who pretended like she knew me when a man was verbally assaulting my friend and i - she approached us like we were old friends or relatives and asked “what took you so long? i’ve been waiting!”

and just like that, i had an out! the guy didn’t follow when she guided us away, and she stayed by my side the entire time until i had gotten to where i needed to go. the situation was de-escalated quickly and peacefully

i know a gut instinct to seeing bigotry or injustice is often confrontation, but it’s not always the safest response and tactics like this are extremely useful!!!

(however - just to note: if the situation looks potentially dangerous or on the verge of escalating to that level, call the police. there is a difference between uncomfortable comments on public transit vs the threat of verbal or physical assault - tactics like these work well in the first situation, but the second should be treated differently and with extreme caution. never hesitate to notify the proper authorities in situations where it looks like things are getting out of hand.)

The best part is the fact that out of the two of them Martha Stewart was the one who went to prison.

Wait…what?

also he has every right to make fun of kanye west considering snoop has had a successful career for about two decades including his own cookbook and appearing in movies whereas kanye is a flat earther who had to crowdfund another album because he ran out of money despite kim kardashian being with him, not having the money to produce another album should be the metric when you know you can tell a musician has failed somewhere in either money management or actually being a musician rather then a famous trainwreck

snoop dogg is a good man who loves cooking, nature, and supporting the dreams of young children in poverty. kanye west helped get trump elected.

seriously though check out his cookbook its beautiful

and filled with lgiht humor, legit cooking, and charming life stories

Whenever I think about snoop I remember that episode of cribs where he lived in an unusually modest house compared to everyone else on that show, spent the entire time with his young daughter hugging onto his leg and dragging her around as he walked. He even talked about how he didn’t want his kids to be musicians and that he just wants them to have a chance at a normal life / he doesn’t wish music career drama on anyone

Image

The dude is mega down to earth for having a networth of 135 million dollars and staying relevant for longer than some of the top charting musicians have been alive

he says he keeps a supply of poptarts in the house for his nieces/nephews and grandkids but admits theyre really for him and then goes on to discuss what selection of condiments your fridge should have to jazz up leftover takeout hes one of the most thoroughly human humans ive ever known of

Doesn’t he also coach football for kids, and stops smoking during the season to set a good example for the kids?

all these people going on about how Hozier is the peak representation of musical soft masculinity when Snoop has been out here rocking the smoothest braids and most hype manicures for decades

Image

Have you seen his Planet Earth voiceover video? It’s the best thing I’ve ever heard. Man knows nothing about otters

Plizzanet Earth is a joy. Here’s the playlist:

Why has no one ever told me about Plizzanet Earth oh my god

Snoop is legit; don’t come for him.

He also did an episode of Storybots and my kids adore the computer man. Which is wild to me. Cuz I remember gangster rap Snoop. And we love and support Snoop in this house.

Love him, great man

Seizure First Aid.

Learn it. Share it. Know it. Use it.

100% correct medical information on tumblr for once; also consider calling 911 if you don’t know how often the person has seizures and ESPECIALLY if the seizure has lasted 5 minutes or more (which is why the watch is critical)

I have epilepsy so making sure the word is out on how to help people who do have seizures means a lot to me.

I’m just super fucking bitter that once the flint water crisis got it’s 15 minutes of fame people stopped giving a shit. The water is still poisoned, people! Donations have plummeted and people have been forced back into drinking and bathing with the water! The medical effects of this are astounding, cases of legionnaires disease have skyrocketed, people are having seizures, people are having weird rashes break out over their body, people (including me!) are having their blood poisoned, and it’s not just lead! it’s coliform bacteria! it’s THMs! it’s all in the water and it gets into the bloodstream and breaks down blood vessels, causing bruising and petechiae and internal bleeding and no one gives a shit anymore and it’s only gotten worse like how many people are going to have to die until people realize this is still a problem

I would like to add that the people of Flint cannot sell their houses, because selling a house with leaded water is illegal. Additionally, households with children can’t stop paying for the water because living in a house without running water is cause for CPS to take their kids. Flint has been living this way for over two years.

The people of Flint are trapped by the legal system. And it is only the most high profile case out many cities with a similar problem.

Because the government has abandoned them, they are dependant on help from the outside. Donate here

Mari Copeny has taken the initiative to create a water filter. I’ve linked her GoFundMe that’s she using to raise money for it. She’s been able to raise $50k in donations but her next goal is $1 million

Water is a basic human right, it says a lot about governments that fail to provide that. Especially for a so called ‘first world country’

This is as of 4/26/21.

@one-time-i-dreamt signal boost?

Water is a basic human right, water is a basic human right, water is a basic human right

Anonymous asked:

Would it kill women to not assume that every single male is a sexual predator?

Yes actually. Yes it can literally kill us to not assume that men around us are sexual predators and take precautions accordingly.

Because it only takes one dangerous predatory guy to traumatize or even kill us and there’s a lot of them and none of you wear signs.

if I had a nickle for every time some stranger felt entitled to put his feelings above my actual safety, I’d be fucking rich

Women SHOULD assume every male could be a potential predator.

Every gentleman should understand this and have empathy and understanding when it comes to this topic. It’s unfortunate, but every male needs to prove they aren’t a predator, and do everything in their power to allow a woman to feel safe.

Just because someone is nice to you doesn’t mean you are safe. Predators slip in through the back door by being nice or even act like your knight in shining armor, so a woman will lower her defenses. I’m sure many woman reading this knows exactly what I am talking about, which is also unfortunate.

I hope every women assumes this and does everything in her power to protect herself. Your feelings and safety comes first.
