Help

I think my favorite part of the episode is the small, protective actions Eren took when Armin’s safety was threatened.

Armin went to go confront Bertolt and try to talk with him. When things were starting to take a bad turn, Eren was about to step in, but Jean stopped him.

Eren still has the impulses to protect Armin from the “bullies”, and it’s endearing to see.

Is it only me or is WIT making a thing out of Sasha protecting/saving Armin ?

(Episode 33)

(Episode 39)

If yes, I’d really like to know why…

Don’t take me wrong, I like it. ! It’s nice to see Sasha like that.

The incredible @varrix did it again. And I’m blown away and without words <3 Thank you for bringing Erwin and Levi from my French AU to life!

This is based on my ongoing collab fic Touche de Désir and all the details in this piece of art are perfect and I can’t stop looking at it.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!

OMG !! *__*

I need more Sasha dammit 😭😭

Regarding chapter 136 and the big debate over Levi’s panels

So! considering the various posts I’ve been reading ever since the chapter dropped and the different interpretations of levi’s words, i decided to clear a few things up taking into account the japanese raws.

who was levi referring to, when he spoke of armin’s eyes?

i’ve seen people claiming that he was referring to erwin only and that’s not correct; he was referring to erwin, hanji and (probably) the rest of the survey corps. why am i so sure of it, you ask? well :D it’s a matter of ✨grammar✨

LET’S DIVE INTO SOME JAPANESE (AND ITALIAN... AND FRENCH... AND SPANISH?) GRAMMAR, SHALL WE?

俺はー お前を選ばなかったことに悔いは無い

(romaji= ore wa omae wo erabanakatta kotoni kuiwanai)

エルヴィン = erwin

俺は= ore wa= I

お前を= omae wo= you (singular)

選ばなかった= erabanakatta= didn’t choose (“選ぶ” (erabu) is plain present of verb “to choose”, “選ばない” (erabanai) is plain negative present. Now we turn the verb from present to past, and to do so you take out the い (i) and add かった (katta), so 選ばない becomes 選ばなかった to make plain negative past. 選ばなかった= didn’t choose

ことに= kotoni= a bit difficult to explain. こと serves the purpose of noun-ifying a verb. に indicates that something is within something/on it

悔いは無い= kuiwanai= no regrets (悔い= regret, は= particle that remarks 悔い as the topic of the sentence, 無い= puts negation, so “regrets aren’t present/don’t exist”)

i’ve circled in red the word “omae”, which means you. in english, you only get one “you” for singular and plural, and you understand the subject based on the context. however, it’s not the same for japanese. in japanese, you get “omae”, which is “singular you”, and you get “omaera” which is “plural you”, which is what levi uses immediately in the next panel 👇

お前らと同じ目をしたあいつに未来を託したことに

(romaji= omaera to onaji me wo shita aitsu ni mirai wo takushita kotoni

お前らと= omaera to = you guys (plural)

同じ目をしたあいつに= onaji me wo shita aitsu ni = 同じ is same, 目 is eyes/look/stare, を is the particle that puts 目 as the topic , した is plain past of the verb する (to do), but in this case it is used to describe appearance and it’s a modifier for the noun あいつ, あいつに is “to that guy”

未来を= mirai wo= the future

託した= takushita= entrusted/left in the hands (託した is plain past of 託す)

ことに= kotoni, explained before*

Whole translation: Erwin, I do not regret not choosing you... I do not regret entrusting our future into the hands of someone with the same eyes as you guys.

Big thank you to @tundrainafrica for supervising my translation/grammar :’D

i would like to specify that i am a second-year japanese student, and the difference between omae vs omaera (and other pronouns) is something that you study at the beginning of your course, so i believe the official english release should have been more careful regarding the translation for these panels, since it created a lot of confusion apparently.

for native english speakers this whole singular vs plural you thing could be a bit confusing, so let me add some more explanation using my native language, italian!

“Erwin, non mi pento di non averti scelto... non mi pento di aver lasciato il futuro nelle mani di qualcuno che ha lo stesso sguardo che avevate voi.”

Averti scelto: choosing you, singular. If you were to make it plural, you’d use “avervi”. This is because averti is a word made up of “avere” (to have) and “te” (you, objective pronoun, singular). Avervi is made of “avere” plus “voi” (you, objective pronoun, plural). You can’t refer to a single person using “te”, you have to use “voi”. (fun fact! keep in mind that when speaking formally, you can use third person “lei” to refer to singular “you”, or if you’re from the south like me you can also use “voi” to refer to singular “you”, but it’s a matter of formality, and levi doesn’t speak formally.)

This same rule goes for other romance languages too, like spanish and french. In spanish, you have singular you which is “tú/vos”, and plural you which is “vosotros/vosotras/ustedes” (in order: referring to an all male group, to an all female group, used when speaking formally). since spanish, like italian, is a language where you can omit the pronoun, you need to look at the conjugation of the verbs to understand what we’re talking about, since every person has a different conjugation. in my italian example, i happened to omit the pronoun twice: both times i said “non mi pento” (i don’t regret), without saying the pronoun I. i know the sentence is spoken in first person thanks to the conjugation of the verb “pentirsi”, to regret, which goes “io mi pento”, that becomes “mi pento” by omitting the subject “io”. in spanish, it’d be “no me arrepiento”, conjugation in first person of the verb “arrepentirse”. In french, you can’t omit the pronouns, but the rule is the same! To refer to a single person (when speaking informally, if you’re speaking formally you can use vous but it’s levi we’re talking about here, no formalities) you use singular you, “tu”, to refer to more than one person, you use plural you, “vous”. “son regard est le même que le vôtre”, not “son regard est le même que le tien”, singular your vs plural your.

hope this cleared things up ✨

May the Force be with you, Captain Levi! 💪
