Do you think we'll ever get an answer to Zaladane and her connection to Polaris? I know it's an ancient contradictory plot point now but I would love an answer because I thought Zala was a great villain. In cases like this with an obscure plot point is it just better to go with the "simplest explanation is probably the right one" way of thinking and just assume she's Polaris' older maternal half-sister via her mother's marriage? Because that fits and explains just about everything.
I don’t think you can assume anything necessarily. Given that Zaladane originally came from another series, and the notion that she might be related to Polaris was very much a latter day notion thrown out by Chris Claremont after the characters had both been around for decades, and never entirely followed up on, I think the simplest solution at this point is that she was lying.
She claimed that she’s the “sister” of Lorna Dane, but her early history remained unrevealed till her death. Zaladane, also known as Zala Dane, is the Queen of the Sun People of the Savage land (?), half “sister” of the mutant Polaris (?), “daughter’ of Magneto (?). Honestly though, this makes no sense. I believe she was lying and glad she was forgotten. She was a plot device and nothing more.
They were never sisters and I agree, she was just there to move the plot forward. I don’t like plot devices. It may annoy or confuse the reader, causing a loss of the suspension of disbelief.
