Uncanny X-Men 1&2

Welcome to a new era. I know I’m a little late (plus working overtime didn’t give me time to participate in the community) but I thought I shouldn’t spoil those events too soon. Now I think it’s the time, since we’re 3 days away from #3.

Oh my. Where should I begin. First I’d like to thanks to @1979semifinalist, Rosenberg, and Brisson (and @marvelentertainment) for allowing Lorna to participate in the new (reboot) Uncanny X-Men. Honestly, I had high expectations for her future. I never doubted her inclusion in this book. So, thanks all of you once again.

Uncanny X-Men #1

How wonderful to see her in the introduction page. She’s among some of the original X-Men :)

In this scenario, Nightcrawler seems to teleport Lorna into the scene first and then X-23 (well, I’m going by the BAMF). Lorna was shown devastating the MLF upon her arrival. She came to (and did) save the day.

Yes, she right away grabbed a piece of the X-Jet with her magnetic power and hurled it toward the MLF. Buying time in order to do this…

“Wait…are you a “big kid”?” lol. What an amazing team-up. Lorna hurling Laura at the enemies was EPIC. I couldn’t get over this, I mean, what a dramatic entrance into combat. I was so excited to not only see this combo but to see Lorna and Laura interacting as well. Both had a good sense of humor. The Magnetic Fastball Special was intriguing. I’m sure some of you know the Fastball Special is a maneuver in which Colossus launches Wolverine at an enemy. Two males and now two females. I can gladly say that Lorna and Laura are the first two females to display the Fastball Special.

Uncanny X-Men #2

I know what you thinking, lol.

Here they are in their locker room. They are getting ready for a mission. Again, I know what you’re thinking but in my perspective, they were already dressed up before entering the locker room. As we can see they are suiting up and waiting for Jean’s command. That’s my perspective but if you want an actual answer, you gotta get it from the writers. I just don’t think they were all in the same room getting dressed. It would be silly knowing Lorna wouldn’t do that :)

Something abnormal was happening and so Jean gathers the X-Men and divided them into two teams, A and B, to go into two different missions. Lorna was in Team-B with Nightcrawler, Jubilee, Psylocke, Storm, and Cannonball. What a badass squad.

One thing I’d like to point out is Lorna’s force-fields. I’m trying to remember when was the last time she was using a force-field just like her father. I know her magnetic field manipulation allows her to create force-fields, like an electrical energy form surrounding her. Lorna was shown with many different force-fields but I just don’t remember the bubble one. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see Lorna creating force-fields, which are probably stronger than those of her father. Don’t forget Lorna also shares a link to the earth’s electromagnetic field, drawing strength from it and being granted a form of immortality. You get the picture :)

Nightcrawler teleported the squad closer to the scene and what they discovered was unexpected.

Multiple Man was multiplying himself into thousands for some reason. It’s seem as soon as they arrived at the scene, Lorna took over from that moment on (as we can see Storm was basically mute and wasn’t even bothering to ask what’s going on; only telling Madrox what he’s doing) as she was the only one who knows Madrox better than anyone else. Polaris and Madrox knew each other for a very long time and were teammates in various incarnations. Jamie loves Lorna, he likes Lorna (I can assure you this in another post).

Suddenly and unexpectedly Multiple Man started acting out where the squad knew what they needed to do without any command.

How wonderful to see Lorna interacting with more characters. This time with Psylocke, where Polaris was commanding her to plant what Betsy stated in Madrox’s mind. That’s what I call a leader despite Jean not giving her the co-leadership (or Storm) card. At least I can give her the credit for stepping up like one. They needed to find the real Madrox in order to stop the madness. I literally agree with Cannonball. How did Storm expect them to find the real Madrox when there are thousands of them? Then she had a second thought. I thought that was silly.

In the end, all the X-Men were defeated, but I’m sure it won’t be for long :)

I can only imagine Cannonball saying they were “overwhelming” due to the fact that there were so many of Madrox. It seems the more they defeat them, the more they come. The fact that there were thousands of them was impossible to defeat or find the real Madrox. Now that’s being overwhelmed, I guess?

I was very happy to see Polaris as part of the X-Men team in Uncanny 1&2. From the locker room scene where everyone was suiting up together, to the battles they faced together, it was nice to see her as an X-Man. I especially liked the callback to Colossus/Wolverine Fastball move with her and X-23. I’m not quite sure what is going on with Multiple Man, but where did he get all these new powers? It’s as if he absorbed the abilities of… multiple… other mutants and now has their powers. Including Toad’s tongue, for some reason. Whatever it is, however he got them, he (they) was too much for the collective might of the team in issue #2. Even as Bishop, Jean, X-23, et. all were successfully battling dinosaurs, Madrox took down Polaris, Storm, and the rest. A feat which shouldn’t be possible for Jamie. From the panels of #3 that are already out there, tho, his victory will be short-lived, and I’m sure that Lorna will be PISSED :)

Uncanny X-Men #3

Speaking of pissed, it looks like everyone is pissed in this panel below…

…and “overwhelmed”. Is that not what Cannonball said? Nevertheless, everyone is back on their feet and the battle with Multiple Man continues to escalate. An unexplained occurrence that baffled everyone! They still can’t find the solution to stop him or how to find the real Madrox or why he’s multiplying himself by thousands and gaining super powers. Psylocke tried everything she can but there were too many of them… too much confusion. She needed to find the real mind in order to shut it down.

Finally Jean arrived to the scene and found a solution to deal with Madrox’s duplication. She held Psylocke’s hand, giving her a boost so she can find Jamie. Seeing Lorna in the same panel with Jean and Psylocke means a whole bunch to me. That feels new and different and if I’m right, original.

Jean has determined that none of the MM copies are the real Madrox. Jean ordered the rest of the X-Men team to cover her and Psylocke while Jean boosts Psylocke’s powers in order for her to penetrate the mind of Multiple Man’s copies. The X-Men were buying them time to work it out. I love the fact that Polaris participated in this cover up.

Breaking through confusion, she at last manages to shut down Madrox’s mind. Together they ended the insanity.

Funny how Jean was able to determine that the source of all this was directly beneath their location. Everyone in the panel above looking at Jean felt… stupid. Poor Jamie, he’s been below them the whole time, lol. After this panel, everyone seemed to disappear (It seems like they melted away through the open doorway before our very eyes, lol), except Polaris. She continued having an extra panel with Jean, Iceman, Laura and Bishop where they uncover a bunker below right where they were battling the Jamie Madrox copies.

Allow me to say how delightful it is seeing Lorna being useful. They come to a locked door which Lorna destroyed easily with her magnetic powers and it reveals that the real Madrox is being held against his will. She rescued Madrox. I presume she loosens those chains around him.

Once they rescue him, Jean and her team were heading to the mansion. There they faced Legion outside the mansion. And out of nowhere…

a very strange-looking Magneto, Blob, Angel and Omega Red appeared as the Horsemen of wellness and bounty. Magneto told them that they were here to carry out the masters will as the Horsemen of peace (and then BOOM!) while blowing up the institute as their first act.

The X-mansion was destroyed for the third or fourth time, lol. This is certainly a revelation that left me desperately waiting for the next issue to come around.

Uncanny X-Men #3 is an interesting issue. This comic is packed with a lot of action and story developments, yet, it left me yearning for more. I was just hoping Magneto didn’t kill the X-Men, especially his daughter, but she and a few of the crew weren’t there when that occurred but I can only imagine they were there nonetheless. Magneto explained they want to stop the war but why do they want to destroy the X-Men? I guess we’ll find out.

Uncanny X-Men #4

OH MY GOD, EVERYONE IS DEAD!!

Well, not quite, lol. While Armor was protecting them from the explosion, Jean and Psylocke created an illusion of their death. BTW, Lorna is right behind Psylocke :)

Thankfully we have a mutant called, Hisako, aka Armor, who can create and generate an enormously strong and impenetrable psionic exoskeleton body armor. It grants her superhuman strength, stamina, endurance, durability etc. The body armor is depicted as enveloping her completely and protects her (as well as other individuals) from tremendously strong and powerful attacks. Thanks to Armor’s protective powers the X-men are unharmed and thanks to Jean and Psylocke they are now unseen

Look at this team. Just look at them. I wanted to post this without the bubbles interfering.

It has been decided that 2 teams are going out to deal with the events that are still happening around the world. So they’re on their way to save the world, like always.

This is where Polaris, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Storm, Jubilee Cannonball arrived on scene. Polaris, who is the only mutant (aside from her father) with the ability of Magnetism, was detecting her father’s overwhelming presence; a powerful movement of the electromagnetic field. Storm asked because no one more than Lorna can detect magnetic fields. Magnetoreception (also magnetoception) is a sense which allows an organism to detect a magnetic field to perceive direction, altitude or location. Polaris was in the right location. I literally love this panel. “People” still think all she can do is “move” metal from A to point B and she’s way WAY more than that. One look at her father you surely know the definition when it comes to Polaris :)

They actually arrived in a country that is about to erupt in civil war. Uh-Oh

The fact that Betsy mentioned Magneto as Lorna’s dad was even nice to see them acknowledging their relation. Proof that @marvelentertainment acknowledges Lorna as Magneto’s only daughter :)

That statue won’t last long, lol. Magneto took the soldiers guns and molded them into a giant statue of X-Man. Something that Lorna can also do (Uncanny X-Men #443 (2004).

Once the villagers attacked the soldiers, the X-Men start to realize they cannot stop this without hurting anyone so they fall back.

Nightcrawler teleported Psylocke and Jubilee away because the villagers and soldiers wouldn’t stop fighting each other. They needed to stop this somehow but…

Storm cracks lightning near the fight between the soldiers and the villagers. If her intention was to scare them away from fighting, then, she didn’t accomplish anything. I can’t quite tell if Polaris and Storm were doing some kind of team-up move as we can see in the above panel. But I don’t think they were since Storm’s lightning didn’t look so almighty. No one felt fear over that little lightning, lol.

I hope you enjoyed this issue because I definitely enjoyed this myself. We now have some answers as to what’s going on but the actual answer won’t be given until issue #9 or 10. Polaris commenting on Magneto’s magnetic field was awesome. It was a nice moment to have that aspect of her powers acknowledged :)

Uncanny X-Men #5

Speaking of moments, we are now entering to the best issue of them all :)

This issue starts by showing us the battle between the villagers and the soldiers (as you can see the lightning didn’t scare them off). The X-Men are still on scene and are making a futile attempt to keep them from killing each other.

The splash below drew by RB Silva is awesome. This scene has some nice combinations of action and power. This can be a really nice poster but instead it ended up being a second print cover.

Everyone in this scene are getting affected by everyone’s power. The combat scene with Magneto though? Storm’s probably the only one having difficulty. I’m sure Storm has had experience knowing that her lightning against Magneto (or Polaris) doesn’t work. Her continuing attack on Magneto with lightning was a cataclysmic failure. Umm… Storm, sweetie… It doesn’t work.

I must admit that Lorna in this panel looked beautiful. I also have to admit that whenever Storm wants to know something about Magneto she gotta go straight to Lorna to ask, lol. Well, since she’s the daughter of Magneto and was working with him recently in X-Men Blue so they think Lorna has all the answers. I think Lorna was more of a leader than anyone else, IMO. But this is what I don’t get. In the panel above, Storm attacked Magneto and saw she couldn’t do anything to him and went up to Lorna (panel below) to ask what Magneto was doing? REALLY? Lol. She was just there, lol.

Polaris takes note that Magneto and Angel have done nothing but watch. Lorna asks her father what he was doing and what was his plan. This interaction here was everything to the fanbase.

Here is the moment that I’m sure everyone was waiting for. Father vs Daughter. I mean, it’s hard not to make these scenes enjoyable. Especially where Lorna and Erik finally interacted in this series. And sure enough, this is where we get some of the comic’s best scenes. The writers make time for some nice character moments… mostly involving Polaris and Psylocke. Lorna facing off against her father and Betsy against Angel. At this point, war is inevitable.

With the fight continuing to rage Lorna confronts her father about his hand in it, then demands the whereabouts of X-Man. No answer forthcoming, she handles the situation pretty hard-core. It’s moments like these that make me wish we could see the father-daughter more often :)

I LOOOVE when Lorna lifted up and crushed the X-Man effigy with her magnetic power and threw it to the ground, which is downright badass. This angers her father and he threatens Lorna with a fight. It was so satisfying seeing Lorna rebelling against her father, and simultaneously hilarious with the “OOPS” :)

And though there was comment of wavering from Lorna I think she handled herself admirably under the circumstances.

Magneto’s power is seemingly enhanced because Polaris has already proven to be the more powerful, so he must be getting backup power from somewhere. I’ve noticed Magneto holds off the combined powers Polaris and Storm (?) with the greatest of ease. I guess Nate is supplying him. From the look of this panel, it looks like Storm doesn’t really need to be there. She’s not even attacking the correct target. For some reason her lightning is hitting the ground. I don’t know what the hell Storm was doing or thinking or if she is mentally messed up. Don’t know if it’s because she started to realize that (for the hundredth time) lightning doesn’t do anything to Magneto. It will make him stronger instead. Storm is like a battery pack for both Magneto and Polaris. I thought it was pointless having her there. Lorna got this and she was fine since Storm wasn’t really helping. I thought she just wanted to be in the big scene, lol, but Lorna can take care of herself. I don’t think Storm knows how powerful Lorna has become.

What really bothers me is Magneto blindly following Nate. Magneto is not a type of person (character) to follow anyone but himself. He’s a leader and not a follower. So I’m pretty sure he might be mind controlled and his daughter probably doesn’t know it.

We get some great interaction between Lorna and Erik as father and daughter. I truly enjoyed the development. This was probably the strongest issue in the series so far. Haters can stay hating because Lorna was the first to have a big moment from this particular group. This comic is at least my personal favorite issue of the relaunched Uncanny X-Men Disassembled. I at lease can say that Polaris and Psylocke each get moments to shine and it’s awesome :)

Uncanny X-Men #6

The reason I posted this panel was because I want to point out few things.

We already know Psylocke yanked Angel from Nate’s control turning him into Archangel and he wasn’t happy about it. But for some reason he attacked Magneto although this went unsuccessful because of course Magneto can control metal.

I know there was a question mark stamp in this panel. An unexplained occurrence that baffled everyone including me. Lorna floating in the air while watching Archangel fighting her father and not saying anything or demonstrating any sign of concern was a little weird. I thought Jubilee’s bubbles were meant to be for Lorna and somehow the letterer mistook what was supposed to happen here.

On second thought, maybe the reason for Lorna not showing any concern was due to the fact that she knows her father is powerful enough to handle Archangel given that his wings are made of metal and metal is Magneto’s (and her) thing. I’m gonna go with that she knew her father wouldn’t be easy to defeat because Polaris and Storm wavered while in combat with him. In this case, Angel was a piece of metal to him :)

Magneto lectured Psylocke about taking away Angel’s peace and Archangel informed her that Magneto was right!

At this point, Psylocke is too emotionally involved and emotionally drained for what she did to Warren.

They simply ask Archangel if he can help them find X-Man while the other team of X-Men arrived at the aftermath of the battle.

No explanation on how Archangel decided but apparently he showed the X-Men where X-Man was located.

The combined team arrived at Nate’s temple.

And soon were face to face with Nate Grey. This panel below can be a nice poster as well :)

At first Jean wanted to talk to Nate about why all this war even though she agreed with Nate that the world is terrible. Nate already knew why they were here and warned them about their attack.

But it didn’t matter because they weren’t going to succeed.

The panel above also ended up being a second print cover.

As we can see X-Man dealt with them easily.

When the Young X-Men showed up, the X-Men were already captured and helpeless but they take no action against Nate.

At the end the Young X-Men ended up in limbo with Nate.

I’m skipping Uncanny X-Men #7 because (Lorna) the old X-Men doesn’t show up at all. The next issue is all about the young X-Men and Nate fighting in limbo. I was in fact so disappointed by the writers excluding all the old X-Men.

Uncanny X-Men #8

Unable to reason with Magneto, Omega Red or Blob, the X-Men combine forces to take them down.

Lorna takes out Omega Red in a very nice scene. Despite her being in one panel but it was nice to see her get some action and dialogue. Obviously this was better than last issue.

For those wondering if she was able to knock down Omega Red on her own here is a panel demonstrating the fact that she did :)

I can gladly say that Lorna was only absent in Issue #7 and came back in Issue #8 but so does all the X-team. We are getting closer to see what’s going to happen.

Uncanny X-Men #9

We open with Nate now in control of Legion’s body. Now the X-Men have to face TWO Omega-Level Mutants! YIKES. Nate is just crazy now, with powers that allow him to do anything he wants. Pretty much a God if you ask me.

Nate or Legion or Nate-Legion, lol, oh better yet, X-Legion thought he killed the real Jamie but thank God the real one was in a bar drinking. How silly, lol. But to be fair, Jamie did save the day. Otherwise we were going to see the insane duplication all over again.

After Nate killed the copy of MM, he suddenly summons his Horsemen and made them even more powerful than they were. Unfortunately, Storm was subverted to the other side as Archangel replacement whose mind X-Man took over, possessing her, making her his puppet as one of his Four Horsemen. I guess the real “God” here was X-Man despite the outcome of the last issue #10.

Nate has completely lost patience with the X-Men. There were tons of mutants flying around all over the place throughout this issue, lol.

Lets take a moment and examine the new scenario from these character’s perspectives… Polaris in particular. In issue #8, we saw Polaris taking down Omega Red easily. You may wonder why or how Omega Red was taken possession to a few X-Men while evidently Polaris was able to take him down all on her own. As I mentioned previously, X-Legion granted his Horsemen greater stability to take on the X-Team. The Horsemen may be outnumbered, but they are certainly overpowered.

Though Omega didn’t last long holding them down as we can see on the next page; Polaris and the rest were free.

I can image how most of you (especially trolls) reacted to the panel above ^ because I also was like WTF? Seeing Magneto and Storm going toward Lorna was to feel inspired, excited and enthusiastic just to see her fighting both of them.

Although it did not turnout the way I (or we) expected.

It was the daughter vs father and yes, Magneto had the upper hand because X-Legion supplies him with more power. Allowing him to be stronger than he actually is. We all know Polaris is more powerful and can keep up with Magneto.

Jean communicated with the others telepathy asking for assistance. The panel below is such a beautiful panel to see. I see the Cuckoos.

While she was communicating with the rest of the X-team, the X-men continued fighting X-Legion on their own and Magneto, Blob, Omega Red and Storm get trapped in a small Armor ball.

But the Horsemen broke free and they’re back with master X-Legion. They were facing toward the X-Men and all of a sudden…

X-Legion was trying to destroy the X-Men with a flood. Although the X-Men never stopped pursuing him with the intent to stop him, but…

X-Legion is too powerful that nothing can affect or stop him. I mean, how can they defeat Nate and Legion? There are two Godlike mutants in one body, which open the doors to their limitless potential.

Wow! Issue #9 delivers big time. We finally seem to be moving out of introduction and into the story with this issue. We are finally one issue away and here I am hoping to see how this will end.

Uncanny X-men #10

Finally we’re almost getting to the end of the road and have reached a boiling point and every mutant is in trouble. We have one full page of the X-Men fighting for their causes and beliefs. Wow! This can be another amazing poster.

Here we find the X-Men in their last ditch attempt in stopping Nate from remaking the world in his image.

As I mentioned previously, Lorna can take care of herself and Storm didn’t need to be in the scene where Lorna was facing her father in round 1. I guess they just threw in Storm so she can have an extra panel because Lorna never wavered from her intention. Lorna knew her father would not waver in his decision but Storm did not bother to ask her, lol. How delightful is to see the Cuckoos in the same panel with Lorna. All I can think of is… The Gifted :)

Lorna: “Let us hope you’re half as capable as you think you are” In other words… he thinks he’s all powerful but she actually is. I love it :) Let me remind you that Magneto’s powers are already enhanced here…not once… but twice.

After having all of the telepaths combine their powers to attack and separate X-Legion and battle between Jean and Nate in his mind, Nate became himself again and Legion was out. Nate lost his Horsemen and now all of the mutants can focus on their real target and stop him from changing the world and destroying humanity.

Though they failed to stop him and in the blink of an eye…

everything perished and as we know, it impacted the rest of the Marvel universe. The end.

Oh My God.

While we are now heading into Age of X-Man, Uncanny has really gotten me excited for that event. I highly recommend this book to any x-fan and to anyone who wants to get into the X-Men. I also want to once again thank the writers @1979semifinalist , Rosenberg, and Brisson. They were amazing :)

I don’t know where you guys are going after this but I’m definitely going to Age of X-Man: Prisoner-X. The reason is obvious ;) I’m only reading this book because of Lorna Dane. This is where she appears next and can’t wait to read this and see how she will play in Prisoner-X event. Age of X-Man is a group of six, five-issue, miniseries. Those events are about what would happen if the X-Men succeeded. Marvel Comics is using one of those events as the kickoff point for an X-Men alternate-universe story with a twist. Let’s see what this unfamiliar writer has in store for us :)
