when i was on ABD (aged, blind, and disabled benefits – the only cash aid available to disabled people while we’re applying for SSI, a monthly $197) literally all money you get can be deducted from these benefits. this means that if someone sees you digging through the trash for food and gives you $20 the government will only pay you $177 that month. if you don’t report that $20 it’s welfare fraud

astute readers might realise that there’s no way anyone in the country can be expected to live off of $197 a month, and that that would have to be supplemented by another source of income. and if that money is going to disappear as soon as that other source of income hits $197, it might as well not exist. you’re right!

when i was on ABD i had a patreon running that brought in a steady $13 a month. the person in charge of my case rounded up the amount of money i was getting to $15. i was penalised by $15 for making $13.

This is how the government keeps disabled people homeless. We aren’t seen as productive and profitable to society, so we’re slowly weeded our and killed this way. Our country is and has been enacting nothing short of a genocide on disabled people.

Welfare fraud does exist, though, and you know who commits the most of it? Welfare employees.

Seriously. A caseworker in my office was busted for stealing over $100,000 by making cash issuances onto the EBT card of a dead man. This happened less than a month after I started working there.

If you feel unsafe about voting in person (because, y’know, we’re in the middle of a goddam pandemic) but now fear the USPS will be unable to deliver a “mail-in” ballot in a timely fashion….

1. Request a mail-in ballot.

2. Do not mail it.

3. Google your supervisor of elections to see where you can drop off your mail-in ballot. It’s usually NOT THE POLLING PLACE.

All states allow this! Here is what you’re accomplishing by doing this:

1. Your ballot gets in on time no matter what happens to the USPS.

2. You don’t have to worry about standing in long lines and risking infection. You’re just stopping by to drop it off.

3. You voted! Hooray! I have no doubt Trump and his supporters are doing to try to call into question the legitimacy of mail-in voting (which is more enthusiastically embraced by Democratic supporters, especially now.)

Also, when you drop it off, find out how to track it online to make sure it is verified. California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have systems that can track your ballot just like tracking a package from Amazon.

All CA vote centers (which are open for weeks to a month before election day) have ballot drop-off boxes too! Many government buildings have them as well, so there’s no need to wait until election day when it’s crowded to drop them off. The list of drop-off sites is always posted on each county’s voter info website.

This is important! This election is crucial! Get out and vote! We! Cannot! Afford! To! Get! Complacent! This year, every vote matters!

with adhd, the easiest way to make a goal feel impossible is telling yourself you will do x thing every day from now on no matter what.

good news: this also works for obsessive habits you want to break. nothing makes you want to procrastinate on using social media more than giving yourself a specific goal about how to use it.

you could tell yourself to post 10 times or like thirty posts or use x feature every day or something. maube set a timer, and force yourself to not leave the app until 20 minutes have passed. you will be desperate to do anything else after that.

the negative brain patterns you have programmed into the 'i must do this' categories in your life can be hacked into the things you want to stop doing. you have that power. you've learned the techniques already, now you can apply them to the things you want to use them on

Larry Nassar abused over 150 women, including Gabby Douglas, Simone Biles, and Aly Raisman. Judge Rosemarie made sure this predator pays the price for each and every one of them. Hella props to this badass judge. Judges around the world need to take notes.

the idea that you HAVE to cut your hair to be butch is an extremely white one. butches of color don’t have to divorce themselves from their culture or the importance of their hair to their personhood in order to b validly butch.

the idea that long hair = womanly/feminine is very white. there are so many cultures of color where long hair is not gendered. there are cultural and religious traditions where cutting hair is not common, if not outright discouraged. there are hairstyles that are revered or culturally important that wouldn’t be possible with short hair. there’s a litany of meaningfulness in hair. everyone has different relationships with their hair, and that’s an individual, personal relationship that cannot be defined by anyone else.

like the majority of Black lesbians i know, especially those who ID as butch or studs, don’t have short hair. braids, locs, fros, slicked back ponytails, etc. are very common. and i would truly pity the fool who tried to tell them they aren’t being properly butch.

like... ppl rlly need to be mindful of the cultural implications of what they consider to be “universal” or essential attributes to an identity. race and culture are always intertwined with other identities. if you’re only looking at a white perspective, you are leaving so many ppl out.

Jorge Gonzalez, suffered a broken neck, and a compressed spine at the hands of 3 sheriff deputies in Texas. He couldn’t even hold his head up for this mugshot…so they had to hold it up for him. They actually thought the mugshot was more important than a hospital visit.

After a deputy tripped him he hit his face hard and went unconscious. They tased him couple of times “to wake him up”.

He was left paralyzed neck down, went through a series of surgeries, and was in ICU on the ventilator for over a month after the arrest.

According to the hospital he went over 26 hours in Hidalgo County jail without necessary medical attention that could have saved his life.

“Deputies advised Gonzalez he was being placed under arrest for violating the emergency management plan, according to the complaint. He was also informed he was going to be charged with public intoxication.”

These cops beat a man to death because he was outside.

There are inconsistencies in the report and they fail to provide details about how he allegedly resisted arrest. Nevermind that nothing in this report - not a shelter-in-place violation, not drinking, not resisting arrest - justify multiple people ganging up on one person, breaking his neck, and failing to obtain medical care.

This man died because police are the institutionalization of prejudice and brutality, and this country requires you have papers to be treated like a human and insurance to live.

They didn’t even take him to the hospital in an ambulance.
